  1. Atlas Damsel in distress to Atlas dude in distress.
  2. I don't know why I typed Cap #3; I meant Cap #1. As for Cap #3, it's an unimportant book, and if you get stuck with another one, you should sell it to me for guide. I have a copy of the guide in case you ever need me to look up the price for you.
  3. Rope belt as a fashion statement to rope belt out of necessity.
  4. Maybe edgier is the wrong word. He's flawed. He has teenage angst, etc. He's complex. (It's been a long time since I owned a copy, but didn't he kill the Green Goblin in ASM 122?)
  5. Weren't there a *spoon* Tracy Feature book and a Dumbo paint book that were also pretty hot items? Mickey Mouse Outwits the Phantom Blot is still on my want list, too, but I might be one of the last collectors alive who is still a fan of that book. I never hear it mentioned. Cap #1 might be an important book, but it's pretty common compared to Batman #1 and Supes #1, isn't it? So it's hard to see it eclipsing those in value any time soon. Also, Captain America seems to have the same image problem that Superman does: he's a bit too much of a goody-goody. Younger collectors seem to be more into Batman, Spider-Man, Deadpool, Wolverine . . . edgier characters, so I really don't know what Cap's prospects are over the long haul. Time will tell, I guess.
  6. If the Heritage results are an indicator, the GA Timely collector base must be much more aggressive than the DC base. Random Timely books were fetching stronger prices than the Actions. Of course, it may be that a very small pool of collectors were competing for the Timely comics.

  8. Everything Promise is commanding a premium, so I'm sure those will, too. Even the raw Blondie Comics that sold a week or two ago were selling for several times guide. Normally you wouldn't be able to give those away.
  9. Dude . . . THAT 8.0 went for $10K? ? ? ? That's a 6.5 all day long.
  10. I'm much closer to the weekend flea market bargain hunter, and I wouldn't want an incomplete or coverless copy of anything at any price point. It just wouldn't hold any appeal for me. I think that most collectors probably feel the same way. I would never say never with respect to a PLOD, but a PLOD would have to be super cheap. But a coverless copy? Basically never. The only possible exception would be if I already had a cover to match, and it would have to be a cover that I found in a bulk lot from an estate auction or something, because I wouldn't buy a cover, either.
  11. Non-human male interested in a human female despite the illogic of inter-species attraction to non-human male interested in a human female despite the illogic of inter-species attraction.
  12. Human child consorting with funny animals to same.
  13. Probably. It's a great cover but not a scarce one by any means.
  14. Yes. I bought one mid-grade book today. I paid a premium for it, but I knew I'd have to. It ended within the range that I thought it would, so I can live with the price. Some of the books I was watching sold for two-three times what I thought they would, even factoring in the Promise premium. The only ones that sold for less than I thought they would were a couple of the late 40s Actions.
  15. Yes, but it might not be a smart play to get into a bidding war unless "winning" truly trumps financial considerations. On a book-by-book basis, it's still possible to lose a lot of money.
  16. I've collected different things at times, but I will never be able to get into NFTs. If the collecting world passes me by because of that, oh well. I would rather collect comic book reprints than NFTs. I do not get the appeal of those; not at all. Maybe I'm just too old.
  17. Didn't an 8.0 just sell for right around $20K on CConnect? I would have expected this one to be in the same ballpark. The seller must be pleased as punch.
  18. You're probably right, but I've been collecting for 38 years and still make unforced errors—usually because of the taunting of Heritage's robotic voice saying, "YOU'VE been outbid!" ETA: I can practically see her sticking her tongue out at me after she says that.
  19. Maybe, but if you're right about Cap 1 being a $10 million book, then any copy of Tec #27 or Action 1 should be a $10 million book in any grade over VF. I can't see Cap #1 ever being on the same level as those books. It's more common and less important. ETA: "If we are still in this period of unchecked growth, 10M easy for the 9.8." That's the question of the hour, right?
  20. Portly sidekick in a boater to portly sidekick in a derby.
