  1. Avengers #4 CGC 5.5 -- $1500 $1425 $1375 (shipped and insured) A nice mid-grade copy of an Avengers classic. As everyone knows it's the first Silver Age Captain America appearance. It's been in my collection for a while and I never did get Stan to sign it. *sigh* I don't want to sell it but I have to pay bills... Last GPA is $1450 so I've included the shipping and insurance etc. in the price. The lower grades are moving up on this one right now. * No probies, HOSer, or generally bad people. Low post count, I may request reference. * Shipping AND insurance to the continental US included. Anywhere else we'll work out. * No return on CGC books (unless obviously it's damaged, etc.). * Paypal preferred. * In thread beats PM. * I'll listen on any offer as usual (PS: My scanner always blurs the labels some. I can take a picture of it if you want)
  2. Startling Terror Tales #11 CGC 4.0 OWW -- $1250 shipped to the continental US. LB Cole Greatness! Fairly hard to find. The sun fading really killed this grade but still, a 2.0 just sold for $1030!
  3. I'm using an Epson Workforce right now and it can't focus on the book. I've tried all the settings and combinations. It's crazy. I'm shopping at the moment for a new (used) Microtek as recommended per the scanner thread.
  4. Special Edition Comics #1 CGC 4.0 OW -- $SOLD Pretty early appearance of Captain Marvel on a CLASSIC cover!
  5. Maybe one or two more DC for tonight, I think... Green Lantern #86 CGC 9.0 OWW -- $150 Not pressed or cleaned. I submitted it myself. Might be a good one to crack and have Mr. Adams sign and resub.
  6. Here's another: Action Comics #252 CGC 3.5 CROW -- $1275 First Supergirl, of course. The TV show is coming back for the Fall Season soon. Last GPA was $1185 but mine includes shipping and insurance and takes paypal fees into account. (Personally I think this book still has room, but I'm impatient for various reasons. And I just picked it up at Rose City too. )
  7. If only! He already owns most of my old Golden Age collection.
  8. Start with the rules: * No probies, HOSer, or generally bad people. Low post count, I may request reference. * Shipping & insurance to continental US included. Anywhere else we'll work out. * 15 day return on raws, none on CGC books. * Paypal preferred. * In thread beats PM. * I'll listen to any reasonable offer. Action Comics #242 CGC 5.0 CROW -- SOLD! (A 5.5 sold this year for $5500) Since my scanner blurs books in the new slabs I'm posting the raws too. This book was not pressed or cleaned.
  9. If you're trying to get published by an existing publisher then this is a major rule. And yet, that's STILL not enough. I'm a professional comic letterer and localization manager for manga and BD translations. We work with publishing companies all the time. I have a dozen plus creator friends making comics in the industry. I have written comics and published a mini-series through Image in the 90's. I know tons of editors, managers, and even comic company owners. I've worked as a comic journalist and interviewed some of the biggest names. Yet I still can't get work as a writer based on just a -script. You need to produce a complete product. You need to make a 96-page graphic novel structured as if it were four 24-page issues in a complete story arc. It needs to be written, penciled, inked, colored (usually), lettered, laid out, and practically print-ready. And even then most publishers won't take it unless you have other published work! (And of course it has to be good. They have to like it.) You might think you'd be better off doing it yourself through Kickstarter. But there are other perils on that path. Not the least of which is getting into stores or worse getting distribution from Diamond (I believe the threshold now is 5,000 copies.) Without a community of backers ready to pre-buy you cannot thrive on Kickstarter (unless of course your artist is the next <fill-in-the-blank-for-today's-hotness>. And even then you need publicity.) This is what you need, in no specific order, to make it in comics: 1) Persistence 2) Hard Work 3) Talent 4) Luck 5) Connections 6) Money 7) Timing 8) Marketing 9) A compelling story or vision It's not easy at all.
  10. Grade is in! It's a 5.0 CROW! Too bad my scanner sucks or I'd post it in the holder.
  11. Werewolf By Night #32 CGC 8.5 OWW -- $1100 shipped. (I can send better pix if you need it. My iPhone 4S camera sucks and my scanner is all blurry on the new cases.)
  12. Avengers #87 F+ CROW $75.00 (Note damage at the bottom of the cover or the book would grade much higher...)
  13. Avengers #80 F+ OWW $25.00 (Note that the impact ding on the upper right corner goes through the whole book)
