  1. I have a few X-men books of his signed. I should probably dig them out and get them CGC'd if there's still interest in him. I kind of assumed there wasn't since he started making video games.

I met him at one of the Mega-Cons (pre-battlechasers) in Florida when I was growing up. He was pretty generous with his time and did a sketch or 2 for me.

Edit: I actually posted a sketch he did awhile back on a different thread.

  2. I'm selling some CGC'd books from my collection - many signed. Below is the complete list.

    https://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=&_ssn=noodles1771&_sop=1

All books sold so far have shipped out within 24hrs of sale and are carefully and attentively packed.

All CGC Cases are Mint and literally have not been removed from the return box from CGC aside from the pictures taken for the listings below. They are not being taken to trade shows etc - these are from my personal collection.

Feel free to e-mail any questions. Thanks for looking!

  3. I printed out the packing slip for the Marc Silvestri Signing thinking I saw CGC's return address on there and closed the CGC window in my browser. There is no return address on the packing slip or even the event page.

I'm assuming it's CGC's regular PO box 4738 but because this is a special event I don't want to assume. Funny enough even CGC's usual return address is not listed on their  'Shipping Collectibles to CGC page.'

Can someone please confirm if my books should be shipped to CGC's usual 4738 PO Box. Thanks.

  5. Without boring people on the details of a bad ebay encounter yesterday, I thought I'd make a PSA game out of it. Feel free to add your own line items.

How to Suck as an Ebay Seller (An Ongoing List):

    • You're unresponsive to a buyer's question.
    • You're responsive but don't follow up with the actual information requested from you.
    • You still haven't figured out how to add combined shipping on your item pages so customers get hit with multiple $5 or $10 dollar shipping charges on every item they have from you when they go to check out. (5+1, carry the 2 = Your buyer is now spending more on shipping for your books than your actual books.)
    • Someone requests a Gemini Mailer or T-mailer for shipping - not only can you not provide this as an option - you try to sell the buyer on how your bubblegum and scotch tape method of shipping is superior. (Granted some sellers do go out of their way to do a better job than off the shelf solutions like Gemini or T-mailers, here the issue is regarding those that are clearly suggesting inferior options or more typically asking you to 'trust them').
    • Someone requests a Gemini Mailer or T-mailer for shipping and you use it as an excuse to take a .50 cent item and milk it into a $4 or $5+ add on. ('You know - weight bro').
    • Either of the above two shipping issues happens and you're a large volume "Professional" seller on ebay.
    • Someone messages you about a few books to work out a group price on and instead of de-listing the items and submitting a private offer you encourage them to use the 'Submit Offer' button then proceed to deny previously discussed prices and haggle with them there.
    • You use Stock photos instead of your own detailed photos that show the condition of the actual item you want to sell and list as NM/M. (You deceitful, shady monkey).
    • Someone requests closeup photos of the corners and spine of your book and you refer them to your low quality scan of the front side of the book you want $20 or more + shipping for.
    • Someone requests photos on the book you use stock images for and list as NM/M and you tell them. ("Pictures take too long - sorry bro").
    • You use low quality pixelated photos with glare or blur to show the condition of your item with the caption "condition: Check photos."
    • Your logo or branding covers or obscures the photo of your item's condition. ('What dented corner??').
    • You use one overall image to show the condition of your book and instead of using a solid background for contrast you prefer multi-color 'magic eye' wall paper, rugs, or veiny granite countertops. Bonus: You have a white sketch cover of a book and put it in front of a white background thereby eliminating any notion of contrast.
    • The concept of a top down photo showing an overall shot of your book doesn't appeal to you as much as the special effect of showing the book laid out at such an extreme angle that the top looks like it's vanishing into a one point perspective. ('It's like the opening Star Wars crawl bro - epic').
    • Someone wish-listing your niche item and sending a question changes the item from a 'buy it now' to 'bid' option.

(Thankfully I didn't go through with the order yesterday but cough cough keep your distance).

I would be curious to know the outcome because I had this book signed back in the day from a local comic shop - came with a COA etc and sent it in to CGC expecting a 9.6+ green label and got back a 6.5 because it said it was missing the insert. I had assumed the shop just took it out themselves (I never did) but if they were buying them in bulk for this signing and there's some that never came with the insert then...

  7. Just wondering why CGC only has custom Marvel labels? It's nice having new options this year but are we ever going to see any DC / Image / Valiant / Dark Horse options?

Also it would be nice to see a free custom label created and given (as a perk) to members that do the in-house CGC signings since these events don't require membership (of course you could charge the normal $5 to non-members). A custom Todd Mcfarlane, Jim Lee, Rob Liefield, J. Scott Campbell, Sam Kieth, Mark Silvestri, Joe Quesada, Frank Miller, Artgerm, Mike Mignola,  label for a signing would be a nice exclusive bonus for spending as much as we do on these compared to a normal convention. Jeff Smith doing a custom Bone label/signing (to kick off the Netflix series Premiere) would be sweet as well.

I find some of the stuff this guy (known as "ComicTropes") does interesting. Not all of it but he has enough content that you don't have to watch it all.

    https://www.youtube.com/user/skunkape

Yeah Comic Tropes is one of the few I was subbed to before. I appreciate his eclectic taste and research/knowledge on the subjects. Given we don't have a comics magazine like Wizard anymore it's harder and harder to find places engaging with the actual culture and history of comics and comic artists. Cartoonist Kayfabe has some nice interviews as well. There's far too much depressingly unimaginative 'what's the hottest selling thing selling on ebay this week' passing as comic culture for me typically when I find people doing a comic related channel. To a certain extent that's fine, (there should be a place for it), but there's so many Kickstarter projects and new publishers/artists out there these days - I wish more people were trying to give them a boost. Hopefully I'm wrong and I just haven't found what's already out there yet.

  10. I'm looking for suggestions on some of the best Youtube channels and other comic forums people visit (CGC seems to be the best UI/graphic design forum layout I've found). I've been getting a bit more into the scene (again) recently but haven't found that much that appeals to me. Without calling out anyone by name - Youtube channels with overly opinionated angry blowhards or people miming the cadence of a radio morning deejay are not my cup of tea.

I'm going to try to start selling some raws.  I've been pretty reluctant up until now.  Are the Gemini Mailers a good thing?  Cost efficient?  Better just to make your own package?  Thanks!

Personally I don't trust or buy from sellers on ebay that don't use Geminis (or something very similar/ better (i.e. a cardboard box)). Assuming you're just selling 1 to 4 or 5 raw comics at a time, they're great. I don't remember if it's 50 or 100 mailers you have to buy before the price drops to .50 cents each. (I actually had to look it up at some point because a seller wanted to sandwich a $20 or $30 dollar raw comic between two pieces of cardboard and mail it in a soft padded envelope then complained it would be too expensive for them to buy gemini mailers).

I would recommend you double board the comic (front and back), tape it down with tape that can be easily lifted (painter's tape) or cut (scotch), and either add a piece of cardboard or bubble wrap (you can get a huge roll at any lowes for less than $20 w/probably better prices from Uline online) to buffer the inside between the comic and the folded cardboard. I automatically bookmark ebay sellers that show attention to detail like this in their packing. It's also nice when sellers show an example photo on the item page of how they ship their books.

Do NOT trust 'stiff envelope mailers.' Any package that falls on them will damage whatever is inside. My own experience is below and why I no longer buy from anyone trying to ship like this:
