  1. What do you consider high grade? I've always called 8.0 and up high grade.
  2. I bought some books on eBay back in 2000 and 2001, but I don't remember any bargains. My favorite eBay pick up was this Human Torch 19 because it had white pages. I can see that I hadn't gotten the hang of sniping yet because I bid with 18 seconds left. I would never bid that early now. I'm pretty sure the first bidder, actions50, was @Timely. I vaguely remember that zaq12 was a bidder on almost everything decent, but I have no idea who he was.
  3. Paratrooper putting some hurt on the enemy while still in the air to same.
  4. Your prediction was certainly true for this one. I think the seller was smart to cut his losses now. There's still quite a bit of hype around the Promise Collection. I think that it would have sold for even less if he had waited. $43,200 was still an extremely strong price; hopefully it has found its forever home.
  5. Breaking out of a sarcophagus to sleeping in one.
  6. Four legs on a pier to four legs in the air.
  7. I think you're right about that one being Nyoka. It looks like he marked the other one Nyoka in error.
  8. Trojan green monsters to Lev Gleason green monster.
  9. Mowing down the enemy to mowing down the enemy.
  10. I have never collected with a theme in mind, so I don't have a secret collection. Right now I am trying to build a sort of GA cover artist type set—at least one from each known artist, in other words—but I've had a hard time staying focused on that. There are so many different artists that I don't expect to ever finish. There are quite a few artists whose work I don't like that much, so I'm not being too picky about grade. For the ones I don't particularly like, I'm just looking for mid-grade examples that present well.
  11. It's definitely growing on me after seeing that copy. My favorites are still the Heap covers, but I think those were a little too late for the Promise Collection.
  12. I noticed that one, but I didn't bid. I just checked the hammer price and had to do a double take! I would not have been anywhere close.
  13. All-male group in a convertible to mixed group in a convertible.
  14. People trapped in a web to people trapped in a web.
  15. Even though there are good covers from every era, I tend to agree. If I were to rank the books on my "want list," I'm sure that the top 20 would all be from '38 through '42. DCs were already getting pretty boring, even goofy, by '41.
