  1. For the Dell material, I guess it must depend on the title. I think you'll find certain Dells missing (Disney, Looney Tunes . . . probably the Walter Lantz material, etc.).
  2. Spear-wielding man to spear wielding . . . man?
  3. Brick bouncing off glass to rubber bouncing off the ground.
  4. I wonder if those were crispy like Kellog's Rice Krispies or soft like Quaker's Puffed Rice.
  5. Well, Dells and ECs aren't there, are they? I'm pretty sure the copyrights have been maintained on those.
  6. I've seen some stiff prices paid for that book. It's one of those books that can be hard on a collector's wallet.
  7. Teenage Romances to My Own Romance; dreaming to scheming.
  8. I'm surprised to see that one there. I didn't think any MLJ books were in the public domain.
  9. I'm sorry to hear this. I did not know Richard, but I was looking at his website with Yellow Kid collectibles just last weekend.
  10. It's the cycle of life for GA comics. Soon some other books will become the new MLJs, and the Foxes will become the new World's Finest and will start selling for half guide. You heard it here first.
  11. Ensemble cast of creepy dudes to ensemble cast of creepy dudes.
  12. This one arrived today. It is only my 3rd romance comic in 38 1/2 years of collecting. (The 2nd was the True Life Secrets that I posted a few days ago.) I'm pretty sure it's also my first Christopher Rule cover.
  13. Bad guy with a Jimmy-Durante-sized schnoz to good guy with a Fred-MacMurray-inspired brow.
  14. Needy blonde to blonde whose needs are no longer being met.
  15. Dealers like Jay Maybruck have access even before the early-admission people and scoop up the higher-quality material that's reasonably priced and then jack up the prices—or so I've heard. Many dealers are also collectors, so they probably scoop up the best stuff for their personal collections. So if you really want the inside track, I guess you have to pay the dealer fee and set up a table.
  16. I've been collecting for almost 40 years, and I have never been to a national convention, either. I always hear that the selection of GA material is weak, and I don't like crowds, so for me it wouldn't be worth the expense of a special trip. If I were in the area then sure, I'd go, but the selection of books in the online auctions empties my wallet quickly enough to suit me.
  17. I wonder if it was modeled on a genuine roller derby outfit. (The roller derby days were a little before my time.)
  18. It sounds to me like they were stolen by someone known to Frank. I don't think random thieves would target a raw collection of Four Color Comics. It could be a younger relative, neighbor, or acquaintance with substance abuse issues or possibly someone who did some work for Frank and saw the collection. Raw Four Colors would be difficult to identify individually, but most thieves aren't particularly bright. Let's hope this thief gets himself caught.
  19. The #13, #14, and #15 are all awesome covers.
  20. With the Promise Collection, we figured out a long time ago that the original owner, Armand, was Armand Mezzopera, who did die during the Korean War. I don't think that Heritage ever acknowledged his ownership, but the evidence was overwhelming.
