My advice is if you send comics to CGC for grading thoroughly check them for cracks, scratches, partially opened cases etc IMMEDIATELY when you get them back. The quality of work from CGC has plummeted in the last year.

I submitted 30 books ($672!!) for grading and a full 6 months later  when I finally got my order back from CGC, 10 of my books had scratches on the cases. Oddly it seems to have been a case defect because on all the books the acratch was exactly the same, same size, same location, everything. When I sent this to CGC the reps response was "oh well we don't fix "minor" scratches.

I could have put up a better fight except I waited too long and more than 2 weeks passed since i received my order. To which the rep said "oh we would love to help but....policy and we don't fix minor defects anyway. But hey you can submit for reholder for another $20/book!"

So now I am stuck with 10 scratched books. But what was disturbing was the flippant way my concern was addressed by CGC. They literally didn't care at all that they sent me scratched cases. CGC needs competition.  They can treat customers any way they want because there is no where else to go for grading service. Personally I am done with CGC. I have spent thousands of dollars with them but if this is how they are going to be I will not be giving CGC any more of my money. I will take my chances selling my books raw.

Detective Comics #27 and Action Comics #1 probably have similar numbers in existence.  I don't think "rarest" is something that can be said for one or the other on those two books.

If you want to see photos of the comics, Google can show those.  https://www.google.com/search?q=Action+Comics+%231+1938&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X

If you want to see the counts of CGC graded copies, the CGC Census has those numbers: https://www.cgccomics.com/census/

Where can you find how much certain comics are worth? Thank you

There are comics that were known to be printed, but no copies have survived (as far as we know), so those would be the rarest.

As far as Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man, you got two of the first appearances correct.

Batman #1 isn't the first Batman.  That happened in Detective Comics #27 in 1939.  CGC has graded 74 copies.

The first appearance of Superman is in Action Comics #1 (1938), CGC has graded 78 copies.

Batman #1 is from 1940, but it is about the tenth appearance of Batman. CGC has graded 280 copies.

The first appearance of Spider-Man is Amazing Fantasy #15 (1962), CGC has graded 3,497 copies.

Thank you, so would you say detective comics 27 is the rarest followed by action comics 1? Where could someone view/see those comics? Thanks.

Impossibly broad question. Some reprints are more valuable or desired than their first printings. Most are not. There is little anyone can provide in response without more details.

I just saw an action comics 1 reprint for 30 and Batman 1 reprint four 40 and was wondering if they were worth getting and after getting them if they were worth slabbing...thanks

A good range estimate would be to check out eBay sold items, otherwise there are various price guides available for free and for sale on the internet and physical copies as well

    good luck

make sure you consider condition of comic, and possibly related fees

    Thank you
