  1. Splash page from Alan Moore’s Tom Strong #21 by Jerry Ordway and Richard Friend
  2. Same here. I recently reorganised the collection and have bought more art in the last few weeks than in the last few year. Partly as a result of some recent lifestyle changes for the better, but also due to having more time to spend at home.
  3. Issue #0, page 15 Written by Grant Morrison. Beautifully illustrated by J.H. Williams III in a Western style that almost looks like something out of Blueberry by Jean Giraud (Moebius). I’ll be sorry to see it go. £299 British pounds or $349 USD Shipping is free to the UK. International shipping additional $50. Payment via Paypal. Price includes PayPal charge for payment for goods and services. Feel free to message me with any queries.
  4. You’re quite right. I did wait until now to make sure my income supports it. Wrong choice of word ... perhaps I should have said ‘crossed a mental barrier’ or ‘threshold’. That said, I’m not entirely sure I’m not risking trouble ;-p
  5. Moebius - clean, assured lines Jack Kirby - unique abstraction of the human figure Tradd Moore = Moebius + Kirby + an X-Factor
  6. So I feel I’ve crossed something of a rubicon in my comic art collecting. I’ve still not bought a singular piece of art that’s over $1,000. BUT, over the last week and half, I’ve spent nearly $1,500 buying two pieces that I had been pining after on dealer sites for some three years. I know this is a paltry sum in the comic art hobby. But it feels like a HUGE deal to me. Also, I came THIS close to bidding on some Kirby art in then recent Heritage Auction.
  7. Okay, so this looks AMAZING next to my Corona home office! I can see what all the fuss with splash pages and covers is all about. Thinking of going full Donnelly Bros on this now, and adding trade dress and pretending this is an alternative cover.
  8. Latest addition to my Alan Moore collection. Tom Strong #21 page 14, pencilled by Jerry Ordway and inked by Richard Friend. https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1628236 When I got into collecting original comic art a few years ago, I said to myself that I only want panel pages. That’s where the real execution of skill in the comic medium lay. And yet, here I am with my last two purchases being splash pages. In my defence however, I did get really good deals on these. At least I think so. Also, this page features a whole heap of characters from America’s Best Comics alternate universe, including Promethea, Splash Brannigan, Cobweb and, my favourite, The Pangaean.
  9. That’s the stuff of nightmares. Hmm
  10. You two look good together. Nice one Alex. Interesting article. For what it matters I don’t think there is that stigma around comics anymore. I buy my little cousins, boys and girls, comics and manga all the time. But maybe I’m a little biased as I write and draw comics (as a side gig) and it’s normalised for everyone around me.
  11. This the first thing a girl sees when she walks into my humble studio apartment. So if she later complains then I’d probably be like ...
  12. So what you’re saying is that I should get all my buying done now before I have to settle down with a significant other?
  13. I was wondering if anyone has, or even seen, any original art from these Alan Moore DRAWN strips. Or is the original art for these sitting in a cupboard in Moore’s house somewhere. Or has it perhaps been used up to ...
  14. Uh ... so turns out breaking my vow of abstinence and buying that cheap page some weeks back may in fact have opened up the floodgates. Just won an auction for the most I’ve ever paid for a piece of comic art. My hands were shaking when the auction ended. Felt like I was going to throw up. And despite all this, I still think I got the page for a bargain. And now I’m on Heritage looking up future auctions. Somebody hit me in the back of head with a baseball bat and stop me already.
  15. @filmboyuk you hit the nail exactly on the head. This has happened to me before; so I was concerned how Heritage treats descriptions on customs form. I know how you feel being impatient to get the art in hand. Thanks again for your advice.
  16. @filmboyuk thanks for this. Would you be able to tell me what description Heritage put on the postage/customs form so that UK customs know to apply the correct charge. Unfortunately I don’t have any US friends that I have the packages sent to
  17. I was wondering if there are any UK based OA collectors here that have bought art at auctions from US based auction houses like Heritage/Comic Link/Comic Connect. If so would you be able to give any advice on custom and tax charges that the UK revenue and customs will apply. I understand that VAT on comic book is 0% whereas VAT on art is 5%. I’m not sure what OA will be treated as or if it will be treated differently as a collectible. I was also wondering what postage these auction houses will charge and how long it takes to receive the item. Any help from those here based in UK who have bought art from these auction houses would be much appreciated. Many thanks
  18. @comics4all Thanks dude. Did have pillows, but ...
  19. @ADAMANTIUM not quite giclee quality, but it is a print on canvas.
  20. Small additions to my studio apartment. I didn’t previously show the bedroom area of the studio as it was pretty bland. But being locked in here for weeks on end, felt I needed to add some colour and spice to the wall. Also, got a few keys in the mail last week.
  21. I’d say X-Men 9 (first meeting of the X-Men and the Avengers) in a very affordable Silver Age key considering these two teams will more than likely be going up against each other in the future MCU.
  22. I’m not sure we can place much importance to this article. It’s written by a dealer in collectibles, quoting an auction house for collectibles. Both very biased to propping up the immunity of collectibles market in recessions. Are you saying that collectibles comic market will not go down during this recession and are you HOPING that sellers don’t panic and bring it down?
  23. What I wouldn’t give to have found comic art in the mid 2000s. I really only found it in 2016-17, right when prices want kablooey!
  24. Fortunately I like Kirby later 70s work inked by Royer which seems to a little more affordable. I was looking to spend $2000 to $3000. But I think I’ll hold off on that for now, at least until the world goes back to some version of normal.
