  1. It definitely is a prime target for mugging, robbery, and pick pockets. ( speaking of which that was another one, Poly Pockets and Pound Puppies) Yes it happens in other places that get shipments of the brand new shoes. (Although with the value of some of these they have started pre order and pick up only to try to limit fights)
  2. To really tip my age, Mr. Potato Head was huge. It was hard to find kits when they were first released. They advertised the heck out of it. Plus back then you still had to get the potatoe..
  3. Jokes aside. I did manage to get one for my daughter, but like you said it was before the insanely. Still have it, but it is well worn.
  4. Ha. I will admit that I was a goon lined up outside of a Toys R Us on Long Island back in 1995 waiting for the store to open so I could run and grab the reissue of Slave-1 from the Star Wars POTF2 line. It was a direct reissue from the vintage Star Wars lines. As the store opened, everyone ran and one guy slipped on the turn and broke his ankle. I stopped as I considered the live choices that led me there. I walked to the toy aisle and saw that that there was one with a tear in the box that people were ignoring so I took that one home while people were fighting for it. That was the last day I ever ran or rushed for anything in a store. Not on Black Friday. Not on Christmas... It's just not worth it. People are getting into it these days over discounted TV's at Walmart. Just not worth it. I have seen people race and get into it over Startling Lineups, Star Wars 1995-1998 figures, Power Rangers, Tickle Me Elmos and the like. This stuff is nothing new. My dad worked at Sears as a second job during the Cabbage Patch craze and he has some interesting stories to tell. Whenever they got them in stock it was all hands on deck as far as security went. There is long time board member here who worked with my dad but he does not post much anymore. I know he has stories to tell. I too remember so many examples of this madness. Definitely the Furbys, Cabbage Patch, Tickle me Elmo, Power Ranger, Star Wars, Nintendo ( Then again with the Power Glove, Wii, DS, ) , Care Bears, Razor Scooters, Beanie Babies, Transformers, Frozen Elsa Dolls( although just about anything Frozen when it came out), Zhu Zhu Pets, Teddy Ruxpin, I pod, I pad, Xbox 360 , Playstation 3(again with 5 ) , and just so many more it could be a thread of its own . Just sad how many times and how often this happens.
  5. I hope so. The one of the 3 that I pulled I do not think it had a shot. To me it is maybe a 9.2 due to the 3 spine ticks that break color. Although at first I only saw two, but after looking closer there is a third. But the other two look good. So
  6. Thank you. I definitely will update when they make it back.
  7. Today I just got in my raw books that I am sending in for the Sara Frazetta signing. I ordered 3 from KRS and of them only 2 really made the cut. One had two color breaking spine ticks. I chose the Mars Attacks Red Sonja #5 as I really liked the cover and similarly to Frank's work. Here are the raw pictures. Also tried to make sure they could not miss this package in their mountain of submissions.
  8. Yes. She has done a few covers. I thought those look neat so when I saw the in house signing I picked up a few to send in. That one is Mars Attacks Red Sonja #5 with the Sara Frazetta cover.
  9. These came in today. A still sealed pack of the Animaniacs Red Cross . These are headed back out to the Sara Frazetta Signing.
  10. Lol I dont post it to public, it's just the 3rd part hosting to post here Otherwise I wouldnt have it there Haha, I came to the boards just before they fixed that on the boards with regular pictures, I'm so glad that changed Well you did save yourself from a Greggy comment on YouTube. He probably would have called you a dork or posted pictures of a 1,000 of his copies of the same book.
  11. Living in Florida where we have a high water table, monsoon seasons, and hurricanes, there is just as much of a problem from swimming pools floating up out of the ground and crashing into your house or the neighbors..
  12. place tarp over all staples I was more making a joke at the Eerie #1 counterfeits. You can see what I am referring to here . Believe the discussion about the Blue line staples starts about page 5..
  13. One issue of trying to waterproof is if you attempt to seal the boxes or CGC cases you do not allow for off gassing. Definitely wouldn't want to cause issues trying to prevent others. How many waterproof fire safe rusty staple stories have you heard? I too vote for the CIS option. Protect what you can as best you can, but insure.
  14. Just luck. Pretty sure the guy I got them from picked them up as they came out. When I saw them I remember you saying a while back you were looking for that Helspont, but later had found it. When I saw this many in a continous run including that one I had to pick them up.
  15. Yes. I am excited to have found so many in one place. and definitely love the Turners can't wait for the Superman/Batman #4 German printers proof to come back from CGC (although it went to Joey first. I hope he gets it through before the final date before price bump but really do not want it rushed so it may not be back till next year. ) Also congratulations on your TMNT #1 remark it looks awesome!
  16. A lot of people avoided the later printings of almost everything back then which has led to some with decent prices on them. Like the hand full of second print newsstand books (although these are the least valuable of them) the rest being Batman 457, Superman 50, Spider man 1 gold ups( produced for walmart) Also think things like DC Universe Logo, or the JC Penney books( pressman)
  17. But to try to help with the question at hand. I would think this was all part of the pure glut and over production of the time. Back then so many stores were selling comics and the Big Two were breaking into so many markets. Both DC and Marvel started producing multi packs for Kmarts, Targets, Walmarts, Costcos, Kaybee Toys, Toys'R'us, BAM, Waldenbooks, and so many more. Almost every corner store as well as every big chain. A lot of the packs came in so many forms and they would fill them with anything from character packs, ro runs, to just random over stock. A lot of the packs contain second prints. Here is an example of the pack that contained the WOS 90 second ( direct although you can not tell when they are sealed.) This combined with a popular character and the huge celebration they had for Spider-mans 30th cards these books public appearances oh and who could forget all the promotional stuff! Goes to help explain why... pure profit.
