  1. I got this one over 20 years ago. Still one of my favorites. Still searching for a high grade copy of NIGHT ON BEAR MOUNTAIN.
  2. Oh you are right. I did not see the head shot with the pipe. Thanks for pointing that out! The artist drew a modern deer cape I think and that is what threw me off but the pipe should have been a dead giveaway.
  3. Never heard of the Graphic Fantasy books. Would like to see one. Here is another book I think is pretty rare. I've been trying to get a high grade copy for years but most seems pretty beat up. Comico Primer #2 has first appearance of GRENDEL. While not a hot character at the moment he was during the 1980s.
  4. Cool! However, the HIT COMICS #29 does predate by 1 year. Could this be considered his first on a cover?
  5. Thanks for the heads up. I read the comic and it is interesting. I wonder if this is his first but it sure is a good candidate.
  6. Wow! Some definite keepers there. Here are a few of my own.
  7. NEW GODS #1 is a greatly under-looked gem! Lots of first appearances and really kicks off Kirby's Fourth World that is still ith DC even to this day! I always pick up high grade copies whenever I can. With DARKSEID coming to the DC cinematic universe I predict that DC will develop it as a either a TV or movie franchise. I am trying to get the whole series in high grade when I can (along with MR.MIRACLE). In fact all of Kirby's DC work is a great addition to any collection.
  8. I picked this up in the $2 box at a recent show. I read it and saw that there was a BATMAN Frank Miller story that pre-dates DARK KNIGHT. Is this Frank's first BATMAN story (he only did the art)? Could be a sleeper.
  9. SHERLOCK HOLMES in Comics I am a big Sherlock Holmes fan but I also love comics. Can anyone tell me what was the very first SHERLOCK HOLMES appearance in comics anywhere? I am thinking 4 color because TARZAN and LONE RANGER appear there but I am unsure.
  10. So MARVEL SUPER SPECIAL MAGAZINE predates the comic mini-series then?
  11. Loving this topic. I remember a lot of these books during the whole 1980s independent comic boom. Here is a suggestion. MEGATON #2 featuring first appearance of SAVAGE DRAGON by Erik Larson. Not expensive but hard to find in high grade.
  12. Here is my raw copy of AMAZING FANTASY #15. Bought it at a convention 20 years ago. I want to get it graded but can't afford it right no.
  13. Is RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK #1 1st Indiana Jones? Is the RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK #1 the 1st appearance of INDIANA JONES in comics?
  14. How do stickers effect grade? I've come across several bronze age books that have a 20¢ sticker over a 15¢ cover price. Was this deliberate on the part of the retailer or publisher? How does this effect a grade if it was done at the printer or was publisher induced?
  15. PGM MARVEL PREVIEW #7 I picked this up at a flea market recently for $5. Was it worth it? It has a tape pull so I am unsure of the grade. What is your opinion?
  16. WOW! Those are some sweet looking books! Here are some recent acquisitions:
  17. Speaking of under-rated artists: Frank Brunner Mike Ploog Garcia Lopez Curt Swan Shaffenberg Herb Trimpe Sal Buscema Gene Colan Marie Severin
  18. Hi there! I am new to this forum so be gentle. I've been unloading a bunch of original artwork that I had in storage since the early 1990s and been selling them on EBAY. I've been very surprised at the prices I've been getting on some pages. Pages I only paid $10-$20 in the 1980s going for way more that I could ever imagine. Is the original comic art market becoming hot even for common pieces? I dunno. For example I just sold a SPIDERWOMAN #48 page 8 for over $1100. I was shocked. I also sold 5 pages from DREADSTAR #17 for $750 total. A NOT BRAND ECHH #11 pg 45 I sold for $865. And I still have about 20 pages left out of stack of 45 I had bought back in the 1990s. And these were not name artists (except for Jim Starlin). Right now I have a Rick Buckler page from DC Special #12 and it is already at $300. Crazy!
