  1. There are two versions to Flash 96, the "regular" DCU edition and an actual second printing. The "regular" DCU is from 1994. The second printing is from 1996 (based on the advertisements -- the indicia shows 1994 like the original does). The front covers are identical (the first printing is on the left and the second printing is on the right): The back covers have different ads (again, the first printing is on the left and the second printing is on the right): The inside front cover of the first printing: The inside front cover of the second printing (note that it does say second printing in very bottom right corner): A close-up of the indicia:
  2. Thanks for that background on how the list began. Before I go further, I do want to acknowledge that I recognize that there are people here who have contributed years and hundreds (if not thousands) of posts to these boards -- and I have done neither. And I also acknowledge that starting a list of DCUs "from scratch" is no easy undertaking. That said, I think the standard to make this list should be confirmed existence. Proving a book does *not* exist is impossible for everyone except maybe the publisher or printer. I saw a post from a few weeks back where someone asked about a DCU for Batman Adventures 21. Someone responded and said it doesn't exist. To be frank, we don't know that. We do know that it was pictured on a Best of 1994 pack but that pack contained a bat symbol edition (the other books in that pack were DCUs, though). And we know that no one here has seen a copy. All of that is compelling evidence to say that it doesn't exist, but it's not proof (for the record, I happen to agree that it doesn't exist, especially, because I shared earlier, I think it's unlikely that there is a Batman Adventures book with both a bat symbol edition and a DCU edition). In my original post, with Batman Adventures 18, Animaniacs 16 and AoS 530, we simply cannot prove that those do not exist. I shared my rationale for why I'm reluctant to think that they do -- but that's not proof. That's why I think the burden is on proving that they do exist in order to keep them on the list. As a little background on that initial list, I went back to the earliest version I could find (which I used the list from December 31 near the bottom of the first page of this thread -- it looks like the original post had been updated on occasion so I avoided that one). There are 356 DCUs on that list. 5 have since been removed (Action 693 and 694, for example, which are DC bullets not DCUs). That means only 351 from that original list stand. The current list has 522. So the initial list has only 67% of the current list. I share those numbers in no way to discount or disregard the work that went into creating that initial list -- but rather to highlight the benefit of having opened up the discussion "to the world." Collectively board members here have added 171 DCUs to that initial list. Certainly people are free to compile whatever lists they want. But if the goal really is to have a definitive list of DCUs, I think that it should contain only those that are proved to exist, not those that are suspected to exist.
  3. Thanks for the correction. I'm pretty sure the copy I have was from a 2-pack that I bought new at our local toy store in the early 90s but then (gasp) opened it because who would ever want a *sealed* pack? Ahhh, to be young and uninformed again...
  4. This is a great site. Thanks for compiling this. I've been an avid collector of the DCUs for years. It looks like I have a few new ones to add to the list: Aquaman 4 Superman: The Man of Steel 50 And Flash #94 "stickered" (for the secondary list, maybe not the master list) The Flash 94 is hard to see from this picture, but you may be able to tell that the DCU logo is not in the box. On the comic itself, I can clearly see a barcode behind the sticker (too hard to see if it's the direct or newsstand code). Now, I have a question about the master list. Where did that come from? Specifically, was there photographic evidence of comics before they got added? A post a few days ago asked about Batman Adventures 18. As that post indicated, there is a bat symbol edition. I've never seen a DCU edition, though. With #17, there is a DCU edition but I've never seen a bat symbol edition. I think each of #14 - 30 has a bat symbol edition or a DCU edition -- but I've not seen one with both. So with 18, there is definitely the direct market, the newsstand and the bat symbol editions. A DCU edition would make a fourth version. Likewise, I question Animaniacs 16. There is an edition that was in a 2-pack. The "flipside" was a DCU (Pinky & the Brain 1 DCU I think -- but I could be wrong on that). But the Animaniacs 16 had the Warner Brothers "READING" logo. So if there is a DCU of Animaniacs 16, then there are four different editions -- the direct market, the newsstand, the WB logo and the DCU. Like with the Batman Adventures 18, I've only seen evidence of one "special" edition -- not both. Lastly, I question Adventures of Superman 530. Between this master list and the ones I have, there are about 525 reported DCUs. I spent time looking at the cover dates. Right now, AoS 530 is the only DCU listed with a December 1995 cover date. That seems suspicious. Of course, I say that but there is also October 1994 where there is only 1 (Damage 0). The others that month were the Zero Hour editions. So it's very possible that there is an AoS 530 that was the lone 12/95 cover date book in some random 2-pack. But I think it's also possible that, for whatever reason, DC skipped that month. So, as a quick summary, the list is missing is Aquaman 4 and Superman: MoS 50. And, it seems that the stickered editions were being compiled as a secondary list, so there's also Flash 94. And, I'm really skeptical about Batman Adventures 18, Animanics 16 and AoS 530 and would love to know how/why those were thought to exist.
