  1. Yup, I placed a strong bid, but at least two people wanted it even more. Upon reflection, I'm glad I didn't win it.
  2. Well, there was a 9.8 ow/w on Clink's Exchange that sat at slightly over $30K for a few days with no takers. But as the Mass Pedigree copy went to $38K, I believe the price on the copy on the Exchange was raised to $35K, and once the Mass Pedigree auction ended at $55.1K, the copy on the Exchange was jacked up to $53K. There is also another 9.8 available on ebay for $75K (was 53K prior to the sale of the Mass Pedigree copy)
  3. The 9.4 has ow/w pages and that's why it 'under-performed' relative to the uglier looking 9.2 If the 9.4 had white pages, it would have hit $8K, possibly a bit more.
  4. be thankful you aren't collecting comic books. The recent CLINK auction has proven to be an exercise of swimming in shark-infested waters, with price multiples far exceeding OA increases, especially on Bronze and Copper Age books. As Jordy said to me, we need someone to develop a 'fainting emojie' in response to these crazy record prices!
  5. I recall the last time prices escalated in such rapid fashion (albeit not by as many multiples), was in the very late 80's/early 90's for Silver Age books in particular. Prices rose so quickly that Overstreet published Quarterly Updates to his Annual Price Guide, but still couldn't keep up with the price increases so he upped the frequency of the Updates to bi-monthly for a few years until the updates finally caught up to market prices. When all was said and done, numerous (runs) of books had doubled or tripled (some by even greater multiplier).
  6. I don’t know what the profile of an ‘average’ comic book collector is, but these days, with more and more folks narrowing their collections to focus on keys only, I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility to think that there are many, many collectors who can afford $5K books. This collecting segment is probably a lot larger than we think.
  7. It’s unfortunate the seller listed it with a closing date during a long weekend.
  8. With these incredible, high-grade bronze age books, new records will be set!
