While I agree there is absolutely no real connection to the 80s GI Joe which became super popular, there does seem to be a connection amongst the title and all. Either way I do find its a cool book that had the GI Joe moniker. I guess I was thinking along the lines of how Brave and the Bold 25 is viewed as first suicide squad when the suicide squad that is almost universally used is a completely different story and detached from the brave and the bold book in almost every facet.

Hi, Was wondering if anyone could shine some light on GI Joe 10 done by Ziff Davis. I think I may have found a copy in a collection awhile back. So this was the first issue due to some weird numbering system but does anyone know if its the first appearance of GI Joe? If it is the first appearance, any reason value of the book doesn't seem to be that high? Seems like a huge key to me. Also any other information people want to share would be awesome to hear.

My mom says Im cool.

I was referring to main villains who most people have a decent level of knowledge. No disrespect to Moth and Firefly but they are hardly the names that the mass public has heard of. Mr. Freeze on the other hand while not A list is comfortably in the second tier of batman villains if not in the first tier.

Im a little biased since I have a solid 5.5 copy but I think the value of this book is due to 1. Being a true first appearance (not a first SA appearance). 2. Being a lot older than the next big first appearance (Poison Ivy). 3. Being priced as a semi-golden age key (first appearances of major Batman villains in the golden age are through the roof) and Freeze doesn't miss the cutoff by much and while not as rare as first riddler is still infinitely rarer than any other Batman rogue first appearance in the silver age. Put all those together and I think valuations are fair in that its still much cheaper than say a first riddler from the golden age but still far more expensive than a first Poison Ivy.

I think Superboy 68 is primed.

I think so. A 2.5 sold in auction on ebay for under $10K. But on the flipside, 2 different copies of Showcase 4 with the top 1/3rd of the front cover cut off and issues on the bottom sold for $3K and $4600 and those books are likely 0.5 copies. So the floor seems to be going up but the lower grade copies don't seem to appreciate that much per grade point.

Big key collecting question...Would you rather
Rezin1234 replied to UncleAnwar's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
The other three books. FF1 is great but TTA27 and TOS39 are quite rare too. Don't care much for Avengers 1. Rather swap that for a big Xmen or ASM book -
If there is an xforce movie does that mean my 200 copies of Xforce 1 will be worth something

Definitely well put. I think ASM300 is the safest for not only being a hugely popular new character, but also being part of the beloved asm line and to top it all off its literally the defining art of Todd Mc who has a massive following. Asm300 has so much going for it that even if it wasn't a first appearance it could be highly valuable similar to batman 251. IM55 is risky for sure but NM98 might be equally as vulnerable, 1. NM98 has a much higher print run with tons of copies over 9.0 2. Deadpool 2 might suck 3. There might be a huge backlash from oversaturation for Deadpool where people get tired of the schtick. But for right now yeah IM55 is prob the riskiest of the 3.

That's because Ultron was a weak villain that got spanked hard by vision even. Avengers 2 was just weak and people hyping ultron is quite rare. While IM55 may tank, Thanos is up there with the best baddies Marvel has to offer. Plus IM55 is the first appearance of Drax as well who will likely continue on.

20-25% is not a bubble bursting. Its a correction and while no one ever wants to buy something at the top, it is far from mass hysteria with everyone trying to dump their copy for a fraction of the price. Buying asm300 for $1K and 6 months later you can only get $800 stings but it didn't go to a fraction of the price like what happens when a bubble bursts. Spawn 1 is a great example of a bubble bursting. Went from $100 book to dollar bin drek for the longest time. That burst. The books mentioned have been hot and at some point could cool off in which case someone likely overpaid, happens in everything that gets hot. Someone always overpays,

No you have to enter it at the bottom where it says coupon at checkout. Make sure you don't buy it now but put it in your cart then go to checkout and enter the code to get the discount.

Silver age comics that are heating up
Rezin1234 replied to rabidwolf's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Batman 121 seems to be heating up a 5.5 just sold for $3500 and a higher grade raw sold last week for almost $9K on ebay -
Just bought a 4.0 Flash 106. $100 off was huge

Which is the bigger key and why?
Rezin1234 replied to Getoutandstayout's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Wouldn't you be implying xmen 94 is responsible for all that? Gsx1 was basically a bridge but 94 is the first issue of the series that as you argue fleshed out wolverine to its fullest. GSX 1 predates xmen 94 but really 94 is where it all truly began -

You and me both. I got a superman 30 and don't have asm 3 or 4. And I'm very happy with my decision -

Difference is, every single collector wants a Hulk 181. Not every single collector wants an asm4. While you and me may see the better value in asm4, sandman really isn't in the must have state of a hulk 181. Similarly, you can look up superman 30 which is the first appearance of mr. mxy and see its worth far less than asm 3 first doc octopus, even though on the scarcity scale superman 30 is much rarer. -
Just got this beauty. Superboy 10 First appearance of Lana Lang. Always loved the character and price surprisingly wasn't too high.
