  1. New York City - W 43rd Street - Times Square - circa. early 1930's Shadow advertising poster from 1933 featured prominentally in this shot. Original 11½” x 14½” cardboard window sign “Weird Avenger of Crime” - circa. 1933 .. as seen in the above newsstand pictures (NOT one of the paper repro's that Steranko did in the 1970's). ....from my personal Shadow collection.
  2. [font:Arial Black]Shadow Blue Coal Trolley Sign (28" x 5 1/2")[/font] Hi, Just picked this up for my personal collection (circa. 1930's) This is an incredibly beautiful vibrant two-sided Blue Coal thick cardboard like material sign. the colors are so extremely bright and the condition is so wonderful, that I don't believe this one was ever displayed. not many of these signs have survived, especially in this shape. Blue Coal was the sponsor for the radio serial "THE SHADOW" from the 1930's and 1940's. As you can see the program was on Sunday afternoons when all of the family was together and it didn't interfere with Sunday worship. The sign was used in store front windows to be seen inside and out. It was used in bus stations and on buses, in train stations and on trains, trolley platforms and trolleys, and perhaps even airports. The signs slid in slots and were changed each month. This month is Oct. The month is on lower left side where as most are on the right. BLUE COAL must have sent out a set of twelve each year to their advertising venues so every month a different sign could be displayed. Talking to the person who had this sign, NONE of the other 11 signs had the shadow on them, they were just generic blue coal signs.

  4. Hi, Actually the run is not high grade. There are the odd examples in the 1935-39 range in nice shape. Nothing in the early years is decent shape (fr-gd wih tape). Dwight

  10. Awesone classic covers of key isssues BZ, and if beautiful shape!! I read the Ward article and was amazed when I found out that he was the artist that did the Superman paiting that hung in DC's offices for years. I wonder where that one went (don't tell me you have it BZ), that would be awesome! Dwight
  11. Hi guys, I know this is double posting, but it is Christmas holidays. These are most of the 1932 Shadows which are really tough to get in grade. Most are in high grade with ow-white or white paper. I just picked "Green Eyes" (bottom left), it had a little bit of wear at the top and bottom of the overhang, the color on it was unreal. The silver foil cover of "Crime Cult" is my favorite, and in newsstand condition. Dwight
  12. Here are some of my 1932's. Most are high grade with white/ow paper. It is a tough run to put together, especially in grade. Just picked up Green Eyes (bottom left), which has a little wear on top and bottom overhangs, but the color strike on this particular issue was unbelievable (replaced two other issues of it I had).
  13. Ryan, Great Group Shot!!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BZ, I was waiting for you to post your paintings...simply awesome!!! Dwight
  14. The Shadow - "The Gray Ghost" - May 1, 1936. Classic covered Shadow from the "Strasser" collection! Bottom right is just a printers crease, not a tear. The Shadow - "The City of Crime" - October 1, 1936 From the "Strasser" collection!
  15. I also just picked up this Ultra Rare Shadow premium. Blue Coal was the sponsor of the Shadow radio show in the late 1930's and early 1940's. In the late 1930's, Blue Coal sales reps would gave away an extremely limited number of Shadow Blue Coal Capes. These capes were adult size made of heavy fabric and were striking in appearance. This is a beautiful example of one of only 3 known to exist. 1930's Shadow Blue Coal Cape (extremely rare and well made).
  16. Just picked up a killer copy of The Shadow - "Crime Insured" - July 1, 1937 from the "Strasser" collection.

  21. Hi BZ, Yes, Ed's sons brought his collection. As expected there was a feeding frenzy. Some of the more impressive stuff were the All Detective, All star Detective, Far East, Oriental Stories, runs of Dime Mystery, Dime detective, Clues Detective, a low grad run of Spiders, Green Lama's appearances, etc. and hiundreds of other pulps, from early to mid 1930's items right up to the 1940's items. By the end, most of the pulps had been sold. Ed's sons were very nice fellows but I think at times overwhelmed by the interest in the collection. If you want to know any more specifics, you can PM me. Dwight
  22. These are some very rare and highly sought after pulps that surfaced from an old time collector, and showed up at last weeks Pulpcon in Dayton. The ALL DETECTIVE'S are from 1933 and 1934 and pre-dating the Dr. Death run. The STAR magazine is from 1931 and has a great cover ****As much as I like the covers and the rarety of the newly acquired pulps, I have to admit that they could all be available for trade for early Shadows and 1930's and 40's Shadow collectibles.****
