  1. With four extra covers, it would bring a premium, but I'm not sure if it would cover the costs associated with shipping the book round trip to be graded. Offer it here on the Sales boards. I'd buy it for $25.
  2. I'd think it would sell for a lot more than 5,000, so if the VG value is 4600, then your assumption is wrong. I'll give you $6,000 US for it right now, depending on exactly what the label says.
  3. CCS is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life. Major Marco.
  4. He always was a nice guy, which made his behavior the last time unusual. Lots of people I know at shows I think are dicksters but wouldn't say anything to. As I said, I hope its not our last conversation.
  5. I met Peter back when he was Carol Kalish's assistant and was in charge of trying to get comic shops to upgrade to new cash registers. This was around 84-85. It's strange but the last time I talked with Peter, I laughingly told him he had become the dickster he always warned people of becoming. I was talking to him about something and a little kid came along and asked him a rather silly question. He was in the middle of a convoluted answer when someone walked by. Mr David stopped his answer to call the guy over and started a private conversation. Several minutes went by and the kid started to feel more and more ignored. Finally he walked away without a word. I did too, but made it a point to come back later and tell him how hurt the kid looked. He gave me a look like he had no idea what I was talking about. Haven't seen him since his stroke. Hopefully this won't prove to be our last conversation.
  6. I have almost the same sketch but its from 1977 and I think I paid $10 for it. Have a great pencil only Warlock that cost me $2. Timing is everything. I originally wanted Strider from LOTRs but he had never heard of the character.
  7. I'm beginning to see why you are in financial problems. I'm also getting tired of people using autism as an excuse.
  8. Most flaws will detract from the value. A few will increase it. Being manufactured with multiple covers is a flaw that increases value. If a book is wrapped in the wrong cover, that flaw increases value. If a book is miscut, or miswrapped, it usually doesn't increase the value unless its an unbelievable mistake. I recently saw a 1970s Marvel that literally had half of two covers , the miswrap was so bad. I made a generous offer on what is otherwise a very common book, and was turned down.
  9. No, that's not at all accurate. Schell claimed he had a large cache of books CGC was storing and seemingly they invoiced and graded them when they had time. It had nothing to do with holding evidence. Schell claimed it was a complete coincidence that books of his, that ewart had trimmed, happened to be graded the day after CGC warned about ewart trimming, and Doug forgot he had JE work on the books.
  10. During the whole Jason Ewart affair, Doug Schell claimed CGC was holding books of his that were both unpaid and uninvolved.
  11. "Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic" comes to mind.
  12. Growth is due to price increases, more than unit expansion. A billion dollar business doesn't mean a successful one. The number of sales outlets keeps dwindling, as do sales per store. An almost ten percent decline in sales is not a sign of a healthy market. I am of the opinion that in order to save the comic market, it must first be destroyed.
  13. Other than completely and utterly destroying Diamond, and starting over from scratch, I'm not optimistic anything can save Superman or the 32 page monthly comic. Then again, I'm not sure they are worth saving. As almost every book is made into a TPB, just eliminate the monthlies and put out three TPBs a year. Since they aren't reprints, you can even charge more. But I digress. Good luck to MR B. I've enjoyed most of what I've read of his, but that's a very small fraction of his work.
  14. I like a lot of there stuff, but am not crazy about this model. It might be the shadows in the original but I don't think this one captures the mood of the painting.
  15. I think his question was about the label, not the slab. I can't answer your question. If nobody answers you here in a while, try the signature forum. Those guys eat, breathe and collect this stuff.
  16. Where is the guy storing these? A space that large isn't cheap and adds up awfully fast.
  17. It's a shipping error. Stay calm and explain it to them. It's not the first one, or the last. Pain in the , but I'm sure they will resolve it.
  18. Kool. I can knock it off with one transaction and put the card back in the vault.
  19. Outstanding. I have a $2000 invoice I was just going to pay on a different card.
  20. I have no idea, but it's a legitimate question. As I understand it, Diamond is pretty tough on non-paying accounts. I met the owner, Peter, once, at a CGC sponsored dinner and then we ended up in an Indian nightclub fpr some drinks. I came away very impressed by him, but that was perhaps ten years ago. I can't defend him, so I'll just say I hope it works out for everyone and this is nothing but a glitch.
  21. I would imagine that this is only effecting a very small minority of Paradise clients. If it is a typical shop, 95% of their buyers don't use CGC and are unaffected by this. Unless this is just a symptom of a much larger problem, which it may well be, I don't see this as a business ending affair.
