Bottom line-- you screwed up and need to own your mistake if this book isn't what you expected. Continuing to fight this will result in everyone here asking for your ebay ID so they can block you.

You’re right, I did screw up and Ive owned it from the start, but you’re wrong, the bottom line is he called it a nice copy which was really misleading and wrong.

You got exactly what you were asking for-- our opinions. Just because we laid the blame on your inability to look at the pictures, doesn't mean the opinions are not valid. The seller could do a better job-- sure-- but ultimately you are responsible for looking at something beyond "well he said it was a nice copy". That is nonsense.

For most of us, this seems obvious. Starting a new thread instead of using one of the multitude of other ebay threads is alos unwarranted. This is not some special case where you got hoodwinked. It was a typical ebay sale that you did not do enough thinking about before you clicked the buy button. Do you understand how many sellers leave next to nothing in terms of description or use blurry photos? This seller was more than accommodating to your complaint. Most would have said-- return it or keep it. This is not working out for you the way you think it is probably-- perhaps because you are being unreasonable and a bit whiny. Is it a coincidence that literally no person has agreed with you that the tape on the spine is not obvious?

Again, I never ever once said I was wronged and I did nothing wrong. I admired I should have looked at the pictures better. As for what I was expecting from a 17 dollar book, this book is probably worth 1 or 2 dollars tops, so maybe just a LITTLE better. Also, what I do find extremely absurd is I don’t think I’ve seen one person say it was wrong of him to say it was a nice copy. Brushing it off as subjective or excusing it somehow. It no way was it right or excusable to label this book as a nice copy. But anyways thank for your time, input and opinions. That is what I was looking for.

OP - I think this should be let go...I wouldn't even ask for seller to credit you anything.  The pictures in the link are very clear.

Do you really think it was fair for the seller to refer to it as a nice copy?

IMO, this is all on the Buyer. How can his expectations be better than what the picture shows ? The OP's whole argument hinges on the use of the term 'nice'.  Not sure why he even posted this here. What does he want from us, validation that he was wronged ? 17 bucks seems a bit petty to go viral with. Sorry.

Hey, never once said either I or the seller was right or wrong, just stated what happened. For the record though, the pictures don’t show how bad the book really was, it’s hard to tell tape was all along the binding. I don’t think it would have been too much to ask to have had the defects listed in the item description.  Do you really think it was fair for the seller to refer to it a nice copy? Secondly, what is the purpose of chat boards? To start a discussion, right? That was my intent on posting. It had nothing to do with validation of being wronged as I never stated that I felt I was, I just stated facts of what happened. If you felt I was inferring I was wronged, that’s something you drew from the facts. The purpose of my posting was to start a discussion, get some feedback/opinions and maybe see if anyone had any similar experiences. Lastly, I’m not sure of the extent of your knowledge, but 25 replies to my post is a little ways off from being viral. Thanks.

Dude certainly stretched the definition of “nice”, but the pics clearly showed that this book was in chit shape.

Didn’t pay attention to pics like should’ve, was going off the part he said nice copy

  6. Hi,  I just bought an amazing Spider-Man 29 off eBay for 17 dollars (plus 5 for shipping). There were pictures but couldn’t tell much, but the listing said it was a nice copy. When I got the book it was in brutal shape.  I think the front cover was detached because there were staples all along the binding. Also there was a long strip of tape on top of the staples along the binding. There were also rips on the top and bottom of the cover. I contacted the seller to see if he accepted returns and he said he didn’t and asked what the issue was. I told him the book was in really rough shape and he said it was a nice copy. He said I should’ve been able to tell the shape if it from the pictures . Ultimately he said he’d accept a return or if I wanted he would refund me five bucks and I could keep the book. That is what I chose to do. What do you think?

Hit the analyze price button (upper right corner).  Pretty simple once you go in there.

When I hit the analyze price button the search bar comes up. Then I search for amazing Spider-Man and it returns a bunch of amazing Spider-Man titles and the year but no issue numbers.  What the heck?

Well you can look here and see what the number equates to a grade:

    https://www.cgccomics.com/grading-scale/

    So a "7.0" would be a Fine/Very Fine

Haven't bought an Overstreet in years, but the older ones I have break down values by Fine (6.0) and Very Fine (8.0). So a 7.0 would be in the middle of that range.

Then you can search eBay for something like "amazing spiderman 51" and see what a Fine/Very Fine or a 7.0 is going for.

GPA is a paid service that shows the value of slabbed books from certain web sites:

Also watch auction closes on ComicLink.com and Comicconnect.com, mycomicshop.com and the sales threads on the boards.

    Good Luck!

I just subscribed to GPA, how do you look up what books are worth?

They track Heritage.  Don't believe they track comiclink.

I don't think GPA would accept data from a buyer but you can certainly contact GPA and ask.  I'm guessing GPA doesn't track sales from Amazon or Facebook.

Thought I should also mention that GPA won't record a sale if it's obvious the auction has been shilled.

It’s difficult looking up book values on GPA

GPA is a summary of what slabbed (CGC) copies have sold for.  If you are trying to sell or buy a raw copy of a book it's best to look at E-Bay sold listings or Overstreet if you can't find anything on E-Bay.  But realize Overstreet prices are 90% of the time way over the prices you can actually get in real life.  But it is at least a tool to get you in the right area.

    Thanks

GPA says in 2017 the high price was $178 for a CGC 7.0 and a low price of $78 for a slabbed CGC 7.0.

    That's you're one free lookup :)

Thanks, someone on eBay was asking 80 dollars for Spider-Man 51 7.0, I offered 60 and he took it but I’m wondering what a Spider-Man 51 7.0 is worth

The signature would not affect the grade at all at this level.

The second photo in the eBay listing is an enlargement of the signature area.

I've missed things before on eBay listings, such as "centerfold missing".

I also bought an amazing Spider-Man 12 they said was in good 2.0 condition,  see if you can find that one and tell me what you think?
