  1. The arguable part is if Motion Picture Funnies Weekly is a Timely. I've seen people argue both ways and I never have seen a definitive answer.
  2. Same here. Every time I saw one sell I'd be like because, if I had the money, I'd have been willing to pay far more for it. Now, I could afford one if it sold for the mount of last sale. Not going to happen. Last one sold in 3.5 for $27,500 in 2017! Wow. Arguably the first appearance of the first Timely superhero, 1st appearance of sub-mariner, and insanely rare. What is not to love? Cool page showing first appearance in various media of superheroes
  3. Got this from Bedrock City at Oafcon in Norman,Oklahoma. Small convention but amazing selection of comics.
  4. Wall Street Journal says the same thing. As more and more market proof comes forward, more and more companies will quietly stop ESG. esg does neither much good nor very well - WSJ
  5. He could have contacted Wyatt and said, "No maximizing the value of my collection!" "I neither need nor want their filthy lucre!" Strangely, despite his hatred for CGC, that did not happen.
  6. I'm sure the new boss will be just like the old boss. Lots and lots of pushback on ESG. ESG is a Sham (NYtimes Link)
  7. This is from an issue of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories. #110 November 1949.
  8. This. This hoarding right here is why we can't have nice things! (Well, this and the lack of money...but I digress.)
  9. On a lighter note. Bought this from Bedrock City at the Oafcon this year in Norman, OK.
  10. It predated that lovely experience. I've seen him a few times since and I always wanted to ask about the seeming disconnect between hating CGC and having his personal collection graded but have never been brave enough. Probably be banished to Tra La La or something.
  11. I spoke with him at a convention in Albuquerque one time. He refused to speak with me or sell me anything until I identified the story name of any of the prints he was selling. I identified "Escape from Forbidden Valley" and he became friendly but still grumpy. He was complaining that people were submitting personalized sketch covers to CGC and then trying to resell them for a profit. The subtext was that he wanted a cut. Once my wife showed up he became very nice and even did 2 sketch covers for us although he did mark them not for CGC grading. He then complained about the concept of CGC grading and how you cannot read what's encapsulated. I pointed out that you can always break them out of the tomb and read them and that many people get lower-grade reading copies. He grumbled a reply and I let it drop. No since in getting him spun up again especially when he was being nice.
  12. One of my favorite Schomburg covers! I really wanted the Promise Collection copy until I saw it.
