X-Men: Gold 1 (First Printing with controversial art) CGC 9.8 $75

    (2 available) 1 LEFT!

This book was forced back to printing due to remove some hidden political messaging and the artist was fired by Marvel. This is the original first print.

It will be the one right before he kills over. Until then, every one will be his "last" convention in that city.

From everything I've heard and read he is pretty much done with the convention scene after this year.  I could see him going to SDCC or something maybe but, assuming he doesn't, I'm looking to see if anyone knows his kat's scheduled appearance?

    Thanks,

I thought maybe the Pekar estate confirmed as much or something that he only signed one copy of that book and no more.

That's what got me curious, if there was some weird back story or provenance to the book.

It makes sense if you mean it as "only copy I can find for sale right now...in existence".

    Good Luck with the Sale!

Agreed... its an unverifiable claim and it just feels kind of slimy... not saying that as a personal attack but hyperbole in an auction isn't a good thing.  It's also something that could be used against you on ebay as you making a false claim.  I'd consider editing and changing it.

Also, did you get it personally signed?  Is there any COA or pics of the signing etc?

On the Darkhawk #1 CGC 9.8, looks like about 30-35 copies have sold in 2017. Top end sell price has been $210, low end was $68.  Add in costs to grade, ship, insure and selling fees and your profit on top end is around  $155 and bottom end is about $18. Then you have to hope CGC sees your perfect copy as a 9.8 instead of an equally sharp 9.6. Add in that the Darkhawk movie rumors have driven up the price of Darkhawk #1, I expect prices to level down in the next few months if more news doesn't follow.

Early 90s was a bad time to be investing in comics, I'd hold off until there is a true confirmation that Darkhawk will appear in a movie.

    Good luck.

Or slab it and flip it now, if you think the rumors are false... seems all this stemmed from the Gaurdians of the Galaxy Darkhawk Toy... he wasn't in Movie 2, but at some point it seems he will be a part of Guardians... whether it is movie 3 or in the comic or something.

It's very possible. When talking about future film projects in particular, having something to market to the world would be right up Disney's alley.

On the bright side, the films have pretty much been enjoyable.... especially compared to the pile of dung that is the DC films.   Even Fox finally got a Wolverine movie right (although Age of Apocalypse was just awful).

They should have just called her Iron Woman or Iron Girl. Why they call her Iron Man I don't know?

So the Marvel Implosion! Good job that Editor in Chief  Alex Alonso did. I am pretty sure his days as editor in chief of Marvel are numbered.

Here is a question... How much of this is purely Marvel and how much of this is the parent corporation of Disney affecting some of these choices in diversifying the characters as a business strategem.   Clearly, Marvel and/or Disney see it as a way to expand readership outside of the traditional white male readership category.

I know my reasons for stopping purchasing new comics are:

    1.  Too many re-boots, just can't keep up with it anymore.  Maybe that would be different if some of my other reasons didn't exist.

    2.  Don't care for the artwork.  I find most of the modern books to have unappealing artwork versus my personal taste.

    3.  Stories aren't interesting to me

    4.  Cost,  I would rather buy an older book versus 4 to 5 new books

And if it is a good story you want to read but not collect, digital FTW.

  8. That I own...Probably Dark Knight Returns 1 signed by Frank Miller (waiting on the grade). I just got it at C2E2... hoping it comes back a 9.8 or 9.6.  Also Sandman 1 9.8.

But the one I want the most is TMNT #1 in at least a 9.0.  I think a 9.8 is out my range but maybe a 9.4 or 9.0.

After that probably Preacher 1 in a 9.8 signed by Ennis and Dillon.

Saga 1 signed in 9.8 signed by Vaughn and staples

walking dead 1 9.8 signed by Kirkman

Very nice pick up on the Preacher 8 CGC 9.8.  I've submitted 4 copies and gotten 1 9.8, 1 9.6 and 2 failed the prescreening.  The dark cover seems to be tough to find in 9.8 so I definitely would buy at the $40-$50 mark.

Yeah I was surprised it only went for $40... Although must say, can't figure out WHY the label for #8 doesn't list it as the first full appearance of Jody, TC and Grandma.  Can't remember if Mom and Dad Custer were in that or Issue 9, but still those are pretty big characters in the series.

For your pre-screening, what is your cutoff mark?  9.4?

I always thought Darkhawk was cool.Would love to see him in a movie, even if I had none of the comics he was in.

Oh for sure...I loved the comic when I was younger...

I actually have like 4-5 copies of the #1 in 9.4-9.8 condition... I got them when the comic first came out...  I was actually surprised at how much of the series I owned.

Considering getting them Slabbed... the slab cost right now is pretty decent... after the action figure came out for Darkhawk and Guardians of the Galaxy, there is a lot of speculation he will turn up int he movies sometime soon... I'm guessing post Avengers 3... maybe as part of Avengers 4 or Guardians 3.   Be awesome if that happened.
