  1. Hello everyone. I am a major collector of all international editions and foreign price variants of American comics. The information on this thread is really fantastic. Thank you for sharing.

This is slightly off topic, so I apologize in advance. I was thinking if anyone was interested or had further knowledge, it would be you guys. I recently found these two books with price stamps from Kenya that appear to be official import stamps, as oppose to second hand store stamps. The 2 different stamps have different prices, so I assume they were importing to Kenya for a few years. Has anyone ever seen one of these or have any information? I can't find any info anywhere on the web. Thank you.

  2. Ok, here is a book that seems to be scarce. I have been trying to complete my set of Image Turtle books for some time now. I have an alert set and have seen nearly every issue that has been posted to ebay for the past year. In that time, I have only seen 3 newsstand copies of issue 2 and 1 badly beaten up newsstand copy of issue 3. That's it. No other issues. The entire series is relatively tough to find but issue 1 seems to be the most common. Of the 100+ copies of issue 1 that I have seen, not one has been a newsstand. If anyone has seen newsstands of other issues, let me know. Thanks.

I've managed to dig up about five copies of WildCATS 2 NS in the past few months (only one in high grade, around 9.6, the others have all been around F/VF), but have only found one NS of WildCATS 1.

I've managed to snag three or four Shadowhawk 1 NS's, but again, they've all been mid-grade. I also managed to dig up a Deathblow 1 NS (around VF+) which is the only copy I've ever personally seen.

They're fun to hunt. You don't find them often, but when you do, they're usually cheap, because they've been tossed in with all of the other Image drek.

Did anyone ever confirm if there was a Youngblood 1 NS? I've never seen one, that's for sure.

I have been collecting them for a few years now (just the first year of Image 1's and a few random issues, like WildC.A.T.S. 2 with major alternate covers.) I have not seen newsstands for ANY early issues of Youngblood. For whatever reason, I don't think Youngblood went to newsstands at all.

Personally, WildC.A.T.S. 1 and Deathblow 1 have been the two most difficult to find. Brigade 1 is also tough.

The Maxx 1 is extremely difficult in 9.4 - 9.8

Of all the early Image books (besides Spawn,) I think Darker Image 1 is one of the best issue to buy. It is the first appearance of the Maxx. He is still one of the more relevant of all those characters and the variants of that book still sell very well. The market will eventually realize that the NS edition is much more difficult to find than any of the "rare" gold or silver foil editions.

Many people have a bad habit of using "newsstand" to describe regular editions of issues that had enhanced covers. Ironically, the actual newsstand edition in most of those cases had the enhanced cover.

I have have seen this as well. I believe it is older comic sellers getting confused by modern direct books, because they have barcodes.

Just picked up Youngblood V2 #1 newsstand along with Cyberforce #1,2, Maxx #1, Shadowhawk #4 with the Savage Dragon on the cover, Spawn #12, 14, 16, 17, 39, 75, 79, 112, Medieval Spawn / Witchblade #3, and Spawn Bible #1. Cleaned house of all these awesome newsstands for $1.20 or less.

Spawn Bible direct edition is not that easy to find. A newsstand edition is a great find. Congratulations!

The majority of Image newsstands are tough to find. It would be interesting to see how rare some are.

I have been hunting them for a while now. I'm only collecting the 1st issues, keys and issues that had huge cover variations like Wildcats #2. I don't have the room for full runs. From my experience, they all seem to be equal in scarcity. I'm still missing a few but I have seen them all (except Youngblood, I don't think it exists.) This may not be true for later issues. You can find them because not many people are looking. Of the first issues, Deathblow 1 may possibly be one of the toughest. It has such an extreme variation, that people notice. The real rarity is finding any of them in 9.2+ condition. The Maxx 1 has been the toughest for me. The all black cover is a newsstand nightmare. I cannot find a copy over 8.5. Shadowhawk 1 has the same problem. I was very lucky finding a nice one of those.

Thanks guys, Ausreprints has been great, I will look into the others. Flash was reprinted in Australia very soon after the US. Maybe first  of the many different international

It would seem that the first Silver Age Flash, outside of the US, was in Australia's Hundred #3 in 1956. I don't know of any other edition that pre-dates this one.

  8. Hi Terry,

I started the foreign comic collectors group on facebook that is associated with Foreign Comic Collector Magazine. There are very few doing research on these types of books, that we know of. We can put you in contact with an expert in Australia. Feel free to come and join us on facebook. I have been chasing these books as well as other vintage Australian editions for many years. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I know how extremely difficult these are to find.

  9. A few months back, Vampire Hunter D finally appeared in a american comics series. I was a big fan of the movie and was excited about these books. They came out without much fanfare, and it seems hardly any shop ordered them. That's a bit dissapointing. Here is a couple of very nice store variants that seem to fly under the radar with a tiny print run. The first is a Stanley "Artgerm" Lau cover. The color was 750 I think, but the black and white is only 250.

Yea, weird Supreme would have one and not Shadowhawk.

Just like the others, it has no foil, just grey. Here is a photo of mine. It would be nice if there were a database to keep track of these books.

I see you already recieved a few replies. I dont mean to gang up on you.
