  1. Love Joe Maneely's artwork. I often wonder what the Marvel Silver Age would have been if Maneely was still alive to be Stan's 'go-to' guy, instead of Kirby. On Kirby, while he may not have received his artwork or character ownership during the zenith of his career at Marvel, wasn't it noted that he received substantial bonuses then?
  2. Its not my standard...its just the way it is amongst the OA collecting majority. Sorry you don't like my response, but it is what it is...fact.
  3. It doesn't resonate. Aside from Gray Morrow Zatanna pages or perhaps a few very nice Grandinetti DC War covers, it was run of the mill stuff, and there has been decades of run of the mill stuff that just isn't memorable, and hence, its not nostalgic and not collected.
  4. There's only one fella that I can recall that mentioned this on the boards, and I don't think he's as active as he was once upon a time. Still, $264K for the Conan 2 cover is a pretty big number, all things considered.
  5. Ever? Really? Stronger than Archie or Fawcett or EC? Highly dubious.
  6. Geez, as much as I love Garcia Lopez OA, prices are starting to get serious now!
  7. Would be interesting to see what the original cover art would sell for in todays crazy market.
  8. They have no choice…too much product/consignments to move now
  9. Except that the Hobgoblin appears prominently on the cover, and his alter ego appears throughout issue 238, yeah, why not do as you suggest? 😉
  10. I thought it was an exceptionally strong price considering the OA is mounted onto poster board!
  11. When Jack and Joe we’re publishers, did they ever return the OA back to Mort Meskin and other artists who worked for them?
  12. No worries. Here’s what I posted about it: Keown Hulk The End cover. Full disclosure --> i was the original owner and held onto this piece for approximately 15 years. The artwork and story for this one-shot were very special to me, and it must have been for many others, too, because the cover has been reprinted numerous times, in various languages. Alas, nothing is forever, and I needed to sell it to raise funds for something else.
  13. He wasn’t a visionary wrt keeping the original art. Eisner preceded him in doing so by a decade
  14. Remember seeing it on the Donnelly’s site, then on Burkey’s
  15. I was the underbbidder on the asm 197 cover. Very happy I put in some punishment bids towards the end!!!
  16. Wouldn’t even put Kirby in my top 50! Happy B-day Neal!
  17. Didn’t 166 have more than the standard number of pages, similar to 175?
