  1. If you read the description of this Action 1 on the CC site, it would seem the degree of restoration on this specific book may be less extensive than prior resto jobs by IGB? Not sure, but perhaps that would relate to this issue.
  2. I believe it has been now graded and slabbed by CGC (same book).
  3. CL auction wins... I didn’t realize until this morning, all four books have Joe Doolin covers. I guess I must like that guy!
  4. +1 Frank Cho has my vote too. A lot of modern comic artists take such liberties with anatomy that the art appears absurd to me. A decade ago I would've probably considered much Golden Age art to be "crude" - and perhaps it is, but to my current eye it compares more favorably to modern comic art. Especially in regards to GGA. (Just my opinion - art is very subjective!) That said, I think Frank Cho bucks the trend and captures a more 'realistic', yet attractive, female form.
  5. Wow I didn't expect such a fast response to my post! Keep these awesome covers coming
  6. I know there are many GGA-related threads already, but I think the "jungle girls" deserve their own thread. Titles like Jo-Jo, Jumbo Comics, Jungle Comics, etc! I am a fan but by no means an expert... - what are your favorite "jungle girl" series? - what are you favorite "jungle girl" covers? - please post your own copies if you got 'em!
  7. Looks like it has an $800,000 Reserve price ? (Unless I am misunderstanding the listing)
  8. I am selling the book no reserve, free shipping. Ends Sunday afternoon. https://outside-affiliatelinksnotallowed.ebay.com/outside-affiliatelinksnotallowed/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F122762109296
  9. For you guys collecting a run... how deep you go? anybody trying to put together a run with raw books?
  10. By the way I do agree with you mwotka that grading labels should be taken with a grain of salt!! They are not the end all be all.
  11. Also if you take the reputable grading companies out of the picture ... in the "old days" I am sure plenty of less knowledgeable buyers got fleeced really badly. Rather than relatively minor quibbles about grading policies changing over time... stuff like buyers thinking they're getting an unrestored 5.0 (which is really a restored and slightly trimmed 4.5) etc. I don't think the grading companies or their policies are perfect, but in the grand scheme of things if a less experienced collector ends up with an unrestored Tec 27 I think they are doing ok whether they pay 375, 400 or whatever! of course Expert collectors still have the "upper hand". But CGC has surely overall been quite a friend to the casual non-expert collector.
  12. The number on the blue label would increase the value by X00,000 to a less experienced collector, sure. not sure it would change the value near as much for a more experienced collector (unless they planned to resell it). The book is the book regardless of the number on the label.
  13. It's crazy the amount of books being traded on Instagram now (even GA and SA). Just bought my first book on Insta a few weeks ago.. and yes even seen some AF 15's for sale on there...
  14. In the fine art world, if a high-$ piece from a desirable artist sits unsold for more than a few weeks or months, it can get an unfortunate stigma: "what do the other potential buyers know, that I don't?" ... even if the price is reasonable. the auction format hugely affects buyer psychology (both with fine art and collectibles like comics). And when we are talking 6 figure prices for pieces of paper... buyer psychology is a (the?) huge driver of the market.
  15. Yes I was shocked by this. seems like some bumpy price discovery is now occurring at the entry level. the 4.0s, 5.0s and up had a major tick upward earlier this year. Perhaps the lower grade market for this book is now capitulating ?
  16. Yeah honestly I didnt plan on letting it go... it was just an offer I couldn't refuse ? As an aside, swapping books is a lot more fun than buying them. Made me feel like a 10yo kid swapping baseball cards again!
  17. Swapped with another collector for another Golden Age book -- not sold. (Collector who got it in trade, then auctioned it)
  18. If entry level Action 1 is 250ish now... And a 1.0 unrestored (brittle) were offered for 175k .. it would sell very quickly no? (maybe my numbers are off but you get the idea) In my opinion brittle books, like trimmed, need a discount to sell, but realistically ... a nicely presenting but brittle unrestored book still has a healthy market, if it's a hot book and the price is right. Probably a deeper market than the same book if trimmed.
  19. Same book same grade different case label... I'd take the 15%-25% discount all day long
