  1. China has greatly curtailed the pandemic by literally locking down vast areas of the country, it took 4 months and that's with thousands of deaths and extreme measures

Italy and Spain are in almost total shutdown

The uk expects this to last until spring 2021

The shutdowns in the USA are to SLOW  the pandemic, not end it

The chance of anything other then a small local show going on until summer are near 0

What scares me most is what happened to an earlier poster, The dealer s came in set up only to to

    have the show shut down

  2. CDC RECOMMENDS AGAINST GATHERINGS OF 50 OR MORE

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/when-will-sports-coronavirus-shutdown-end-experts-say-months-not-weeks-unless/ar-BB11eJyK?ocid=spartanntp

Centers for Disease Control suggested, in fact, the shutdown would last much longer. The CDC recommended “that for the next 8 weeks, organizers cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States.”

    https://www.npr.org/2020/03/15/816245252/cdc-recommends-suspending-gatherings-of-50-or-more-people-for-the-next-8-weeks

Be careful even if you attending a smaller show,  especially if live with or plan to visit an elderly or high risk person

  3.

That is a hard beat for sure

Thankfully ace boston And east Coast had the foresight to cancel early

I have 2 coming up that I am sure will be cancelled, but  the promoters are holding on ….

What you just posted made me nervous and I may just cancel on my own

my thoughts are early June before we begin to return to normal

  4.  Thanks to Crucial Entertainment and the promoters of East Coast Comicon

I believe they have Accuretly assessed the situation and proactively moved their show from mid May to july 4th weekend

Thank you for not waiting till the last minute and allowing

Everyone to make alternate plans, I love this show and am looking forward to it immensely

At this point every reliable source is saying that  the next 2 months will be brutal, but by summer we should be somewhat back to normal

I think Every promoter with a show  coming through the end of may  should seriously consider similar actions

I realize the logistical difficulties of such actions, However I believe that states such as NY and CA  which have already

temporarily halted large gatherings will soon be followed quickly by many others

I also think that the "fear factor" will have sufficiently dissipated by june  so attendance will be somewhat normal

    Steve

    Golden memories

  5. The point is now moot

All shows for at least the next 3 months will have to be cancelled

I am 61 and this is my business and my pleasure as well

The shows to me are both business and a social  event

I was greatly looking forward to Boston when Ace shut it down, as  they had no choice

Since Tom Hanks got covid can you picture any Celeberity or Star comitting to a mass attendance event for the foreseeable future?

         Speaking of which

We are  at the very beginning of a massive pandemic , We have absolutely no idea how many people in this country are infected because testing has been absolutely minimal  it is almost certainly multiples of what is being reported , the nonsense that "OLD" people get it (me) is a myth Old people (me) are most vulnerable, but that does not mean if you are 20 you are free. This is a nasty MUTATING virus with no cure .

The states one by one will continue  to limit event sizes thus making this discussion moot, NYC and CA have for the time being made holding any show impossible.  In fact NYC is all but shut down.  There may soon even be limits on interstate travel (trump)

and isolation zones (already in NY)

Lets say a promoter decides to hold a show next week , who's going to come? half the country is scared to death, Many of the dealers wont show  a large percentage of the 50+crowd wont either , would a successful artist or actor put themselves in the middle of a large crowd now, I doubt it.

What you will have is a shell of a show with a few hundred people

Again I was willing to risk going to Boston, But  I understand why they had to cancel

Coming soon are some of my most profitable and pleasurable shows,

But I have accepted the fact they are almost certainly going to be cancelled,

This is  not the promoters fault

Fortunatelly I have the resources to weather the storm, but I know many dealers including friends who do not

We need to accept the fact the spring is lost at this point and persue other options

IF we as a country are lucky,  this virus thrives in cold weather  only, and  we MAY get the summer back ,

Please do not blame the promoters, dealers, guests, or attendees for something that is out of their control

I hope to see many of you  at  East Coast, Terrifficon, Awesome con etc.  If not this year, then the next

And remember about covid, they know something we don't !

  6. They have already cancelled :

    Hey Gang,

Yesterday, a State of Emergency was called in Massachusetts, and after many hours of consultation with the BCEC, a city-owned facility, it was determined that running the event at its regularly scheduled date/time is not possible due to "force majeure." We are working with the BCEC to reschedule the event, and we will do our best to bring ACE Comic Con Northeast back to Boston Strong!

We feel for anyone and everyone affected by the COVID-19 virus. Stakeholders in events like these include the Exhibitors, Artists, fans, hotel employees, airline workers, city and state officials, security firms, car services, caterers, union workers and hundreds of hundreds of workers that put months and months of sweat and hard work into pulling these events off, our own staff included. We hope everyone stays safe and healthy, and to those already ill, we wish a speedy recovery.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. ACE Comic Con remains committed to its next event scheduled at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center on October 16-18, 2020. Please be understanding when posting on social media. Kindness in these times is invaluable.

Thank you and see you in October!

  7. At this point it no longer matters if a show goes off or not

Tom Hanks Has contracted Covid, That's going to scare the s*** out of Hollywood

and Its likely the stars will start cancelling sooner rather then later

further the attendance will be abysmal as a very large percentage of potential attendees are simply going to avoid large crowds

Ironically MY Costco and BJ's are Jam packed and insane, with some aisles packed end to end.   meanwhile  vehicle traffic is half what it should be, except at supermarkets and big box stores where it is demolition derby day

citizens are going to be cocooning for a while , while this MAY burn out by summer, any spring show unfortunately  is a non starter . Speaking  personally I sell golden age and most of my customers are 30+ , the age group being told to stay home

This is extremelly disappointing to me as I was looking forward to Ace Boston and had booked a non refundable hotel . also 2 of my favorite shows are coming soon I am afraid I going to miss the

  8.   Again

The purpose of this thread was to make my fellow collectors and dealers aware of some basic safety measures

NOT to tell anyone to stay home or to panic, exactly the opposite ,

I was all packed and ready when Ace comicon cancelled their show in Boston and plan on attending any show this season which has not been cancelled

I usually avoid responding when the thread gets out of control   or sidetracked , but this thread contains a lot of mis-information which may harm my fellow collectors. I generally ignore anything from any major news outlets as designed to put forth a particular agenda. I have been following this VERY closely from the beginning from a myriad of sources back when they told this this came from Bat-soup and we had nothing to worry about as transmission was extremely difficult.

so here are some of whAt I believe to be credible facts. interept them as you wish :

    1) There is something someone knows that we do not, at least a dozen Medical conventions  alone across the country have been cancelled   here is list of event cancellations which represent BILLIONS of $$$ in lost revenue including the NBA season https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=nba+cancels+season&view=detail&mid=E4C4A5B9686ABD3F5401E4C4A5B9686ABD3F5401&FORM=VIRE and the country of Italy https://time.com/5801497/italy-shops-restaurants-coronavirus/

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/03/05/coronavirus-update-list-canceled-events/4950641002/

are all these entities in a state of panic  or stupid?

    2) No one knows how many cases there actually are in this country because testing has been so sparse, The mayor of NY has stated he can no longer provide numbers as the case numbers seem to change so fast ONE SINGLE PERSON IN NY HAS BEEN DEEMED TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR 50+ cases so far. This person was a professional middle aged attorney so one would assume he washed his hands regularly

    3)  I live in NYC where people over 60 have been advised to stay home as much as possible

    4) This is not the flu, this is serious virus whose effects are still not completely known with the exception of the following

         1) This is a mutating virus, there are at the moment 2 known strains

          2) It can re-ocour after a person is seemingly cured

          3) It is very easily transmissible

         4) The Mortality rate seems to be  around 3-4% with 127k cases worldwide and 4,700 deaths . this is centered mainly in seniors , older men and immune compromised persons Generally the younger you are the less chance of a fatal case, from near 0 in children to about 8-9% in the +75 group This does not mean that the younger group is immune, the biggest danger is that a young person can contract the illness , have no symptoms then go home to to or visit a more vulnerable recipient

    5) The national Guard has already been called up in my state to establish a containment zone .

    https://www.mcall.com/coronavirus/ct-nw-grand-princess-cruise-ship-coronavirus-20200310-el52tmurrjbshnzs6l3toz5rhi-story.html

So again THESE PEOPLE KNOW SOMETHING WE DO NOT KNOW

I am not urging anyone to go home and hide under their beds or to run out and buy hundreds of rolls of toilet paper

(whats  up with that?) Personally even though I am 60+ I will be setting up at any event which is held and urge my fellow collectors to attend but to be safe and carefull

Unfortunately I see this year as a write-off as I cannot at this point see any municipality allowing a mass attendance but I can adapt

    Facing facts is not panicing

  9. That was  pretty much my point

Looks like c2e2 my be one of the last mass attended show for a few months  It is now the stated policy that  people, and NOT just the elderly should  avoid  Large gatherings The latest from Boston is that one single medium sized conference with the Ominous name  BIOGEN is by itself responsible for dozens of new cases

    https://www.bostonglobe.com/

The city has more or less shut down and colleges have gone teleconference

I think we will sadly see a series of con cancellations throughout the spring

  10.

NoBody is starting a panic, I was just stating facts and trying to provide some safety tips

Emerald city was Just Cancelled and reed knows what they are doing

They virtually had  to as almost all of the major guests bailed , why do you think they did that

Corona is more the a flu and more contagious I just did c2e2 and myself and my friend BOTH returned with a slammin case of the flu  Convention centers are incubators , and I just wanted  to provide some insight

I am not going to quote figures and statistics Just note the following

MAJOR CONVENTIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY HAVE BEEN CANCELLED

cities in china have become Ghost towns

    Italy has virtually shut down

SF and San Diego are in states of emergency

None of these people are stupid, maybe they are being overly cautious , maybe not

But again this is far more dangerous then the flu

People between 18 and 50 who have strong immune systems are at minimal risk of dying but not of catching some form of the virus which has so far mutated into 2 distinct forms

I myself will be following my planned  schedule this year and will be going to ace Boston in 2 weeks

    So again, some safety tips

Wash your hand as frequently as possible, and use hand sanitizer

Try to avoid touching you face

When using public restrooms , carry a small  spray bottle, and spray and cover the seat

If they flushs are manual don't touch directly, use a paper towel

Wash with hot water and soap

         Bring your own food

DO  NOT BRING KIDS,  ESPECIALLY INFANTS INTO ANY CONVENTION CENTER

           They are especially vulnerable

Don't order any food anywhere which is kept out in the  open like popcorn , pizza etc .

The death toll (that we know of) is minimal, but that does not mean catching this is fun

It lives in your respritory system and can cause permanent damage and even re-infect once you believe you are cured

Do what you have to, but be smart and be safe

I look forward to seeing my friends and fellow dealers in Boston

  11. Its a shame , But I cant see the city allowing a show that usually draws close to 100k people to take place

we now know this spreads VERY easily.

    On a side note

the business conference that was to take place at Mccormick  the last week of March

which was usually the c2e2 date

    Has been officially cancelled

My concern at this point is going forward

I have Ace Boston in 2 weeks  and going forward a full schedule this year

Most of California is officially under a state of emergency

    Including SF and San Diego

At this point I think that any city that reports more then a couple of cases is going to go into lockdown '

  12. Many dealers including Myself  were upset that c2e2 was scheduled at the end of February

Well guess what?  : the business conference that was to take place at Mccormick  the last week of March

which was usually the c2e2 date

    Has been officially cancelled

    Some luck there

  13.  Be aware many cities are in a hyper cautious mode, and even though covid has a very minimal spread at this point

Many are exercising extreme methods of control, already three major convention cities have declared states of emergency

Make sure to check and verify travel restrictions if any before you set out, the situation is fluid and subject to rapid change

Seattle has declared a civil emergency

which among other things allows for public events to be shut down

"As the death toll climbed Tuesday, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan, a , proclaimed a civil emergency. The declaration allows her to bypass regulations to increase city spending, contracting and borrowing to address the growing public health threat. It will also allow her office to close facilities and cancel events to prevent the virus from spreading further."

    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/seattle-ghost-town-residents-face-uncertainty-growing-coronavirus-outbreak-n1148941

In addition Travelers this convention season should be aware that both San Francisco and San Diego have declared a State of Emergency as well

  16. To Answer the question

NY is an exhausting show, it is six days including setup + a seventh day (the day after) Where I Just  sleep the whole day

So I just Did NY, I will have one Day prep time , Then a 900 mile drive to Chicago and back, two days rest , Then Baltimore

That's a VERY tough schedule, which is why it makes a difference that NY was the week before .

      Still looking forward to it,

It does look like an awesome show
