  1. These are the books that got me into collecting golden age. None of these are much better than reading grade, but I wouldn't trade them for anything.
  2. This is a postscript to the Smash set. Lady Luck picked up the numbering of Smash, but only lasted 5 issues. As far as I know, these are all new stories and not reprints from the Spirit Sections. But the real joy for me was discovering the Count DiChange solo stories.
  3. now I feel wholly inadequate as a collector....sob but it was fun trying to count how many of those books are worth more than my entire collection and it's nice to see Green Giant make it into the "Honor Photo"
  4. jeez...can't you let us get through with SC first? October will be here soon enough. hey dem are Florida Gators, and they are ripping that LSU robot a new a hole! gator
  5. My wife just got a digital camera and let me play around with it:
  6. Last page from the same issue. Bozo the Robot.
  7. Splash page from the Ray story from Smash #28. I was deleting some files from my flickr account and ran across these scans from when I sold some coverless books on eBay awhile back.
  8. This may blur the line between "unpopular" and "just plain obscure"
  9. Here's one of Rewl Publications Inc., Blazing #3 from September 1944. Artwork by Funnies Inc. The Green Turtle had a kid sidekick by the name of 'Burma Boy'. Another really lame name for a character
  10. Just stumbled across this post. Thanks for all the hard to find information. I've been accumulating these suckers for two years or so and bet I have less than a dozen of them. Here's Variety #2 (copyright 1945 by Croydon Publishing Company, with a mention that all material came from Lloyd Jacquet Studios). As you can see from the splash pages, the title lived up to its name.
  11. No soul, eh? Problem is you were looking at a non-Cole story. Try this one from Smash #36:
  12. here's that cole story from Target v1#2 again, a little easier to read this time
  13. crud, had me excited for a minute. oh well, here's some early Cole from Target v1#2
  14. in my opinion, both Kilroys and Cookie were past their prime by this point. The earlier issues are much more imaginative.
  15. I second the recommendation for Mr. Spiegelman's book, and would add Ron Goulart's "Focus on Jack Cole" published by Fantagraphics in 1986.
  16. I guess these are on topic here: Bible Tales #1: Bible Tales #5:
