Wow, AF15 has DROPPED!!! Great time to buy a copy. But as has now been pointed out, because I wasn’t looking close at the book but that color touch removal definitely affected the sale.

I gotta say, that 7.5 grade is extremely generous there is a lot of very visible chipping in that book.  (edit- from previous posts looks like CT removal - even worse!)

Well, probably really more a case of to each their own, but like I had stated right off the bat, it's just my personal feeling which means that it's certainly opened up to dispute from others.  (thumbsu

I just personally tend to believe the majority of old school longer term collectors are probably more risk adverse as compared to the newer CGC generation of collectors who probably don't mind taking a bit bit of risk and might actually find some fun in doing it, while some others would avoid it by choosing not to particpate at all.  Sure, I know that from a rational POV, bidders are simply supposed to put in their maximum amount that they are willing to spend on a particular book.  But my sense of human nature tells me although they might not mind to spend another $50K or $100K on a particular book, they don't want to "voluntarily" throw that number out their on their own, unless they are actually forced to and that's where step by step incremental bidding comes in.  hm

Then again, like you said, it might just be a hair-brained assumption lol on my part here. (shrug)

I guess I’d consider myself and “old school” collector :preach: but I certainly wouldn’t call myself risk averse (although at times I wish I had been more so)  and I typically won’t put  a cap on a book that I’m really after. Based on some bidding competitions I’ve been involved in, I definitely ain’t the only one.

and please do tell about those crypto kiddies voluntarily throwing crazy bids around. I have some books I’d love for them to bid on

Have always love this almost 3-D like Simon & Kirby classic cover since I have a penchant for the color Green when it comes to cover colors:  :luhv:

Will be interesting to see where this nicely presenting copy here finishes up at since it seems to have fallen out of favor over the years, as evident by its current hammer bid of only $1,650 with only another hour and half before the 3-minute bell rings.   :taptaptap:

This book definitely deserves more love then it gets.

Yeah I always wonder as well why the big big books go to CC and Heritage. Can only assume they just have a much better history of solid results, and clink doesn’t with those kind of books. I agree with you though, would be nice if clink could compete there. They certainly do well in other areas though, as you mentioned.

I think adding an extended bidding feature as well as a more frequently listed time pay option would help.

Lou Fine is my favorite artist...although a minor character...the image evinces the grace and lyrical quality that Fine brought to the drawn page.....for me it just is mesmerizing.....motion that you can feel although it is static......look at the care to the wrinkling of clothes......it just does it for me....different strokes for different folks.....jon

    So many to choose from!

There’s no denying, Comiclink is far from the premiere mega golden key selling location. Those books certainly tend to see the light of day with Heritage and CC more routinely, and do well on both. I feel like if you look back at past clink auctions you’ll find some solid sales, but overall they are definitely much stronger in the silver and bronze arena.

Ya they seem to do well with low to mid priced Golden Age books and not blue chip. That's unfortunate because having three equally competing auction houses is important for the health of the hobby IMHO.

This used to be highest graded, I paid what I thought may have been overpaying maybe two years ago on C'Link, but the results of the new highest graded only a half point higher yesterday on HA (getting almost 3x what i got this for) make me very happy I did pay what I did .

Ship has sailed on #18 for me though, yesterday confirmed that lol, time to adjust the ol remaining want list.

I bid on this book and walked away because the price just got insane. Someone was clearly after rare and esoteric GA books this auction and although books like this were never cheap, they were never this absurdly priced. Super cool cover and I love the Prize run up to issue 26. Every one hard to find and they've gotten even harder to own.

Maybe because the transaction was not completed?

I figured it out. you need to go to the VERY small link at the bottom for resolution center. Once there its easy and got a very nice rep on the phone in 2 minutes.

  9. Hi All

Is anyone familiar with Ebay seller RB3Comics? I bid on a Beware 10 3.0 and hammered at a decent price. Seller cancelled transaction just 3 days after I purchased the book (I was out of town but that's a short time frame to cancel). My guess is he didn't like the hammer price so reneged. First time that's happened to me in 15 years of Ebay buying. Anyone have any experience with this seller? Are Ebay sellers just arbitrarily allowed to cancel if they don't like the price the book sold for? Not happy about it.

  10. One of my favorite threads. For me the most enjoyable aspect of GA collecting is the hunt for the very elusive. Of all the books in my 15+ years of collecting, this was by far the hardest to track down. This came up at the Jon Berk auction and I couldn't believe my eyes. Only reason that I tracked this book (the cover is fairly vanilla) is that I was attempting to put together a Speed run and this was the final hold out. Only 3 on the census and I'd love to see the others.
