  1. ok so the princess was supposed to be what, 16? so now she'd be 26. milly alcock can certainly pass for that. she's 22 or 23 in real life.
  2. i'm sorry but the recasting is absolutely ridiculous and so random. what, sir cristin can look exactly the same however many years later, but the princess is a completely different person who bares no resemblance to the actress who played her last week/? the queen looks slightly older. shes played as if she is actually a different person. its such a bonehead move. i'm really baffled and disappointed. milly alcock (is that her name?) was the core of the whole show. oh yeah, and they kept setting up that the king is near death for 4 episodes. guess he got lucky and is still around ten years later?! ugh.
  3. you are mixing up your premiums here- heritage auctions charges a SELLER'S PREMIUM that is negotiable if you are considering listing high value books. the BUYER'S PREMIUM to which i am referring, is paid by all buyers, to heritage. it is 20% on all books and it is NON-NEGOTIABLE. sellers receive what the book sold for minus the 20 per cent BP and whatever SP they negotiated in advance.
  4. this person needed asm1 in 9.0 to complete the entire Ditko asm run in 9.0, not including AF15, but all the other 38 books. a very impressive collection.
  5. by the way, for those wondering if this was a real sale, i know the buyer. that's not to say it was not shilled, it probably was to a point. but it was bought by a real person who does not work for CC or Metropolish.
  6. when there is a 15% buyers commission on CC, it does not mean that it goes directly to the buyer, does it? i know that's been CC's reply as to why in the last year or two more than half their books suddenly have a BP on them, but it's not believable. that's money out of the auction house's pocket if the BP is going directly to the seller. nearly impossible to believe that they are okay with letting most sellers do that, especially on garbage books like a low grade reprint book. the 20 per cent BP on heritage does not go to the seller, it goes to the house, obviously.
  7. the key word in that story is "reportedly." hopefully it's not true.
  8. i'm not sure what your grounds for complaint are- since we seem to be in agreement that many key book auction results are "gamed," who benefits more than dealers? every time a new high is recorded on gpa from halperage or metropolis (i mean CC) you can then list and possibly sell your copy for an even higher price. the only ones getting hosed here are the customers imho. sorry you have to deal with us trying to haggle.
  9. it's probably safe to say that the majority of us are here because we love comics and loved them as a kid, not because we're investors. in this case, @shadrochpaints the sad story of someone who invested literally hundreds of thousands of dollars over his entire lifetime in a hobby that he loved, spent countless hours hand painting items in the collection, etc, and now that he's 72 and decided that it's time to part with it, it's virtually worthless, especially in the way it was sold. he didn't do it for the money, and i'm sure he enjoyed his time tending the collection over the years. but it's still depressing as heck. if, at the end of a lifetime of collecting comics, when you decide to sell them, and hopefully give the money to your grandkids, and they are worth less than five or ten per cent of what you spent on them, you're either too rich to care, or you've made some bad decisions with your money. it's one thing to have a hobby you love all your life, and casually pursue for pleasure. it's quite another to spend a couple hundred k on something with no thought to the wisdom of such an expenditure. thank goodness i am diversified. in addition to my comics, i collect Jai Alai cards from the 1979. can't get more popular than that!
  10. this was from THE ONION, was it not?
  11. +1 truer words were never spoken about all auction houses and websites.
  12. i don't know if using ebay sales data is that solid. i've sold books there in the past that buyers never paid for. if i did not relist the book, the sale often showed up on gpa and stayed there. not to mention all the shill sales that occur there too for exactly this purpose. of course it appears that all auction houses also have shilling to one extent or another.
  13. the good news is that the cost for getting into an AF15 2.0 or 3.0 is coming down from where it was 6-12 months ago. the bad news is that you will get less for your copy too, should you choose to sell it. i agree with @The lips that AF15 is more important to own than asm1, but i also understand why such a beat up copy would bug you. it's always a dilemma when the market is down- big books get more affordable, but we get less for what we need to sell or trade to make it happen.
  14. here's my triumvirate of white page big boys, who now all live in a bank box together. pardon the cruddy bank lighting.
  15. thanks to @SpideyFein for this amazing asm3 8.5 with the very tough to get white pages! this is not the best pic, i shot it with my phone, but you get the idea. it's perfectly centered which matters to me too.
  16. just did a huge deal with Dan- everything was smooth and his packing was superbly secure. i look forward to more deals in the future- thanks Dan!
  17. dont use hotels.com! it's a scam! i used them earlier this year and stayed at some garbagey motel that had gotten a 4.5 review there based on hundreds of reviews. well, i was eager to let people know that this supposedly good hotel is next the the freakin freeway and you'll be awake all night, but alas, customers cannot leave reviews on hotels.com. where did that mysterious great rating come from then? not from anyone who stayed there! try expedia or any other site than hotels.com. total garbage website.
  18. thanks @Senormac! here's a better pic of the piece that you have framed. I'm glad you are enjoying it! It's an antique photo that i painted over, several years ago. I called it "Marvel Heroes" although there are a few characters who don't belong in there, as you can see. The original must have been some kind of college class photo. I have a great one of a women's volleyball team that is so cool I don't know if i can paint over it.
  19. or lets go back to talking about politics! i dont like that guy who is in charge of ________ and i can't believe anyone else likes him!
