  1. Yes, Allen was a very nice man. I'm glad that you got to speak with him a couple of times. One of my flagship conventions was Tampa Bay Comic Con, and Allen lived not too far south of Tampa. We were lucky with that proximity which allowed us to feature Allen at the con several times. That picture I have with him was from San Francisco Comic Con. Amazing that he was still traveling and enthusiastic at that age. He was so kind. What was it like meeting Jack? Good luck at the conventions! I hope you meet some great creators and make some great memories.

  3. I always had nice interactions with Neal. Yes, he did irritate some fans. I never got that feeling from him though. We had Bernie Wrightson at Indiana Comic Con one year. He was very sick by then. I barely talked to him. He just wasn't a chatty guy. Maybe it was because of his health/mental state, which I can understand. Too bad I didn't get to meet him in the prime of his health.
  4. Some of the nicest creators I've met were those pictured below: Pablo Marcos, Allen Bellman, and Ron Wilson. I wouldn't call any of them among my "hero creators", but I will say that Marvel 2-In-1 Annual #7 pencilled by Ron Wilson is among my favorite comic books. Other creators that I always had great interactions with that come to mind are: Neal Adams, Bob Camp, Dave DeVries, Mike Perkins, Arvell Jones, Joe Giella, Carl Potts, Khoi Pham, Sean Chen, and Mike Mayhew.
  5. That's awesome that you got to meet so many greats. I'm assuming these guys were among your meets: How was your experience with Jack Kirby or John Buscema?
  6. How many of you have met your heroes from the world of comics? For those of you that have, please share your experiences! From 2010-2021, I owned and operated comic conventions, and as a result was able to meet a lot of wonderful creators. For years, we were bringing in approximately 20 creators per convention. We had some incredible talent come through our doors. I've always called George Perez my favorite comic book artist of all-time. There's that saying, "Don't meet your heroes". There's countless stories of everyone's wonderful experiences meeting George Perez. I'd like to say I had such a wonderful experience with George, but unfortunately mine wasn't as magical as most. George wasn't mean or rude, but he wasn't particularly friendly or open either. I'd want to chat with him, but he'd give me the cold shoulder. My only reasoning that I can come up with as to why, is that he was stressed or overwhelmed by his lines at our conventions. I never got to meet any of my other heroes from the Golden Age and Silver Age, such as Jack Kirby or Stan Lee. I did get to meet Dave Cockrum at Heroes Con in 2006, which was one of my favorite experiences at a convention. Dave is definitely one of my comic book heroes. This was my first out-of-state convention, and only four months before Dave passed away. Dave was such a nice guy to me. He signed my X-Men #105 and #107. I also had an X-Men #99 price variant that Dave signed and it was CGC signature series'd. I wish I got a picture with Dave.
  7. That's very sad to hear. He seemed like such a nice guy and was such a big contributor to the community here. Way too young to go.
  8. 20 years! This place wouldn't be the same without you; there'd be nearly 50,000 fewer posts padding the stats.
  9. Price drop! FF #52 CGC 6.5 is now $1,095! Looney Tunes #196 CGC 9.6 is now $195!
  10. I'm at the point where I pretty much only buy comics at conventions. The only time I'll buy online is if the seller is very reputable or if it is CGC graded. I recommend doing page counts of all books that you purchase that are worth any sort of significant money to you. I've been working on a mid-grade (5.0-7.0, mostly) X-Men run for years, so often times a random Silver Age book that I'll purchase will be around $30-$50 each. I'll take each one out of the bag and do a full inspection. That's checking the grade, resto check, and a page count. There's too many books out there for even the best dealers to fully inspect each book in their inventory. Lots of books, unknowing to the dealer, might have missing pages, cut coupons, or resto. That's the real benefit of buying in-person, so take advantage.
  11. One of the Hemsworth's showed up at my 10,000 post party in Miami Beach! One of the muscle guys, not the stout one. He did in fact couch surf. I believe Steve Buscemi let him sleep on his couch as long as he bought the Bud Light.
  12. Nice books! It's difficult to determine if I'd consider your purchase to be a good deal or not. But my general inclination is that you paid high on them, assuming generally mid grade books. But that doesn't matter too much. They are cool books either way. Furthermore, you got experience. We've all paid more for books than we should have at some point. It takes time/experience to understand the market and all the in's and outs of things. I hope you enjoyed the convention and enjoy the books!
  13. I didn't see that question posted. Yes, years ago I did have aspirations of releasing a comprehensive guide to comic book collecting. In some ways it is largely a report as it was a significant compiling of data. Some of that data was from experts on these boards. Included was to be the printing process of a comic book, a grading guide, restoration overview, and a pedigree collection overview. I brought a manuscript to WW Chicago 2008, I believe. I still have the document sitting on my hard drive. I don't know if I'll ever do anything with it. The market for such a tome is so niche.
  14. You're very welcome. That was a long time ago. We first met on the Comic Price Guide forums. 🙂 Thank you for being a great part of the community.
  15. Thanks for the kind words. That was a fun show. It was great hanging out at the show. I love Heroes Con. We have to meet up again. Do you still attend Heroes? Ah, that Detective #29 was lovely. That's one of the few books that I miss.
  16. Whew, what a night! We had my 10,000 post party at Fontainebleau in Miami Beach. I'm nursing a raging hang over, but well worth it. It was a great turnout. A lot of great memories were made. Jimmy [Carter] blitch slapped Henry [Cavill] when Henry said, "That old man couldn't chug a thimble of water, much less a double Hennessy." Jimmy showed him up good. Taylor Swift was jamming on the piano in the lobby for a while. I'm not into her pop stuff so much, but she's got talent. You guys should've seen when Hemsworth threw Bobby [Dinero] into the pool from our third story balcony. It was hilarious. Bobby was so drunk that Shaq had to fish him out of there, lest he make a permanent home in Davy Jones' locker. I won't even go into Elon's [Musk] "pie eating" meltdown. Gisele [Bundchen] kept taking selfies with me all night which was weird. Thanks so much to all of you guys for the snide remarks. I'll forever cherish your phony congratulations and hollow cheer. That's the great thing about this place. Whenever you need someone to step on your toes or shove a knife in your back, you can always count on the CGC boards to make sure you're taken care of. You guys are the reason I love to hate, and for that I'm grateful. Below are some more congratulations highlights that came in overnight.
