  1. Because the high cost of slabbing a magazine offsets the value of having it slabbed in the first place.
  2. Well yeah that’s the thing. Before CGC it was up to each trader’s interpretation as to what a magazine’s overall condition was. There was no ground truth, so to speak, to compare it to.
  3. I mean honestly no one really knows what the magazine will grade as until CGC grades it. Deciding on the value of the magazine and if its worth it to be slabbed can be very difficult unless you are a professional grader.
  4. Thank you for the input, it is making more sense. I was thinking about using eBay sold listings but my biggest hurdle is the vast difference in grading criteria for ungraded magazines. One person may say it is a 8.0 while another may see it as a 4.5. I'll just have to use my best guesstimate. CGC pricing feels like a damn racket. Jesus.
  5. So without going into much detail I have a bunch of collectible magazines, most in the pre-1975 era. There are some that I would like to get slabbed - those being the early issues. I am assuming this lands me in the Economy category. It also says the max value is $400. Who decides the value? Them or me? If its me, where would I get an accurate and reliable value? Also, if it estimated over $400 would they automatically charge me for the Standard fee($85)? Have you found the current turnaround times on the CGC website to be accurate? 216 days seems excessively lengthy.
  6. So I have been looking at a few Power Girl comics on eBay and I noticed there are a few listed with signatures on the front cover, e.g. Adam Hughes, Amanda Conner, etc. I am assuming if I sent this in it would be slabbed as a Qualified Series since the signature wasn't witnessed by a CGC person. So is it even worth it to have it slabbed or would the value not increase that much? My other question is I have seen Qualified Comics slabbed with a note at the top saying "Signed by so and so on 4/1/2017". How would CGC know the date it was signed if there is only a signature? I have seen others where it simply states "Signatures on cover". If I sent in a comic with signatures on the cover would it say specifically who signed them on the slab? How well do Qualified slabs sell for compared to their signed raw and Sig Series counterparts?
  7. I have been really digging Mike Mayhew's work in X-Men Origins: Jean Gray, however I don't see many one-shots or series where he has lent his unique artistic talent between the covers(he is primarily a cover artist). I am having a hard time finding other comics with ultra-realistic style that he has. Does anyone know of other artists that mimic his work?
  8. I wish I had a comic store around here, anyway.... Is there a reliable site you guys use where I would be able to preview comics before buying them? Even just a couple pages. I want to be sure I like the art style of the strips rather than just basing the likeness on the cover alone. Thanks.
  9. I know you still have a lot to post but I was wondering if you had any Variant Covers for Moderns of Catwoman, Invisible Woman, Power Girl, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Captain Marvel, Batgirl, Gwen Stacy, Spider-Gwen, Supergirl, Zatanna, or Might Thor Issues?
  10. I'm not super into comic collecting however a few have piqued my interest in their appearance. For example Adam Hughes, artgerm and Joshua Middleton variants are especially beautiful. 1. What would help me the most in finding which comics have variant covers or would I have to go through each one individually? For example, Batgirl #23 has a Middleton variant. How would I know which other variants are out there for this issue? I stumbled across this site: https://goldenapplecomics.com/. Are there any others? 2. Is the inside content/storyline the same for each variant cover? 3. If a certain issue has a variant cover, is it safe to assume the artist has a variant cover for all issues in the volume? Thank you.
  11. 4.0 with a 4.5 on a good day at CGC. I believe a 5.5 would be way overshooting here with the soiling and discoloration of the covers.
  12. All in all, no higher than a 2.0 and possibility of a 1.8 with various pieces missing, top right FC tear(still hanging on) and detached cover.
  13. 4.0 if that is a tear and not a crease on the back top left.
  14. What ever happened with this OP? Curious.
  15. Originally a 7.5 in my mind. From what I have noticed, CGC tends to be more forgiving to GA comics so I'm going with an 8.0. Excellent color for a 76 year old mag. Good luck!
  16. Round 2 of my earlier issues of Famous Monsters magazines. If I were to send these in for grading, what do you think they would be marked at? 13 17 24
