Perhaps because there seems to be a boat load of them coming to market.
yeah there are really tons right now. heritage has around seven hundred in the current auction ending in two weeks. that can't help the market.

Sold for 67 000$ seems pretty cheap for no MC compared to what similar 7.0's have sold for recently.
yeah, disappointingly low for many of us. now, all the AF15 "bubble" folks will say i told you so in this and the other AF15 thread.

Fear the Walking dead is better ... i head they're going to crossover with WD eventually
this is the real point. (not the quality of fear the walking dead) when walking dead is no longer on the air, some spinoff, sequel or prequel will still be on the air. the franchise is unlikely to ever disappear. ditto for game of thrones. of course GOT is a whole other level of writing, but the same principle applies. the studios have a huge franchise, they will never let it die.

At worst, I might get the attention of another bidder (if it's legit). At best, I'll save myself the potential headache (if it's a fraud/resto).
I'm not good at spotting resto, but I'm wondering what you guys think of this book? The seller's name didn't pop up in the eBay thread, but the fact that it's a big book at a currently low price makes me leery. The fact that it only has 10 bids, of which 4 are from the same user makes me curious if someone is shill bidding just to get the price up. I sent a message asking if the book was restored and was told by the seller that it wasn't, but it's always best to be cautious. So what say the community? From the few spotty images, is there anything that jumps out as resto or would this be worth bidding on?
never buy raw books on ebay unless you know the seller, in which case, why would you use ebay? buying raw there is like begging to get a raw deal. that's what cons and LBS are for.

it would have been nice if it started at noon or 1pm friday instead of 4pm. perhaps in the future, something you guys might consider.

incredible sales thread! seems rare lately to see such great silver age keys in one thread--

Yep, HG copies like that sell far and few between. It was the ramp up in low-mid grade prices this year that caused folks to take notice because those books are fairly common, especially right now given the prices spikes from earlier this year. My earlier post containing this image is kaput due to photobucket's greed, but here's what the comparison between AF 15 price action (on the left) and Hulk 1 price action (on the right) was as of the beginning of June. You can see when the AF15 low-mid grade population took off, and what happened to Hulk 1 copies in the years after it happened to that book.
that's some real food for thought, esp considering that GPA doesn't even have close to accurate info on many AF15 sales prices like CL. i'm not saying AF15 pricing won't plateau for awhile, but the real question is, is spiderman comparable to hulk as a pop culture figure? my cousin in law in japan, when i asked who is the most famous superhero there, said spiderman. not batman. demand is probably much higher for him and perhaps always likely to be.

You may want to try this site: http://comics.gpanalysis.com
Also useful (and free with site registration) are the archives at ha.com.
if you're mainly interested in prices for AF15, then save your money and don't bother with GPA. they don't have any results from important private sales over the last year, nor do they have comiclink auction results, which are also significantly higher over the last year. in fact, GPA for this book in most grades is off by 50-100%.
and add comliclink to your places to search, along with comicconnect, heritage, and ebay.

We're going to see a TON of Wonder Women costumes for the girls. Probably a TON of Spidermans and Captain Americas. I wonder if we'll see any little kids in Deadpool outfits?
i agree with this. by the way, my 3 year old is going as batman, and his friend from preschool is also going as batman. so the dark knight still seems to stay near the top of the list along with these others. but i'm sure in a few years, he'll wanna be deadpool, or preferably wolverine, if i have any sway. he loves spidey too. batman and spidey all day for him at this age. helps that there are kids books featuring those characters. if we start seeing deadpool books for 3 year olds, then we'll really know he's fully mainstream!

choice architecture tells us that people buy more stuff when it's at eye level. i'd have put the hulk 1s on the top row and maybe the xmen 1s also, if i wanted to sell them. either way, an insane wall of phenomenal books!

i'll take it!!! can i pay more? it's gotta be worth at least 12.000

What if the book is a 5.0 sitting in a 4.0 holder?
sure, but (A) you can't even see the back, and (B) there was a nearly identical looking 4.0 auctioned about 2 weeks prior for just over 4k. hence, my surprise. they've had quite a few nice 4.0 TOS 39s on CL the last year. this is still a big leap in price over any of them. how many times has CGC been a whole grade off?

This is a common one: https://collectinsure.com/
thanks for the info on this! i contacted them, and they offer a policy that covers the collection when it is in my possession, at the bank box, AND IN TRANSIT TO ME OR FROM ME. this is pretty awesome. a collection worth around 50k would cost about $300 per year. probably going to do this.

I'm finally done with my PO Box. It was like Sanford & Son in there. Some packages were marked delivered before I got them, others were not. They lost packages they were holding for my PO Box several times a year only to find them once I started a claim.
I finally went with a local UPS mailbox. The local franchise is 1 mile from my house, is open earlier and closes later than USPS. Also, if I am picking up a package, I can park, get my packages, and come back to the car before the radio plays a new song. Usually I wait at the Post Office 10-45 minutes to pick up packages from my PO Box. I was afraid to get a UPS mailbox because of cost but the local franchise only charges 30% more than a PO Box. I also get an e-mail when packages arrive. No waiting behind someone getting a passport either when there are only 2 tellers and no air conditioning.
how does a UPS mailbox work? wouldn't your mail carrier still have to deliver the package to your UPS box? or do you have people send packages via UPS? sorry if this is a dumb question.

thanks for the tip, but when i google collectors insurance, nothing exactly matching that comes up. lots of ads, and other sites with different names. is it americancollectors.com? that looks like it's for cars only. do you know the website? thanks again-

181 is the cornerstone of the BA. People have been predicting its demise for years and it has not happened yet. All the dealers I met at NYCC this past week were very nice to me when I told them I was considering selling or trading a copy. They all said it is one book they can never get enough of.
So many other books and possibly a good chunk of comic collecting world would need to collapse for 181 not to remain valuable regardless of the number of copies. The whole idea that there are too many copies is also somewhat of a misnomer. Yes, there are likely a few hoarders of this book around and many raw copies remain. But as more and better copies have come to market the demand has easily absorbed the new books despite the high census numer. Even if 200 new unknown books hit the market it is still only a small fraction of the known copies. The demand remains large, and Wolverine is a will remain Marvel's number two character.
Not saying there may not be a correction at some point. But it would take a massive across the board crash to significantly devalue this book.
i couldn't agree more. just got my second copy. got a 9.0 WP 3 years ago, and have watched that increase in value 33% so far. just bought a 8.5 WP for my second copy. want more too!
