Action Comics #1 Cover OA...still exists?!?
PhilipB2k17 replied to PhilipB2k17's topic in Original Comic Art
Ummm...I listed my evidence. The interior OA exists, etc. Your evidence is that it hasn’t surfaced yet. The absence of evidence isn’t evidence of absence.- 232 replies

Why would an image of an unused cover from that era still exist?- 232 replies

This was an unused cover. Maybe that’s part of why Stan rejected it?- 232 replies

Action Comics #1 Cover OA...still exists?!?
PhilipB2k17 replied to PhilipB2k17's topic in Original Comic Art
Could have been add-on to fit the page. Like they added the blurb. There have been other OA with stats by artists added to widen the image I think you’re missing the point, though. The actual original Ditko cover survived, otherwise they couldn’t have reprinted it in the 80’s or used it as a variant cover. Whether the one I posted is it, or not, is beside the point. It exists.- 232 replies

Yes. But we know that people like Jerry Robinson and Joe Simon were saving some of them already. I just have a suspicion that they are out there still.- 232 replies

Action Comics #1 Cover OA...still exists?!?

LOL! That description is nuts. Here's my favorite part: "Along with standard payment methods, we will be accepting cryptocurrency for this lot at the request of our consignor. The following cryptocurrencies will be accepted at their spot value at the time of payment: BTC, ETH, XRP, BCH, LTC, NEO, DASH, IOTA,& EOS. Others may be accepted if arranged before the closing date." Perfect.- 232 replies

Action Comics #1 Cover OA...still exists?!?
PhilipB2k17 replied to PhilipB2k17's topic in Original Comic Art
The unused Ditko cover to AF #15 was used as a variant cover for ASM #700. http://comicbook.com/blog/2013/01/04/amazing-spider-man-700-ditko-variant-heading-back-to-comic-stores/ And Sean Howe posted a photo of the OA online. Now...the question is...what would THIS sell for?- 232 replies

A page by Ron Lim from the Silver Surfer storyline introducing the Infinity Gauntlet is on sale at ComicLink and getting some nice action. Already the bid is up over $4K at the time I posted this. (Asking price is $7500). It's a really nice panel page. http://www.comiclink.com/itemdetail.asp?back=%2Fsection.asp%3F_SORT%3DYES%26id%3D1398%26f1%3DListDate%26ODire1%3DDESC%26f2%3Di.Publisher%26ODire2%3DDESC%26f3%3Di.IssueNumber%2C%2Bi.Genre%26ODire3%3DASC%26pg%3D2&id=1239839

Action Comics #1 Cover OA...still exists?!?
PhilipB2k17 replied to PhilipB2k17's topic in Original Comic Art
A high grade Mantle Rookie card just sold for $2.8 Million at auction. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/23254147/1952-mickey-mantle-baseball-card-topps-sells-record-288m?platform=amp&__twitter_impression=true This despite the baseball card market cratering. Bodes well, possibly, for the transcendent pieces in our hobby, I think. And I have a hunch many of the Marvel Silver Age covers are out there somewhere. We know that Ditko’s Original unused AF 15 Cover survived. So why wouldn’t the actual published cover? Why would Marvel tell the printers to return the interiors but not the covers? We know artists were already saving key covers from the Golden Age, so why would no one have an interest in saving these as well? I think they’re out there- 232 replies

Action Comics #1 Cover OA...still exists?!?
PhilipB2k17 replied to PhilipB2k17's topic in Original Comic Art
I disagree with Gene on one point. I think Hulk 181 Cover is more likely not to break out of the narrow hobby confines than Action 1 Cover. If Action 1 Cover were “discovered” tomorrow it would be a pretty big media deal. Just the record sale of Action 1 got a ton of media coverage. And whenever someone finds an Action 1 or TEC 27 it gets a bit of media coverage. Action #1 would transcend the hobby. Hulk 181 won’t.- 232 replies

Action Comics #1 Cover OA...still exists?!?
PhilipB2k17 replied to PhilipB2k17's topic in Original Comic Art
There’s an argument now percolating in comic collectors circles that a comparable TEC 27 would now fetch more than Action #1. It’s not been tested yet.- 232 replies

Action Comics #1 Cover OA...still exists?!?
PhilipB2k17 replied to PhilipB2k17's topic in Original Comic Art
I think most of those key Marvel Silver Age covers still exist somewhere. If so, Cover to AF #15 would be it. I’ve heard the Cap #1 Cover rumor too. If so, that might be it. (Who has it? Joe Simon’s family?) But I’m fairly confident that many of the Marvel Silver age covers still exists. We know the complete interior art from #AF 15 & TTA 27 exists. We know at least some from JOM 83 and TOS 39 exists. FF #1? Hulk #1? I don’t know. If the interior art exists, that’s strong evidence the covers do too. Someone thought they were important enough to preserve. The question is, where are the covers, which is the subject of a whole ‘nother thread.- 232 replies

Action Comics #1 Cover OA...still exists?!?
PhilipB2k17 replied to PhilipB2k17's topic in Original Comic Art
If someone is willing to pay $3.5 Million for one of the two 9.0 Action #1 comic copies, I’d think the OA for the cover would fetch at least that. It’s a cultural artifact that goes beyond comic collecting, and OA collecting.- 232 replies

New podcast/video from Felix Comic Art (UPDATED 1/3/17!)
PhilipB2k17 replied to Nexus's topic in Original Comic Art
My take: He started out scamming people, and only later on decided he would "give away" things, probably because he got busted in the OA scam. This ad supplies evidence. He was taking trade (which is indeed fraud) but also selling pieces. -

My philosophy is to buy what I like, for a price I can afford. Mid I buy directly from an artist, I don’t haggle. I feel better about paying them directly. I have asked about a few NFS pieces on CAF. They were genuinely not for sale. Didn’t even get the “make me a crazy offer and I might consider it.” I’ve had a couple of inquiries about one of my CAF pieces, that I politely declined to sell. I am not an art flipper.
