  1. I want that Johnny Dangerously poster. That makes me weird, right? LOL!
  2. Don't worry. After the Supreme Court ruling, every state will impose an internet sales tax eventually.
  3. Michigan. With plane tickets, lodging, food, etc., for 2-3 people (Id go with my family) it gets pretty damn pricey. Cost me almost 2 grand to go to C2E2 a couple of years ago, and I drove my car!
  4. No need for any of that. People will be buying and selling fractional shares of the asset based upon the underlying value of the asset. It precludes having to liquidate it, which is the point.
  5. Spend $5-7k on a trip to San Diego? Or spend $5-$7K on art?
  6. Can you erase Laura Croft? Because that WW is killer, and I am not a fan for Tomb raider or that LC. Finch is so much better as an artist right now that he was 12 years ago.
  7. Wow. It’s the literal first appearance of the team.
  8. Wow! Beautiful. I just started re-reading Simonson's Thor run, and the amount of plot elements from that run that were used in the Thor films, particularly for Thor: Ragnaraock, is quite telling.
  9. The simple way to hand this is to say: "I will hold these for a week, and unless you send me a $_____ deposit, I am opening them back up for anyone to buy." The deposit can be a down payment on the final sales price, if he chooses to buy them. But, you can't be expected to hold them indefinitely. At the same time, you should let me him know that, and under what conditions you are willing to hold them.
  10. As I pointed out in an earlier post, the designation that they are "stolen" was entirely Albert's. Was there a police report filed? Was there a criminal investigation? Or was this merely a sales dispute, and Albert was playing hardball? For all we know, Albert went through a divorce, and his ex-wife grabbed these three pages at random from his stash and this sale is part of the property settlement. We know nothing of the details of the "theft." By listing them as "stolen" on his site, he made it hard for the person who had them to sell to a third party. So, maybe he and the "thief" reached an arrangement whereby they would be sold at auction and the proceeds split. (Which suggests that they were not actually stolen, but there is a dispute about ownership). Until they are sold, Albert will not change the "stolen" designation. But, he is letting it be known through intermediaries (see this thread) that there is no cloud on the title. ADDING: Another possibility is that Albert filed an insurance claim on these items, and now that they are recovered, he has made an arrangement with the insurance company to sell them in order to reimburse them for the insurance pay out.
  11. Damn! I am definitely gong to check out the next Hake's auction. Anyone think the person who ended up with the Greg Hildebrandt painted Bettie Page cover got a deal? https://hakes.com/Auction/ItemDetail/223321/BETTIE-PAGE-1-FRAMED-COMIC-BOOK-COVER-PAINTING-ORIGINAL-ART-BY-GREG-HILDEBRANDT Someone also got a 70's Kirby Cap page (with Cap in costume) for under $4K. https://hakes.com/Auction/ItemDetail/221868/JACK-KIRBY-CAPTAIN-AMERICA-ANNUAL-4-COMIC-BOOK-PAGE-ORIGINAL-ART And, holy Hell, a really nice Aparo Batman title page (from the flagship "Batman," title, no less) for under $1400! https://hakes.com/Auction/ItemDetail/221885/BATMAN-434-COMIC-BOOK-PAGE-ORIGINAL-ART-BY-JIM-APARO

  13. Bought it from where? I did not see where this cover was up for sale?
  14. Fair enough. I actually got started on Doctor Strange at the time precisely because Paul Smith was doing the art. And I think the first Smith issue was #56. Like you, I was a huge Paul Smith fan from his X-Men work.
  15. For any artist other than Frazetta, that might be an issue. But, I am not sure this will be.
  16. Are there any (the Marvel version) Team America fans out there? If there are, here is your grail! https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/mike-zeck-and-john-beatty-captain-america-269-cover-original-art-marvel-1982-/a/7189-92229.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515
  17. Since you're reading through this thread, Gene, I wondered if this Paul Smith Doctor Strange #56 page activates your nostalgia Spidey-senses like it does mine. I know you and I have right about the same nostalgia era. https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/paul-smith-and-terry-austin-doctor-strange-56-page-16-original-art-marvel-1982-/a/7189-92200.s?ic4=GalleryView-ShortDescription-071515
  18. If the two parties involved are the only ones fighting over title, then it matters not if they have agreed on a settlement.
  19. Well, I guess that means one less deep pocketed bidder for it. For those wondering:
  20. The Tales of Suspense #60 Kirby Cap Title splash is absolutely gorgeous. https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/jack-kirby-and-chic-stone-tales-of-suspense-60-splash-page-1-captain-america-original-art-marvel-1964-/a/7189-92100.s?ic4=GalleryView-ShortDescription-071515
  21. The own of the Watchmen cover dangled it on the Facebook message boards first, before eventually putting it up at Heritage, That sold for about $40K a several years ago, I think. So it will be interesting to see where it ends up.
  22. It seems to me that Albert's listing of the items as "stolen" may have been a matter of dispute. And the person who possesses them, did not agree with Albert on that point. Thus, there was a sales dispute that resulted in litigation. Their sale is part of a settlement the parties may have reached. This is just speculation, of course. But if there was absolutely no cloud on the title of the pages, then there would be no legal impediment to Albert saying something about it publicly.
  23. They are engaged in a legal settlement. The value these bring in will help determine damages.
  24. If you want art verified, the grading companies should hire notary publics for that, rather than some schlub or employee. That's official. They check the ID of the signatory (or artists) and notarize the sketch or signature. This is recognized as sowrn testimony in Court (via and affidavit). This story above just makes me even less inclined to trust any "verified" signatures. And, frankly, I don't much care. In fact, if I saw a notarized signature of an artist (with a date confirming he was at a specific location, at a specific date), I'd trust it over a grading company.
