  1. First, figure out what artists you would like to have do the work. Then, you need to find out how to reach them. Some have reps, some have websites, some post on Facebook, some can be found elsewhere like Tumblir or Instagram, and some just don’t have any interest in doing commissions or have a waiting list of people who are ahead of you. This Board is an excellent source of that information by the way. Then, see if the names you pick come up with any negatives, That is, they take your money but don’t produce. There are very few of them, but they do exist. Then, find out what they charge, if they will even do a blank cover (some dislike the paper to draw on), and describe what you want. Many will not do porn, by the way, and some do not like to do recreation covers, for example (they are artists, not photocopiers, so if you have something like that in mind, they may want to do it their own way.) Get a schedule, if possible, but don’t count on it being rigorously met. Find out if they want upfront money (some do, some don’t, some want part). If you pay in advance, and use PayPal, Do Not use Friends and Family in case something goes wrong. That preserves your right to some better recourse. And if you like it, thank them fully. Artwork is a personal matter, and a good artist appreciates it when his customer likes the result.
  2. I just assumed he had it made himself, and didn’t want to get accused of doing something wrong.
  3. There is another intellectual property type dispute involving the sale of misleading products that appear similar and which may not be out and out use of someone else’s copyrighted product. It is part of the Latham Act, which you can find on Wikipedia (skip the legalities), You can also get sued for misappropriating a products “trade dress”.
  4. Wow. Any idea what the “corona” was in the story?
  5. What I am seeing, however, is some discounting by artists for commissions and artists who don't generally don't do them looking for work. I have mixed feelings about accepting a discounted price from an artist Everyone likes a bargain, but I don't want to feel that someone is shortchanging themselves, or they may be producing substandard work because of it.
  6. On Facebook, there is at least one Group specializing in commissions. Also, many artists have their own websites, like Tom Mandrake. You can always drop them a line if you have a specific one or ones in mind. There is also an “At Home Commission Opportunities” Event on Facebook listing quite a few artists looking for work.
  7. Considering your fondness for the characters, do you have a wall with family portraits on it?
  8. In keeping with the times, anyone have some OA to show involving pandemics, major group infections or other group sicknesses? Extra credit if they bear any relation to this reality.
  9. That is how it is listed in the Marvel database (with Miller as pencilled).
  10. I’ve also had a few warnings about discussing political issues, so I would prefer to stay away.
  11. On this Board? Or the other comic book boards?
  12. I think the level of intelligence and general knowledge is quite high on this Board, but to be candid, I would rather come here and escape the serious stuff.
  13. Don't know, but I respect your priorities. Can anyone identify the art?
  14. If I saw a piece I really liked, I doubt I would hold back if the price were reasonable. But, I won't go out and buy something I'm so-so on, just because I have "the itch" unless there was one helluva discount.
  15. Anyone let Heritage know? Preferably before the sale goes through.
  16. I have heard that said, and it must be true in some cases. But, there are also pages I have watched on line and which are also at shows carrying the same price. At shows, I mostly go looking for what artists themselves are selling since they probably don’t have it on-line, as well as some dealers/sellers who don’t have much, if anything, on-line.
  17. There are ways to address that problem, which can be difficult. One way, for example, is to set the first picture at the level you want it. Then, using a long level, mark points on the wall which maintain the correct height (the level keeps your hand and the height of the points level). When you have enough points on the wall, run the masking tape to the end. That gives you a straight line. Then tap in your holes, calculating the space between each picture in advance.
  18. That won’t necessarily provide protection under a State’s consumer fraud act (different states have different names). Something that is vague or ambiguous can still be deceptive. NJ’s version not only authorizes NJ through the Attorney General’s office to prosecute, but awards triple damages and attorneys fees won by consumers If they sue. Other states may not be that generous. For example, if you list something as by Picasso, but then on your website bury language in which you try to claim that you make no representations as to any item’s authenticity, that might be still be a violation of State law (depends on the state).
  19. You might want to consider adjusting the picture heights slightly on the top row to create an even, straight line. Otherwise, nice arrangement.
  20. I think you overestimate the capacity of unaffected people to stay in a War mode in this country. Italy seems to be an unusual situation. A relatively small country, it reports death rates exceeding the "official" death rate in China (who knows what it really is). Everyone is guessing at the reasons, although the lack of an early quarantine and crowd control measures is getting most of the blame. Service industries are suffering as of now. BUT, there are also reports that Amazon is desparate to hire workers to move product, along with other companies. Delivery jobs are also in demand. I expect the same with product packaging, for delivery, with all the attendant support systems. The people may not like the jobs, but this presages a move to a more "remote" economic system which really rose with the growth of the internet.
  21. I don't think you appreciate what a really bad disease is. Go read up on things like Polio epidemics, the death rate for Smallpox, the devastation caused by the Black Death, or even measles' impact without being vaccination. Even other diseases in the coronavirus "family" have a higher death rate, like SARS and MEARS. I did not say it was a "good" disease.
  22. While Coronavirus is highly contagious, it is not a bad disease. This isn’t like a smallpox epidemic, or a really bad flu like the attack in 1918 (although any data on deaths has to be scaled due to the much smaller population back then). But shutting down all “nonessential business”? Tell workers their work isn’t essential when it puts food on their table.
  23. Too pessimistic, although we are due for an economic slowdown. In 2-3 weeks people will say the heck with this crisis and ignore anything that isn’t a hard law. People will congregate, there will be home parties, and the politicians will be under too much pressure to relent. Then, we will learn that the anti-malaria drug works, or the virus is not being spread as much because hot weather kills viruses (so I have heard), or maybe something like Rollaids gives immunity. By Memorial Day, this will be on its way to a bad memory.
  24. Still looking for leads. Tried Facebook, CAF and Tumblir where he is a member, but no responses yet. Anyone?
  25. I was wondering where you’d been the past few days. Work related, presumably?
