  1. Anywhere I've ever worked, the people who stole were rarely brave enough to initiate the theft on their own. It was almost always a learned or shared occurrence.
  2. I hadn't even thought of that. I have only been thinking of the build-up to this, not the current ramifications and aftermath. My imagining has been: What books were used as practice? What books were used as 'they've got to catch this one' and made it through? How many people were involved? How many accounts do they have that board detectives and/or CGC haven't found? People getting something other than what is "guaranteed" just sits wrong with me whether it's a $20k book or a $20 book. CGC is a victim too, but until I have a better understanding of this whole mess I'm not going to shake the feeling they were only a victim because they asleep at the wheel.
  3. My biggest concern with this is the number of books affected. CGC has been the beneficiary of some great detective work done by people on these boards (and off). CGC has set the number of books affected at 350, but the ones doing the legwork have said that number is certainly higher. If CGC didn't catch the problem, and are playing catch-up to those who have, how can they confidently say how many books have been affected?
  4. That was one of my first thoughts. Now, having trouble logging in here, but able to list on and change his f-bay handles. Hmmm. I developed a theory early on in my service industry career: The longer a story goes, the more likely that it's false. The truth takes but a few words. I hope everyone gets their books back or, if sold, a fair value; I hope this guy gets a punishment appropriate to what he's put people through; I hope he can get the help he needs or can muster the willpower to get his life back on track.
  5. I think, and I could be very mistaken, that some of the issue is not just the book swapping, but also shill bidding by the people that are at the center of this. Swapping out the books and manipulating slabs is the headline, but the shill bidding and price manipulation are also a key component of the overall. Side note: as a non-slabber still learning about the hobby, I'm happy to see all the "Joined" dates with two zeroes popping up in this thread.
  6. @Readcomix knocked it out of the park! Signed books, Canadian price, Mark Jeweler Insert, DC Universe logo, first issues, last issues; just a great mix. The pulp is going to the top of the read pile. Great stuff! Thanks again!!
  7. Got a nice package in the mail today from @Readcomix (sorry for the overpack job @AlexH and @ThatNerdyCanuck) Looing forward to getting into this stack and sharing what's there when I get the time later!
  8. If it can be proven that this person is working with others, I'd hope a list of every one of their submissions is posted as well.
  9. This was in the QC thread. I am pretty sure it was the same one scanned in though. Reading this thread made me think of all the ?? in the QC thread and this was one of the more recent. "Hey you missed the Canadian Price" seemed as easy to say as "Hey you missed the MJ."
  10. Is the only way to look up those past f-bay sales through subscription sites? (Asking for someone less tech savvy than the surviving WWII Vets.) I'd be curious to see how many ASM 192, 361, MSH 15, MS5, SW1 books zaneglor sold. I agree with those who think this is the tip of the iceberg.
  11. Maybe to be a little more specific; Any new books? Is there a solid timeline of how long this has been happening? Any solid leads on how this is happening; inside guy, lax policies, loophole in reholdering? Just one person or a group operation?
  12. Just getting back after five days away. Any chance someone can sum up the last 110 pages?
  13. In please. Thanks for the reminder @Get Marwood & I! I will be happy to pad the floor for so many of you!
  14. I won't be able to pick live. I'll be back online on the 31st or 1st. Looking forward to sending out the raffle prizes and beyond grateful for whatever prize comes up on my list. Thanks @The Sledder and elves for all your time and efforts organizing and executing the raffle!
  15. Just wanted to second, third, fourth, or whatever this thought. Going to be offline for a bit and I'm going to miss seeing the incredible work you guys are doing. Hopefully I'll have the time to catch up on the next 100 or so pages that will accumulate over the next few days.
  16. I don't have any skin in the game. I feel awful for everyone who has books and/or money tied up in this mess. My two cents: I wouldn't call the local news. I'm not sure how many criminals watch the late night news but I also wouldn't want to advertise the value of goods potentially in this guy's home, who may/may not be frequenting doctors and/or a hospital. I wouldn't continue to discuss possible legal ramifications, strategies, etc. Maybe it's nothing, but I would be concerned this thread would save his lawyer some leg work. (I could be wrong here, but I wouldn't want to give any assistance at all to his legal aid). Find a point person, get as complete a list of names, dollar amounts and books that you can, send that point person bourbon, comics, etc., let the point person run a summary up whatever flagpole it needs to be (local, state, fed), wait. I hope everyone gets full remediation plus a pain and aggravation bonus. If this guy has health issues, I hope they clear up. It seems that even if they do, he's got some bigger issues to deal with ahead.
  17. Words: Prize: 7 Moon Knight first series (26, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33) all in stages of VF. Shipped to US or Canada. I think 29 could be improved so I included a solo pic showing some of the NCB stuff, but also because that all black cover is such a stunner (THIS book in particular is tough to give up). As much as I like 29, I think 31 is the best of the bunch. 32 and 33 are near the lower end of VF.
  18. Words: Prize: 9 Walmart Exclusive covers, 10 lenticular covers shipped anywhere in US or Canada. VF or better.
  19. I absolutely agree with this, mistakes do happen. It seems that with video of the package being opened and about a month of time, there should already be a solution. Maybe the OP didn't send the magazine, maybe he did. There's a video that would go a long way to proving it and one person, for certain, who should be able to see that video to address that concern. Kudos to those of you who continue to send books in without fear, or with the knowledge, that CGC will do right by you.
  20. Any chance the reason it's a 4.5 instead of a 3.0 is that it costs more to grade a 4.5 than a 3.0?
  21. Also, I've seen companies that print GA books for around $15, can't they just do the same for TMNT? If I were in the market for a fake TMNT #1, I'd probably go that route. Then I would have a much, much nicer copy for about $1475 less.
  22. They should just send them back and let the submitter know they are counterfeit but...
  23. This is exactly how I'm building my collection. I've been thinking of looking into pence copies for some of the higher valued books that I'd like down the road. mycomicshop.com and these boards have been tremendous resources for me.
