  1. If it is a choice between instant gratification for $49.99 or waiting three months, I will wait three months 100% of the time. I broke down and rented Gettysbugh this weekend when Amazon had the extended version for $2. I cant recall the previous movie I paid to watch at home. I get Disney+ from Verizon, get Netflix from my sisters account and have free trial memberships with Hulu and WWE., as well as everything Amazon Prime offers.
  2. As most Americans don't have a $1,000 emergency fund, and God only knows how many people will have jobs in two weeks, I stand by my statement. Those lucky few who don't need to be concerned about their future might want to look around for some bargains.
  3. In addition to a 90 day payment holiday, I expect many banks will be willing to take interest only payments for the next year or two.
  4. I've been picking up side salads from Burger King as produce is pretty skimpy here. We have two tremendous farmers markets that used to provide most of the produce but they were shut down when Corona came to town. Bisbee is almost completely tourist dependent and almost every business is closed right now. Most of the tourist shops are mainly consignments so while closing is bad, they don't have more merchandise coming in that they need to pay.
  5. If you had called them two weeks ago, you would have gotten a very different answer, and chances are in two weeks, you'll get another answer. My car lease was up a few months back and I extended it six months. It's now up April 1st. Last month I was told they wouldn't renew it and I had to buy it or turn it in immediately. Saturday, I got an email offering a ninety day extension. I'd love to think the economy is elastic enough to bounce right back, but I'm a realist. As far as the Comic business goes, Diamond has been a zombie for years. If I still owned a shop, I'd be making whatever plans I could to operate in a post Diamond environment. As it is, I have 2500 square feet of commercial space I need to re-imagine. That's the least of my problems right now. New York State, and especially NYC , has insane landlord laws. Why anyone chooses to be a landlord ,I don't understand. I have a Co-optimal in Jackson Heights that I rent out, but only to close friends. When they move, I'm selling it. Crazy thing is I picked it up for $19,000 and it now rents out for $1500., which is substantially below market.
  6. Yes, if you have a subscription and the store laid out the money, you should pick them up. If I had a significant pull list, I'd offer to pay by phone and let them hold it awhile. I just don't think this is the time to be spending extra money on hobbies.
  7. I'm a small business owner and have been since before the Comic Distribution Wars. The Federal Government will step in and help your business in a matter of weeks. The odds are you won't be responsible for the rent while you are down nor any of your expenses. Meanwhile your employees will be lucky if they get $2,000 for their lost income. Now is not the time for them to be spending money on hobbies. Winter is coming. Perhaps it will be like winter in Florida, but I think it will be more akin to a South Dakota winter. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Time to turtle up.
  8. There are no bags that fit these books perfectly. I just use a regular bag and put up with the poor fit. I guess there isn't enough demand to merit it's own category.
  9. If it is an older slab, you can "cure" this by inserting a piece of loose leaf paper into the slab. If its one of the newer redesigned slabs, this isn't an option.
  10. Between the virus lasting extended periods on cardboard and plastic, and given fanboys legendary attention to personal hygiene, I can't think of a place I'd rather be. Not.
  11. Oh, I had not realized Starbucks had re-opened. That makes it all better. IF it is a temporary glitch, then any well run business should be able to ride it out. If it isn't, then people are going to regret any non-essential spending.
  12. I'm sorry, but I think your priorities are way off. With the coming storm, the last thing on one's mind should be spending on hobbies. Now is not the time to be rearranging the deck chairs.
  13. Just bunker down and forget about the long term. Right now we should be working on fire breaks, not worrying about what will happen when the fire is put out. Go home and keep your loved ones there.
  14. Arizona had four cases last Sunday, with no deaths. Today, its at 152 and 2 deaths.
  15. Now that one Senator has tested positive, guidelines say anyone in contact with him should stay home for two weeks. The Senate doesn't allow remote votes so it seems Paul will get his wish after all and there will be no aid package. If somebody wrote this as a novel, it would be rejected as unrealistic. What sort of goes to a gym full of senior citizens after having a test.
  16. This won't be revealed until after Disney buys DC, but years ago, Magneto borrowed Dr Dooms time machine and traveled to the thirtieth century where he pretended to be a hero and joined the Legion of Super-Heroes. His Legion flight ring is in a hidden compartment of his helmet.
  17. The numbers so far are nothing compared to whats coming. If we are very lucky, only 25 MILLION of us will be infected.
  18. I don't see any way Diamond survives this, so just accept the packages if they aren't COD. Meanwhile, shut down.
  19. I wouldn't grab my pitchfolk just yet. The story sounds horrible but the truth may be far different. Lets see their trading statements for the last year. Its not that unusual for people to buy and sell a million dollars worth of stock in a month. If they can show their January sales fit in a year long pattern, it might not be a huge story. I've read that the California Senator is worth almost 100 million dollars. With that kind of money, making a million dollars worth of trades in a month is no big deal. Evidently, the Georgia Senator is also quite wealthy. On the other hand, if those trades are way outside their normal patterns, light the bonfires. On yet another hand, how can our leaders say with a straight face that no one saw this coming if they were dumping stock and telling others to.
  20. When he was working, he'd hand out free passes like gum as long as you promised to buy a soda and anything else. His passes, by the way, were good anywhere, anytime, even when it said No Passes accepted. I had more than a few extended discussions with cashiers and managers about them.
  21. When my friend was an executive for the company that does the ads they show in theaters, he told me the studio gets 90% of ticket sales the first week and then the percentage goes down each week and eventually goes to 90% for the theatre. I've heard other percentages tossed around but the studio only gets a fraction of total box office.
  22. If anyone wants to take a fun trip down Memory Lane, go read a similar thread from when Marvel announced the Young Avengers series. I don't know anything about these characters but the herd certainly was wrong about The Y.As.
  23. When I lived in Henderson, I was using a Brita filter but picked up a zero water one that greatly improved the taste.
