  1. Census numbers have been growing by leaps and bounds for some of these books, haven't they? I don't know about Cap 46 specifically, but that could be a factor for some books.
  2. She parlayed her Olympic gold medals into quite the movie career in the late 30s and early 40s. I watched many of her films back in the late 80s (probably on American Movie Classics), but they weren't all that memorable. It seems like they were basically formulaic romantic comedies that allowed Henie to showcase her ice skating skills. As a side note, my grandmother worked as a telephone operator at Bell Telephone back in the 1940s, and the women there listened in on at least one of Sonja Henie's conversations when she was visiting Detroit. Apparently she swore like a sailor.
  3. Shirtless heavyset guy getting belted to shirtless heavyset guy getting melted.
  4. Spacecraft not far so well to Earth not faring so well due to spacecraft.
  5. I assume it was pressed, but it looks to me like there's about twice as much of the white "mis-wrap" strip showing in the original image.
  6. The first Golden Age/Atom Age comic that I ever purchased was a Muggsy Mouse #1 that I bought from a comic shop in Fort Collins, Colorado, in 1985. I sold that copy years ago, but I just picked up a replacement copy for the sake of nostalgia.
  7. I'm curious when coloring with crayons overtook painting in these sorts of books. Wax crayons were already common by the time this book came out and would have been easier to use than paint (I would think).
  8. Will wonders never cease? I was so sure that Ian would go with ComicConnect.
  9. I skimmed through my old VHS tapes, and sure enough, I have a few sealed ones. I guess it's a good thing I never got around to watching this one. Now I can retire in style.
  10. I think that you could move the spine slightly without creating new staple holes. Most staples aren't perfectly aligned on the spine as it is.
  11. That's a good question, but I don't know the answer.
  12. Lo and behold, the same book is a "sale pending" item on the Worldwide site!
  13. I noticed that this book was upgraded from 8.0 to 9.0. (The book is easily identifiable by the writing above the "E" in WONDER.) The grade bump with a pressing isn't what concerns me—I've gotten used to that—what does is the fact that the spine appears to have been moved slightly. The 8.0 image shows quite a bit of spine stress around the lower staple, and some of that spine stress may have been shifted to the back of the book. To me it looks like there is quite a bit more white showing along the spine in the old 8.0 image than in the new 9.0 image. What do others think? https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?id=1693117 https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/wonder-comics-12-better-publications-1947-cgc-vf-80-white-pages/a/7266-97269.s?ic4=GalleryView-ShortDescription-071515#
  14. About to be squished to narrowly avoided squishing.
  15. Former Commander-in-Chief to Supreme Allied Commander in Europe and future Commander-in-Chief.
  16. I see that the bottom one is signed Jay Scott Pike (whom I had never heard of). Did he do the Love Journal as well?
  17. Yes—and more than a few of those dads were probably more interested in the brawny, lantern-jawed male heartthrobs than they were in the females.
