  1. Your description states your centerfold is detached. I'm assuming there are no staple holes for that one staple. Normally this would downgrade the book being detached, but may not be the case. Not sure how it would be handled as a manufacturing error, possibly getting a blue label without downgrading. That is as long as the graders believe it is original to the book. Maybe you should send an email to customer service asking the question.
  2. Look at the side of the book. If the pages are white while the top and bottom look off-white/cream/etc, and are also flat and smooth when you run your finger across, then it is probably trimmed. Only a close inspection of the side would determine though.
  3. Why does it have to be damaged during grading? Could have been damaged sitting with Gaines all those years. Does it matter? The book got a 9.8.
  4. It's unfortunate if you want to grade a copy without the Tattooz as whether or not it was manufactured with them, it'll still be considered incomplete. Manufacturing errors occur. Look at copies of NYX #3 missing wraps 5 and/or 6. There are many miscuts, double or more covers, and such, missing staples, extra staples, and many other things. Known manufacturing errors graded by CGC if it degrades the book in any way will yield a Qualified label with Manufacturing error noted on the label so it isn't a collector's fault the book was created with a flaw. I guess enjoy the comics for what they are and get graded things for your collection. If you can make a profit, consider it a bonus. But know you may have some unique items.
  5. All copies of Amazing Spidey 238 should have Tattooz, including Canadian. It says so right on the front cover. If the Tattooz are missing, your book is incomplete and will get a qualified label. If you remove the staple and insert a Tattooz and put the staple back in and it's detected, your comic book will be Married and will state so. If the envelope the Tattooz came in is still stapled inside the comic book, but the Tattooz has been taken out via a slice, your comic book will receive a qualified label which will state Tattooz missing, and I believe will state on the label that the envelope is still present.
  6. Coins and cards are two sided objects (side of a coin is thin). Comics can have interior defects that from the outside, a cover may look mint, but you may have tears, stains, tape, writing, and other things going on inside the book that affects the grade but not the eye appeal. I was never an advocate of "it looks nicer in the holder than what the grade shows" mentality. You're getting a grade on the entire package, not just the cover. That is why some double cover grades for the covers can be higher than the final grade. The cover grades do not necessarily include the interior defects.
  7. Do you collect non-Marvel Whitman 3-packs?
  8. I wouldn't build it. There will probably come a time in the future where you will sell it. So you'll want to get the most for your money.
  9. If you have an account, you can find out when and what this sold for. http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/original-1975-mighty-marvel-comic-238396953
  10. You know I did a quick glance. I stand corrected. Then I'm guessing IF these are getting $100-200, the convention posters should command $500. Thing is you might need to find that one person. If you're selling it, I'd definitely would frame it and sell it that way. Maybe throw it in a Heritage auction to get the most publicity.
  11. Right middle looks like chipping. Top looks torn. Either way, if it was original trimmed and was torn to "remove" the trimming, the book was getting destroyed. My guess it wasn't trimmed originally.
  12. Ok, looked on Ebay. This one had a BIN of $250, but accepted best offer. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-THE-MIGHTY-WORLD-OF-MARVEL-COMICS-1975-Original-Poster-20-5x30-JOHN-BUSCEMA-/162297671120?hash=item25c9b1edd0%3Ag%3ALiEAAOSwEzxYOf-F&nma=true&si=0%252FpMe3ypeNO3Zvkz0JIk%252F2%252FirY4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 This one is asking $95 minimum with $225 BIN. Yours looks much better than either of these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-THE-MIGHTY-WORLD-OF-MARVEL-COMICS-1975-Original-Poster-20-5x30-JOHN-BUSCEMA/142251618212?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D40839%26meid%3D24c4edda384f4dd6839cc8d3649097d8%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D3%26sd%3D162297671120
  13. $10-20 is way low. New posters today go for that much. You're talking about something relatively rare and probably not too many around. Unless of course someone came across a bunch that weren't used. My guess would be a minimum of $50-100, but probably would go higher. By the way, what are the dimensions of it? Is it small, like a magazine?
  14. Not quite on topic as to I have no idea what books were in which 3-packs, but may be helpful for those who want to know what Marvel Whitman variants exist. I compiled this list a few years ago. Halfway down the thread is the alphabetical list of all known Whitman variations I could prove. http://www.comiccollectorlive.com/Forum/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=42955
  15. Manufactured with one staple is not that rare and does not affect grade. Book will always get a blue label if there is no other resto of course. Also, books with 4 staples also get a blue label. By this I mean there are 2 staples in the interior and then 2 staples putting the cover onto the book. These were remainder copies that the company needed copies to fill orders. They would take the best reject interiors/covers and "marry" them to make sure orders were filled. When a book has one staple, you have to watch for tearing with that staple as its the only thing holding the cover to the interior and has a tendency of being a little unstable.
  16. Watch the spine stress line video by Matt Nelson. This should help a little on high grade books. https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/01/19/starting-today-cgc-insider-everything-ever-wanted-know-comic-book-grading/
  17. Color touch can be removed and so can the glue, though most likely the grade will drop. You can't remove trimming, so like most people have mentioned, trimmed books are usually avoided.
  18. I didn't realize this was a thread from a few years ago. I believe the market for variations and such is extremely small, but out there. Mile High has a goal of listing everything ever published, and I applaud their effort. If you come across a variation that isn't in the Mile High database, please help them out. A few years ago I did research on all the Marvel "Whitman" variations. I think I have covered everything, at least what I could discover over the few year period that I was working on the lists. Here is the link I put up on Comic Collector Live. If anyone has anything further to add, please contact me. http://www.comiccollectorlive.com/Forum/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=42955
