  1. Stuff I personally rate highly (my book/exhibition, so my choices), from any era or genre.
  2. Yeah, twice-up ASM covers are more plentiful commencing with # 40. Think I've seen most of those you list (though not in person). I was focussing on the more rare Ditko covers in my response.
  3. ASM #s 12, 28 and 30 are definites. ASM # 8 reportedly got destroyed in a house fire. I've heard of a few more Ditko ASM covers in possible existence but have yet to see any concrete evidence. I've owned maybe half-a-dozen large art Marvel covers at one time, but have only one remaining example in my collection (not really superhero, but it's a sort of cross-over example as it features the origin of Hydra . . . Capt. Savage & His Leatherneck Raiders # 2, which I posted earlier in this thread).
  4. Did a separate thread on this one a few months ago. Steve Ditko's splash page 1 to Amazing Spider-man # 32. Yeah, I know, no Spidey, no villains and no characters . . . but I couldn't care less or be any happier. If you're looking for a great shot of Doc Ock's secret underwater base from the highly-regarded Master-Planner trilogy, this is it! And what would a 'splash' page be without some Ditko fish Undoubtedly would have missed the opportunity of snagging this had it not been for Grapape's photographic record of the LA comic-show
  5. I've no doubt that there are earlier OA Silver Surfer appearances from FF out there, though maybe not 'surfacing' in widely-known circles. Ken Danker owned the cover to this issue. Saw it in person over ten years ago whilst on a visit to his home in Florida where I polished off his beer supplies
  6. Met John Higgins (Watchmen colorist and artist in his own right) several times over the years which usually resulted in the consumption of alcohol. Super-nice guy.
  7. Doing a 10% discount on all remaining artworks up until the end of February 2020, after which time all unsold artworks go back in my collection (not a sales tactic . . . I just don't like leaving For Sale items up indefinitely). Three of the pictured artworks have now sold. https://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=201959
  8. Problem with these kinds of items is that if niggling doubts exist at time of purchase they're unlikely to go away anytime soon. Over time, it will become increasingly difficult to even look at the piece with any level of satisfaction . . . always with feelings of doubt. Unless 100% confident, best to avoid.
  9. Right, thanks, Mitch. Whenever I've consigned with dealers in the past 10% has been the norm. I'll shoot you a PM later on. Maybe we can do something. Terry Doyle
  10. What percentage fee do you charge on successful consignment sales, Mitch?
  11. All these empty boxes collectors are so casually discarding . . . wouldn't be too surprised to come across eBay sellers at some future point offering empty IDW Artist Edition boxes!
  12. 1. The full book of pencils, featured in Ditko is Amazing, show a mixture of lettered and un-lettered pages. My take on that is that Ditko handed his art in for the dialogue/lettering to be added BEFORE commencing inking the drawings. As we can see from this example: 2. I've seen a copy of Ditko's pencilled splash page to ASM # 38 out there. And as a side-note, Lee once claimed to have come up with the idea for the opening sequence of ASM # 33, where Spidey spends several pages mustering-up the strength and will-power to free himself from the massive weight of machinery pinning him down. Ditko himself proved Lee to be taking false credit on that one . . .
  13. Jim Young (which I've previously mentioned), A lot of the EC stories and two Ditko ASM pages originated from my collection. Met Jim a few times when he was working in the UK; first time he came down to visit me to buy art in person. Nice guy, glad he did well out of the auction.
  14. Very nicely put, Unca Ben, and I respect most of what you're saying even if I have a different opinion.
  15. I detect a bit of Frazetta, too. They need to add Fritz's name to the list . . . and maybe Steranko. Steranko would be good.
  16. Bought a Ditko ASM from Bechara late last year; good guy to do business with and the re-launched web-site is great.
  17. I sold the vast majority of my comic-book collection during the latter half of the 1980s to concentrate on OA. Nowadays I'm happy to own reprint collections of the titles that remain enduring favourites. Stuff I can re-read, knowing there's not a great deal of value in these reprints edition. Although I get how the slabbing phenomenon works, I never did like the idea of encapsulated comic-books that, while preserving an accepted grade, only displays a front and back cover. That idea, to me, works best for things like coins or trading cards. Glad to be out of the comic-book collecting community and happy with my reprint editions which I can actually re-read and not get hung up on things like grading or restoration issues.
  18. Kinda sad to see the quality of Jack's work taking a big nose-dive in the artist's later years. Let's be honest with ourselves, this is all-too-obviously not good and, for me, is painful to look at. Best to remember Jack at the height of his powers and not dwell or be reminded of what old age brought.
  19. Super-talented artist, one of the best. Happy birthday, John!
  20. A heavy chain belt for his trousers, no less! He needs a big medallion and a pair of platform shoes . . .
  21. I've seen the same Movie Poster original paintings being listed twice by the same seller in Europe. One offering is higher than the other but the shipping charges are low. The other listing gives a slightly lower price for the painting but the shipping charges are higher. When you compare the total price per listing for the same painting being offered twice, the overall prices are exactly the same.
