  1. The only difference is, there are very few AF #15s out there, whereas Hulk 181s are quite plentiful. Same with GSXmen 1. Logic tells me to go after a high-demand book with low supply. So I recently put an Amazing Spider-Man #4 on layaway. 181 seems a bit too much like Bitcoin right now. Some may not agree, but I'm going to hold off and see what happens.
  2. At least from the current prices, it would appear that Hulk #181 is a bigger key than Giant-Size X-Men #1. Yet the latter introduces more major characters all at once, and it's a brand new superhero lineup for a major comic title. Hulk 181 just introduces one new character.
  3. Dang it - you're right. I got carried away with my new acquisitions.
  4. Considering the cost of a higher grade GS X-Men #1, is there a good place that takes longer term payments (longer than three months like my local comic shop) that you would recommend?
  5. I can get a GS X-Men #1 at around 5.0 for $600, and an FF #12 (vs. Hulk) for about the same at around a 4.0. Much lower supply on the FF #12, but I think the demand is higher with the GS X-Men, even though the supply is also higher (just like Hulk #181). It's almost a certainty that the X-Men are going to be rebooted by Marvel Studios, and that's only going to drive the first X-Men appearance up. But there's something about that FF 12 cover that's just - magnetic. Everybody seems to want it. So I can't decide which to save up for. Any other thoughts?
  6. Both of these issues bring back a major Golden Age character into the Silver Age - the Sub-Mariner and Captain America. They also seem to be about the same price on eBay. Is one better than the other as far as investment goes? It seems to me that the movies are impacting the comics' value to a large degree. Captain America has been out for several years now, and Avengers #4 is only even with FF #4 in price. If Subby ever makes it to the screen, it *should* make that issue rocket past Avengers #4. I'm just thinking out loud here, but it seems to make sense.
  7. If a comic has minor restoration (like a color touch-up), does this significantly impact the value of a comic? Particularly if it's a key issue? I'm looking at one slabbed comic by CGC that's expensive and a major key - AND it's signed by Stan Lee. But it has the small amount of color touch on the cover and an "apparent" 3.5 grade. Is this really going to be a factor when it's time to sell it?
  8. Holy moley! Strange Tales #1, Journey Into Mystery #1, Tales To Astonish #1, Tales Of Suspense #1, and Amazing Adventures #1! The big ones! Those alone would bring you probably $30K on eBay. Are these recent acquisitions or copies you bought years back when they were semi-affordable? I was going to speculate that you must only collect pre-hero Atlas comics - but since you seem to have them all, you're obviously collecting other things now!
  9. I don't believe that Marvel Studios/Disney owns the rights to Rom anymore.
  10. Most people aren't comic people like us - they have no idea who Ms. Marvel is. But once the movie previews and movie itself comes out, that's when her popularity is going to really gain traction. IMHO, it would be a foolish time to sell this issue.
  11. I only bought it last summer, I believe. I wasn't aware of all the nuances of the labeling, unfortunately. I only went by the number. In my case, the 7.5. Looks like I'll be selling this copy on eBay as-is, recoup whatever I can get for it, then buy a *real* 7.5 or so, and no doubt spend a lot more money.
  12. Why do you say that? The movie hasn't even come out yet to further drive up its popularity.
  13. What the - ? I know it's not you're doing, but I'm not buying a comic on what the grade *would have been*, but on what the actual grade is. That's like saying, well this comic would have been a 7.5 if not attached - but since it's not attached, it's a 3.0. How am I suppose to know what the actual grade is, then? I'm starting to feel like I've been ripped off on this one, thinking I got a 7.5 when it's *actually* something much lower.
  14. My bad - the grade on mine is 7.5, not 7.0. And it simply says "detached cover"; no elaboration (see attached image). Funny that I never saw the fine print on it when I bought it on eBay. It wasn't mentioned in the sales spiel. If I'm paying for a 7.5 copy of anything, I don't want it having a detached cover, anyway, anyhow.
  15. I have a Marvel Superheroes #12 graded at a 7.0. It looks very nice to the eye, but I noticed that CGC stated that it has a "detached cover" in the small print. Does this mean the cover isn't even attached to the book? How could a comic rate a 7.0 with part of the cover not attached? That seems like a pretty significant defect. I know I'd think twice about buying a comic with the cover loose.
  16. If I'm going to drop a grand or more on one comic, it's going to have to be a Schomburg cover! It's like a work of art.
  17. I'll be searching for a decent Golden Age comic at the big convention this May with a WWII cover, preferably with a German cover. I really like the Marvel Mystery Comics title, but I'd be willing to also examine Captain America. Does MMC generally run more expensive than CA, or vice versa? Is one easier to find than the other? My budget will only go up to about $1200 - absolute max , and I really don't want to go under a 4.0 grade-wise.
  18. I would love to own a lower grade Marvel Mystery Comics 46. But neither eBay, Heritage Auctions, ComicConnect, nor Comic Link have it under $4,500/4.5 (no surprise there, it's such a rare book). Does anyone know where else I might be able to locate it?
  19. Yeah, I realized that after a saw a similar topic in that forum. Oops.
  20. I was considering trying to get a lower grade copy of Hulk #181 at this summer's big Comic Con, but upon browsing eBay I saw that copies at just 3.5 are going for $900.00?! Are you kidding? I'd have to drop a Grand just to get a 4.0 copy - if that? I know Wolverine was in the movies, helping to drive up prices, but is he really this popular? Or are speculators driving up the price into a nice price bubble that's going to bust soon? It can't keep going up like it is. Reminds me of the dot.com bubble of the late 90s in a way. I'm suspicious of these outrageous prices. I may just find a good Marvel Mystery Comics issue (my Golden Age favorite) that's under $1,000. I *know* those are in demand and will go up every year.
  21. Being the first appearance of Carol Danvers, aka Ms. Marvel, and the fact that she's going to have her own movie next year AND be in the Avengers movie, I can't see how this comic can't do anything except rocket upward in value. I already have a copy and I'm thinking of picking up another one. If i was just after a profit, I'd stop buying everything and just buy up MSH #13 - but I want too many other things, too. :>)
  22. Thanks! I'm going after my favorite Atlas covers right now, and that #10 was my favorite, I think, followed closely by that #30. I want #13 next, followed by TTA #7, unless some crazy bargain finds me first.
