  1. Seeing those admission fees, I guess they were going for the 'if two people buy tickets, we'll turn a profit' angle.
  2. Yeah, I don't know if they were going out of business or what. Wish I'd gotten their name.
  3. Anyone know if any 50-cent boxes will be there? A few years ago there was somebody that had one that was even alphabetized. And they were bagged and boarded too- a rare find. Never saw them again, far as I know.
  4. As far as KC, I wish some medium/large size show would go back to Overland Park. I know downtown is cool, rad, groovy and totally hipster dood, but the last thing I want after paying $25 or so to look is to mess with midtown parking. I know I'm just a grouch though.
  5. Eh, I was thinking it might be creased along the left side of the grade. At closer look, I guess it's just a shadow.
  6. An odd one I saw. Label (flip is an old sportscard term) is crunched up in the top left. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CGC-7-0-Tales-Of-Suspense-93-IRON-MAN-CAPTAIN-AMERICA-1967-VF-/272834968403
  7. Curious about a slab I bought. I know it's a good seller, fine record and such. Just trying to learn this stuff. Ain't easy for old dogs. Can the flip (the insert with the grade, etc) move around or get shaken out of place? Pic kinda makes it look that way, but could be distorted. Or was it cut weird? I'll check to see what it looks like currently. And yeah, I know it's just a cheapo book/grade. Just asking. KidColt edit- added today's pic. Guess I shoulda taken it out of bag. I will if necessary.
  8. Anyone have dealings with 'em? I guess everyone here probably has, but figured I'd ask. Some nice stuff and good feedback record. Saw some older threads.
  9. Or CW's Children's Palace stores, which we had in my old town. Or Showbiz. Miss those kind of places. Cry.
  10. I hope this doesn't turn into baseball cards, where they've torn up so many Babe Ruth bats and uniforms for quick profit. I admit I used to collect those, but it just ain't right. Something like AF15 I could only possibly get a 0.5 or a qualified .5 (and that's at 'several years ago' prices. For those to vanish from the market would be pretty sad. Edit-- I guess somebody already brought that up.
  11. I wonder if it'd help stir further interest if they made a way to 'collect' and trade/sell ecomics. Unless they have already; I'm like a couple decades out of the loop. I guess that's going on with cards.
  12. I don't know. Prices would have to come down dramatically. I wouldn't pay $4 for something I can read in 5 minutes. Kind of like how I don't want to pay $35 just to walk into a comic show just to see there's nothing of interest there. They'd never get me interested again. I'm the Reprint Man, and there I'm stayin'.
  13. Same cycle as other stuff (except pogs, they don't count). People like stuff, throw stuff away, wish they could buy stuff again later. Prices of stuff goes up. Movies + television pushes prices of often heretofore-ignored stuff to silly heights. Good point about smaller homes/downsizing. I hear it is a trend with the younger sort.
  14. Never been there, and wouldn't ever want to. Seems like almost every con is either some horribly crowded, obnoxious mega-event or a lame rented conference room with 5 dealers selling trashed, unbagged books. Neither is worth the hassle as far as I'm concerned. But I guess I've said all this before. Whatever. "Nobody goes there anymore; it's too crowded." --the Yogi Berra of myth and legend.
  15. Wouldn't care to be honest, as I only read old reprints anymore.
  16. I'm holding out on resubbing until they add on one more decimal point.
  17. Is There a Guide to Identifying Tampered Slabs vs. Normal Flaws/Damage? Sort of like the frosting post, but speaking broadly. With say, PSA sports cards there's plenty of info out there. It'd be great if there was some sort of site going over the specifics or taking a number of examples and breaking them down. Finding a perfect slab on ebay is like finding an Amazing Fantasy 15 in a 50-cent box. Or a haystack. Whichever. Ok, I'm exaggerating, but it gets irritating (like my posts) to look at ebay mega whales or small fry alike and see chipping, odd white gunk or the like and not knowing what the deal is. Just curious if anyone knows of a site or such with a good rundown.
  18. If I may ask one last dumb question, which slab do you mean when you say 'redesigned?' I've found news items from Mar 16 mentioning a new design and then Jun 16 modifying the new design. I've also seen the old-old holder ebay example but the newer ones all look the same to me. Sorry, don't mean to be a pest--
  19. One thing I haven't seen (perhaps I've missed it) is a comprehensive guide to identifying tampering with CGC slabs. Perhaps it's not enough of a problem to warrant such a study. I've been around graded sports cards some and it's a big problem; just trying to figure out the comic side of things.
  20. Ah well. In any event, a couple of examples. - lower right. http://mycomicshop.com/search?ItemID=43417847 Right side front. May be glare, but at least looks kind of like what I'm talking about. I've heard SGC cards they can sometimes show the little dashes without being tampered with, wasn't sure with CGC slabs though. http://mycomicshop.com/search?ItemID=43603118
  21. Frosting on CGC Slabs- How Much is Too Much? Title says it all I guess. Was looking at some auctions but noticed more than one slab with 'dashes' of frost around the slab, as opposed to a solid line going the length of a side. I know from card grading that small bits of frost aren't necessarily a sign of tampering, but does it work that way with CGC books? Thanks all---
  22. Sometimes I buy graded books/cards for resale (yeah, I'm a jerk but I need money). Was looking at some CGC books, but read that the dealer did pressing. They were also mentioned as taking in grading subs in-shop, so I don't know if they meant CCS or in-house. Anyhow, it puts me in a spot, because I guess I'd be obligated to disclose just the possibility of it having been pressed. It's just a whole big annoying can o' worms. Guess I'll just avoid and look elsewhere.
