Yup-- right here on the boards in the Comics for Sale section.  Check the Kudos thread of the seller if you don't know them, CHECK THE PICTURES and ASK QUESTIONS.   I've bought a lot here and have never had a problem, BUT-- and this is a big but-- you're not going to get a $5 refund like you did  on eBay here.  This is a place where you better know what you're doing and understand grading terms and that condition is subjective.

A lot of newbies get so stuck on price guides and grading.   Try and find a Werewolf By Night #32 at guide prices-- not going to happen by a long shot.  Get comfortable with your own grading and then pay what you're willing to pay.    I went way over guide for a Batman #11 a few years ago because it was a live in house auction and it was between me and one other bidder and I decided this other guy wasn't going to have it.  I didn't sit and lick my wounds for overpaying-- it was fun and years later I sold it at a big profit because Joker covers got hot.

There are sellers on here whose grading I'm 100% on with-- same goes for online sellers-- and there are sellers I don't agree with but I can still work with them.  If they call a book an 8.0 I might consider it a 7.0 and I buy it knowing that.  In other cases for some of them what I call an 8.0 I would call a 9.0-- it's all subjective.

For online sellers there's SuperworldComics.com , FourColorComics.com , DaleRobertsComics.com , MetropolisComics.com and a few others I'm sure I'm missing.  But for these guys I know their grading and use it subjectively against my own.

    Thank you

I think that you got your moneys worth. $17 sounds like a readers copy and now you have $5 back...

It really depends on how YOU feel about it. If your going to buy not to read, may I suggest you buy already graded and slabbed copies...

    Thank you

Grading may be subjective but no honest seller would call this a nice copy, it's a festering rag.  The pictures clearly show that it's a rag.  I can clearly see the tape and see that the book is destroyed.

You're learning a valuable lesson here for cheap.  Do you're due diligence before buying anything.  Pay attention to details, study the pictures closely on a laptop or an ipad - not a phone, and check the seller's feedback.  Realize that there are a lot of bad sellers on ebay, a lot of sellers who can't grade or who will hide condition issues and or restoration.

    Thank you

    Yes there is, absolutely.

BTW, "nice copy" is subjective. Was it a "nice copy?" It depends.

Is this a "nice copy"? I think so.

    What about this one?

    0760786001f.jpg?auto=format,compress&fm=

Those are both really low grade, but would you say "hey, those are pretty nice?" I'd say the Amazing Fantasy 15 is a "nice copy"

And so, I have blocked you.

    Please nooooooooooo

Dust off your dictionary :p . In all seriousness though, you can't brush that off it is an excuse plain and simple. Come on.

Bro, an excuse is a reason you give for not doing the right thing, I flat out admitted I was wrong, what are you having a hard time with?

Look Yodisd.  A seller can call the comic book perfect, destroyed, nice, amazing, wonderful.....doesnt matter.  It is your responsibility to examine the photos, look at the details you see in the pics and make your own determination of the grade.  Even is he used a comic grading term like VG+ or VF its still your job as a buyer to look at all the pics and judge for yourself.  Now, if the pics are not clear....DO NOT BID ON IT.  This is my advice, its also a very cheap lesson.  I know people who have made that mistake for thousands and not $22.  Good luck in the future and hope not too many people on here Ban or block you because im sure that will greatly ruin your life.

    Ha, thank you solar boy

oh he keeps admitting it was his fault but wants ANSWERS as to whether it was fair to call the book a "nice copy". My question is why does it matter?

I just didn’t know it was ok to label a book with holes, tears, rips, tape and staples as a nice copy. Now I do! Thanks!

No one is faulting him for being a rookie.

The fact that he continues to blame the seller when no blame is warranted on the part of the seller is a big reason why people will end up blocking the OP. The inability of the OP to completely accept that he is in the wrong, while pushing blame on the seller without warrant...those are character flaws, not collecting flaws.

And how exactly is blocking someone on a message board threatening in anyway? Don't other people have the right to protect themselves from toxic customers, who have no other recourse of action but to publicly out an innocent seller over a reasonable auction? The OP was willing to risk damaging the seller's reputation, and since he is found in error, he should naturally accept the backlash to his own reputation.

People need to learn how to accept blame for their own poor actions. He bid on the auction NINE TIMES without bothering to look at the scans or read the auction and I'm supposed to feel sorry for the OP because the seller described it as a "nice" book? That doesn't fly with me.

If the OP said "you're right, it's my fault. I've learned a lesson."

Then no one would be talking about placing him on ignore lists.

I think it's irresponsible to coddle someone for bad behavior. I wouldn't do it for my own child, and I'm not about to do it for a grown adult.

This will be the sixth time I admitted I was wrong for not looking at the pictures better. I just felt it wasn’t right to label a book with tears, holes, tape and staples as a nice copy. I have been told by several people on here that is ok. Now I know. Thanks

  10. Honestly, I don’t know why so many people are attacking me and mad at me. I admit I am very, very new to comic book collecting and there is a ton I don’t know. I don’t think I ever put blame on the seller or said he wronged me in any way. I admitted several times I was wrong for not looking at the pictures better. For whatever reason, I have a hard time judging the conditions of the comics by looking at scans.  When I contacted the seller, I never accused him of any wrongdoing I just wondered if he accepted returns of which I was willing to pay the shipping ( I maybe could’ve called eBay for full money return and made a decent case but I didn’t). When he said he’d take the return I was thankful but the HE came up with the suggestion of a partial refund at which I suggested five dollars ( could’ve demanded ten, which I didn’t) and he was grateful. My whole reason for my post wasn’t to seek validation for being wronged but rather just to share my experience and see if maybe others had similar ones. Before I knew it I was being attacked and hated against.  I have been told by several people that it is ok to tell people that a comic book with tears, holes, rips, tape and staples is a nice copy. I respectfully disagree but if that is how the comic book works works then ok, thank you fir letting me know.  Honestly, I did not seek pity or to complain when I made this post and I’m sorry to anyone I made extremely upset. Thank you to anyone who gave me constructive feedback. Hopefully I won’t make the same mistake in the future and be able to judge the condition of the scans better but like I said for whatever reason it’s difficult for me to do so. After the first time I made that mistake I diligently read the item description, which is another thing I felt the seller could have done better but again, not pointing fault at him. Hopefully I’ll learn from this in many ways! Thanks everyone!!

There is no need for the name calling and the threats here.  He is clearly a novice comic collector/buyer.  But there is really no need to threaten by blocking him and calling him a clown.  Really not necessary in any way.

Solar Boy, thank you so so much. I can tell you’re a nice person. Thank you.

To be fair, EVERYTHING about grading and description of comics is subjective - THAT should be part of the lesson.

If you don't know the language, terminology, etc., or are INCAPABLE of applying a reasonable amount of due diligence, you are operating blindly in the dark.  EXPECT to get worked over by the ample amount of shysters, felons and ignoramuses that operate in this hobby.

    I agree thank you.

Review the bidding history on this item above-- what we have here is a thrill bidder or something. NINE times you bid on this item. NINE times you failed to look at the pictures where the description states "SEE SCANS"  as well as the text description.

Go whine somewhere else with this BS about "he called it a nice copy" -- clown.

This will be the fifth time I admitted I was wrong for not looking at the pics better.

Yes, you did nothing wrong. Just let it go and move on. You got the $5 back, and take this as part of your lesson. That is how many of us grow up by learning from mistakes and do better next time. I am not blaming you at all. I get what you are trying to say.

Some people see it as a “nice” copy in so many different views.

    Thank you

This is a case where they might deserve to be run off the boards. lol

My advice? STOP buying books immediately. Start reading the forums here and understand how comic collect works. You are spending money with what appears to be rudimentary knowledge at best. It's called LURKING and you would be served well to observe conversations and try to understand what is going on before you waste more money and the time of the veterans on this board. We are usually willing to help people who are new but being stubborn about what happened in a purchase is making you less likely to be helped and more likely to be ridiculed.

As someone once said-- "Donny-- you're out of your element"

I’ve admitted three times I was wrong for not looking at the pictures better.

please provide us your ebay ID. Then I can block you there and then on this forum. You are ridiculous.

How the heck do you think it’s ok for someone to label a book with tears, holes, staples and tape as a nice copy??
