Thanks for the info. Was looking at Gaiman handwriting and it looks like his lowercase b could be a match.
Also heard that Gaiman is fond of the old style quill pens and that makes sense for the artwork style.

You are welcome.  The writing that stood out to me the most is that first "A" , the way they wrote the "TH" and the extended "e" at the end. None really matched eithers traditional writing style.

That said Steadman really love the quill and spatter style which is why I said the art almost immediately strikes me as classic Steadman.

Maybe you could try sending images of it to Steadman or Gaimen along with any information about who had the card (estate it was found) through his Instagram and see if you get a response. You never know you may a response detailing memories.

  2. The artwork looks , to me more like Ralph Steadman,  but the handwriting really doesn't look like either of them.

    Steadman hand writing.

This doesn't mean it isn't them as when someone takes their time writing vs their type writing it can change,  but when compared to these known examples (from roughly the same time 90's) you can see neither of the "TH" in words likes the , their, these , etc resemble the configuration of the card. Plus that "A " in the beginning of the card is somewhat unique and I do not see any real comparable in their examples.

It is a neat card! Good luck with the search!

    Yeah, that's why I thought I'd ask here. I don't need a mess. Lol.

Plasti-Dip comes in a spray paint can. It can be found at the same places as most other spray paints. The only difference is as it sounds it is plastic and it can be peeled off. It may be worth just buying 1 can and testing it as you should be able to peel it off if you do not like the results.  I would also test it to see if some books sitting on it would cause it to peel or transfer,  but I would think it would be less likely to transfer than cheap spray paint.

It was probably graded a 10 and then encapsulation got there hands on it. I'm guessing alot of these defects happen after grading and during encapsulation?

While we would like to think that is the case,  here it is not. @ the 9:22 mark you can see the book (where just before he exclaimed, " I think we got one" ) he shows the 10.0 sitting raw. You can see in this video that finger bend.

  5. As a set 1-4 usually sells anywhere from about $40 on the low end raw and a higher CGC graded set 9.2-9.6 sells for around $400-$500. This set still in mailers you could probably ask closer to the $400 mark or higher and let someone negotiate down.

As if they actually all grade out 9.6 to 9.8 they could potentially be more valuable.  (This is not likely, but not impossible.  )

Personally the mailers still sealed are a lot cooler.

What are your thoughts @Cpt Kirk ?
