typical of bubble burst after effects.
Now that less and less care about chasing books due to film or tv it will get worse.
Outliers and hot items of the moment will always exist but the days of nearly every book being hot will not exist again in the lifetimes of most reading this post today aug 4 2023
BTW this is good for collectors who are once again the lifeblood of the hobby rather than the carpetbagger flippers and speculators!
Such a good phrase, carpetbagger.

I'm 99.9% sure that isn't a Rockford. The Rockford 'S' doesn't have the kinks at the end of the lines, and I've never seen a Rockford in that kind of beat up shape.
Thank you. I wasn’t sure. I hoped it was of course, but that’s ok. I’ve been trying to be a little more educated on pedigrees lately. That way, if I do come across one in the wild, I can recognize it.

I have a big stack of random GA that I was bagging tonight and came across this. I think it might be a Rockford book. I know it would be late in the collection. I know what CGC states about the collection with the letter stamp. But they don’t mention an S. I googled Rockford Collection and came across a site that showed a picture of a book they claim is a Rockford with the same type of faded S stamp. So, just trying to figure out if it is or isn’t. I couldn’t find a list of the books from the collection online anywhere, I’m not sure that even exists. What do you think?

Well, if you really really want to be cynical about the whole thing, do you really need a third party to tell you what the condition grade of a book is?
Seriously though, it doesn't hurt if you are into the CPR game and either too lazy or don't have the technical smarts to figure out what is potentially upgradeable or not. I remember taking a look at about a dozen or so of Doug's GA Dell File copies from the late 30's/early 40's that had either the QES or CVA sticker on them when he had originally picked them up, and if I remembered correctly, it was a perect batting average when it came to him reselling them on Heritage, all encased in higher graded slabs.
The ironic and rather funny thing about it though was that Dougie still ended up losing money on the ones that originally had the QES stickers on them as some of them sold for even slightly lower dollars at HA even though they had the bigger number in the top left hand corner, but no longer any sticker on them.
He more than made it up though with the one that originally had the CVA sticker on it, probably because not as many GA collectors frequent the CL auctions as compared to the CC auctions.

I'm assuming when they assess a book for these stickers they do not remove the book from the holder. If they do need to crack the case then definitely don't do it.
Personally I wouldn't bother. Nice looking books don't need a shiny sticker to sell for their maximum amount. But if you think a book is undergraded then resubmitting it is an option with or without a CCS press. One grade bump up will increase sale value more than a sticker in my opinion.
I have this QES book. I do think its undergraded and I'm considering sending it for a press and regrade.
That is, indeed, a lovely copy.

I hate stores like that. The hope of finding underpriced gems is one of the main appeals of actually taking the time to search through back issue bins. If I want to pay FMV for something, I can go to any of a dozen different places online and order it. It's the store owner's job to find those books and price them accordingly, not the buyer's to do all the work and then pay above the marked price.
I got lucky recently the opposite way. Found good stuff and paid sticker. Nothing was said during check out. So, I was definitely lucky.

Before I found out about the Plustek, I was having a super difficult time finding a flatbed scanner that would fit slabs. I don’t think they’re produced as much now.

#1 on my want list. All I could probably afford is a pretty low grade copy, restored would be even better. Fingers crossed.

Nice grab, that's an incredibly tough book with some iconic cover art and content!
I'm not going to lie, I do not know much about it. But, I know a good book when I see one.

If comparing sales now to say, 2021, then yes, it’s a bad time to sell.
But, if you need the money for something, then IMO, it’s never a bad time to sell.
