  1. Got this a few days ago on eBay. It was a fixed price listing that had been up for a few hours. Happened to be in the right place at the right time.
  2. You don't know the half of it! I first checked to make sure it was not a stock image, then hit buy it. For a moment I thought about going to the website and buying it there because it is a bit less expensive that way (and I am cheap), but for a buck or two I did not want to take the extra time to do that. eBay has been good to me lately. I have another eBay find which got delivered today which I will try to post a photo of tonight. 30 cent variants are more my thing, but I pick up the 35 cent variants when I can.
  3. It was. You can't get all the eBay price variant bargains (your recent Incredible Hulk 212,212,213 in less than a week)! I am not counting on this one until I actually get it. Last time I ordered a price variant from My Comic Shop they sent me a regular price book. But they did refund my money.
  4. I was watching that auction and when I saw the end price I was flabbergasted, precisely because there are five CGC 9.6s. On the other hand, whose to say when/if one of the other four will ever be on the market. There is also the fact that the book is of interest to ASM collectors and price variant collectors. But personally, I agree with you whole-heartedly. The CGC census of ASM 30 cent variants is interesting. If only the CGC Census is considered, the ASM 159 is the scarcest ASM 30 cent price variant, esp. when compared to 155-157. The # of ASM 30 cent price variants CGC 9.2 - 9.8 are: 155 - 28; 156 - 22; 157 - 37; 158 - 15; 159 - 12.
  5. Congrats! A thing of beauty, indeed! Almost makes me want to move to a test market area! Every time I read here of a find like this (I think the last was wormboy in 10/2017), I think, "Man, what am I doing collecting these when I live here?" Like I have a choice!
  6. My reply to Shield Agent above was meant to be here. Here it is again:I was bidding on those, and would have won if you did not bid. I probably would have gone higher if the pics were better and the back covers were photographed. One of the #23s looked pretty good in the listing, and still does in your pics. I also probably would have gone higher if I did not already have both. It was a good buy, IMHO.

  8. Thanks for the sage advice. Guess I will just keep plugging away, one book at a time.
  9. Here, by popular demand, is the NDS insert in my Amazing Adventures 11. My thing, BTW, is Marvel 30 cent variants. Have any of you heard of a Mark Jewelers insert in one of those? I have never heard of one. I would be glad to trade this AA 11 for a nice 30 cent variant.
  10. It is the same lingerie that has been around for 47 year! The book actually looks better than the photo. The black on the cover and the stamp are washed out in the photo.
  11. Thought some of you would like to see this Amazing Adventures #11 NDS Variant. The star stamp is on the comic code seal. Has anyone heard of another? The guy I got it from said it was pretty rare. Thanks.
  12. First, I am looking for input on CGC scoring of the Marvel 30¢ price variant set in the CGC Registry. Acc. to CGC, "Every comic book receives a 'score' or point value associated with its scarcity, desirability, and certified grade." As I reviewed the scoring for this set, it appeared some titles/issues were relatively underscored, esp. the horror titles, most of the Western titles, and Sgt Fury issues. It also appeared to me that some titles/issues were relatively over-scored, e.g., Howard The Duck, Iron Fist, Marvel Team-Up, Tomb of Dracula 43-45. I was puzzled by several other things in the scoring of this set, e.g., all the ASM issues are scored the same when they all have about the same desirability but there are substantially fewer high grade CGC graded 158s and 159s. Am I wrong about the CGC scoring of the Marvel 30¢ price variant set? I am pretty new to Marvel price variants and to this chat board, so if I am way off base on this, I apologize. Also, if this has already been discussed ad nauseam on this board, I apologize. Second, below is a low grade book which was hidden in a lot I recently bought on eBay. eBay.
  13. This book was hiding in a small lot of books I got on eBay. It is low grade, but it is nice to know these are out there to be found.
  14. Congrats on a good find! Based on my personal experience, I concur with FlyingDonut.
  15. Is there such a think as a Marvel 30 or 35 cent price variant which also has a Mark Jewelers insert? MJ inserts are in issues that had price variants, but the two may have been mutually exclusive.
  16. I was out of town in WI and stopped at a comic book shop looking for 30 cent variants. I found this one instead out in the wild. It is my first 35 cent variant. This is kind of how I started collecting 30 cent variants. Oh no...
  17. Here is a question for the collective wisdom and experience of the PVC: The attached image shows the front cover of an Astonishing Tales #36 30 cent variant I recently obtained. The black color on some parts of the cover is quite dark, and on some parts of the cover it is quite light. Based on the way the light and dark is distributed, I would say it is definitely not from fading. As an example, Crazy Moustache Guy's chest is mostly light black, but there is a sliver of dark black above the orange-haired dude's head. The right edge of the front cover also seems generally light, but I suppose that could be fading. The black color on the back cover is like that on the front cover. My questions: 1. Can someone explain the 1976 printing process which would result in the above-described phenomenon. 2. Could it have something to do with the printing of the regional 30 cent price? 3. Has anyone seen this in this particiular book or 30 cent variants in general?
  18. Thanks for the encouragement and advise!
  19. I did read that earlier. I started this topic by accident, actually. Like I said, I am not much of a chat boarder/blogger, but I am learning. Thx for the guidance.
  20. It is definitely a different mind-set that focusing on just one or a few titles like I used to.
  21. Thx. I can't seem to get enuf of them (the books I mean) .I am kind of new to chat boards, not quite sure how they work, so I just noticed this.

  23. A few months ago I bought a lot of 40 misc books on eBay, which included an Avengers 149 30 cent variant, about FN+. Prior to that time I never thought twice about 30 cent variants, but the book for some reason fascinated me. The fascination exploded, and I am now slowly selling off my comic book collection to finance my new interest in Marvel 30 cent variants. Anyone have an opinion as to why this happened to me at 54 years old? All I can think of is that in 1976 I was 13 y.o., prime comic book reading age, and this is some kind of nostalgia. My dilemma is I live in a small city in western WI with little opportunity to hunt for price variants outside of eBay and other online sales outlets. I have yet to obtain a Western title, but do have WWT 17, C of C 22 and 23 and X-Men 98 and 100. I want to be patient as far as condition and price go in buying books, but feel like I am way behind the curve. Does this resonate with any of you?
  24. A few months ago I bought my first 30 cent variant (Avengers #149) . It was in the wild in a lot of 40 miscellaneous books for sale on eBay. Prior to said purchase, I had no interest at all in 30 cent variants, but 30 cent variants are now my main focus in collecting comic books. I live in western WI, nowhere near a test market. Other than the obvious online marketplaces (eBay; Comic Connect; Comic Link; My Comic Shop; etc.), are there any other options for buy/sell/trade in 30 cent variants? It seems that I keep seeing the same titles/issues for sale on eBay. I have yet to get a Western 30 Cent Variant, although I have been able to obtain C of C 22 and 23 and WWT 17.
