I've come to realize that finding high quality bags/sleeves and boards for OA is very difficult. The sleeves and boards that I purchased around 10 years ago don't seem to be available anymore. Or am I not looking in the right place?

My preference is the open-top Mylite sleeves with fullback boards. I'm not sure the thickness of the Mylite; probably equivalent to a Mylite 4. I can't find the sleeves or boards available anywhere. I believe Hotflips was where I purchased them previously years ago, but they no longer offer those products.

Currently, the only options I can find are Mylite 2 bags (with foldable flap) and standard thickness boards. The same thickness you'd find on normal comic book boards. The bags are okay. I'd prefer the other sleeves, but they're not bad. The boards are the important part here. The currently available boards are so much more flimsy than the fullbacks. Here's a fullback and the standard board next to each other to compare flimsiness.

Here's the combo I'm looking for:

Here's the only combo readily available in today's marketplace, that I could find:

Can anyone provide info on where to find what I'm looking for? Thank you!

the ones you are looking for reagarding the bags without sleeves from EGerber are the Mylar Bags and Sleeves described as Archives those don't have flap and are 4 mil mylar. Then for the Full Backs you have to call them. They used to produce them in whatever size you'd need and won't appear in their site. They stopped producing them for a while but last time I bought from them in 2021 they had them back as an option but I am not sure if they still do. I've always had an answer from them when I've called and if they haven't answered they must be on the ohine with another customer. I recomend not to leave a message expecting a call back from them just try again in 30 minutes. I stopped using the full backs on regular art boards and now I only use them on pieces that come in flimsy paper. Hope this information is of service to you.

  2. I usually look at Signature Auction items online but this time I went through the catalogue first. Your auction is not the only one that got a wrong picture in the catalogue I at least noticed 1 more with this error. In both instances the picture that was published is of a previous lot. As others have stated I would take the lower fee (and would try to ask them for an even lower fee than they've offered before accepting). Relisting will only cost you more money if you have taken an advance and people really mostly look at items online as you can get a bigger picture and a look at the complete page instead of only the cropped image.

IMO the 375 was the one to go for. If you collected comics in that era you probably had or still have this book in a long box being the 30th Anniversary gold foil cover, not to mention it's regarded as one of if not thee best spidey vs venom battle issue of that era and has a direct tie into, or I should say leads into Venom Lethal Protector #1. The 375 pages as mentioned in the description for the auction just never come up and are held close to the chest, only 1 has been offered ever on Heritage, which was another panel page, not a splash, sold last year for $36k. This splash you're talking about was from 374, also coveted and part of the same battle, Heritage has only had 2 pages which both sold between $38-40k, one was returned and resold for $32k after frame was removed and found the page was adhered to a foamcore, which caused the page to ripple throughout.

On a side note, those bottom panels feature Anne Weying's first appearance freeing Peter's parents from Venom, she later becomes She-Venom in the comics and the Venom movies, played by Michelle Williams, not sure it adds value but still pretty cool.

The 379 I think was still a good deal and part of Maximum Carnage arc, great images, but more of a dialogue type of page and no battle, which is what collectors seem to gravitate to. Overall, great deals for both IMO, especially the 375.

I definitely think the 375 page was sold for a very low price. It is an anniversary issue and as you said it feaured Ann Weying's 1st appearance. Heritage has had better results IMHO.

  4. overall I'd like to hear people's thoughts on selling at ComicConnect. Would collectors who have consigned to them recomend them to sell art? As a buyer I think I got some great deals on the pieces I won. On others I was interested in the hammer price was just to high.

Has any received or know anyone who has received any art from them in the past few months?

I received a Jim Towe commission on 1/13/2024 so glad that it arrived before Cadence exploded. I only had to email back and forth since July of last year for them to finally ship it to me. Terible service I really hope most artist jump ship and look for a more reliable rep.

    Hey Doc,

Great idea.  I'm bringing about 100-150 pieces also for trade/sale. Here is the link to the art I'm bringing. I will be adding about another 20-30 pieces over the next couple weeks.

I like several pages of what you have posted thus far but that shouldn't surprise anyone as your collection is top notch! If you are open to trades I'll go by your table.

  8. I also have this copy of the Jim Lee X-Men Artist Edition Limited Variant cover by FanExpo signed by Jim Lee and authenticated by JSA. The book itself is a low number, this copy being 006/125 that I will also be looking to sell or trade to any interested parties. This variant cover is much more limited than the IDW variant cover and having Wolverine ready to battle Omega Red on the cover should make this book highly coveted by collectors. If you would like to purchase/trade any of the art I'm bringing or this book send me a private DM to make arrangements and reservations. You can definitely count o nthat any sales will be used towards art pruchases at OAX! lol

Ok- I’m just saying that saying someone took advantage of you is a negative saying. Like they ripped you off. But as we all know pricing art is subjective so if you didn’t like the evaluation you had other options. Rather than saying you were taken advantage of .

OP is asking for insight on dealer trade ins and that is my personal evaluation on my trade ins with Romitaman and Anthony. I've also done trade ins with a dealer in Ireland but I didn't share that insight. You may not agree with my POV but it is what it is as there doesn't exist a predetermined formula for OA trades be it with a dealer or with another collector.

Interesting- you say he “took advantage” - how do you mean?

if you didn’t like his evaluation why didn’t you just pay cash for your commitment then?

I'm sure it would have been different if I had shown the art before owing him money already. And I didn't pay cash because I didn't want to. I am continously monitoring auctions and sale prices for art so I think I have a good grasp on what a piece is worth.

  11. I've done a couple of trades with Mike Burkey and overall I was satisfied with the results on both ocassions. I did 1 deal with Anthony in order to pay for a DD win and wasn't really happy with that deal. Since I already owed Anthony I think he might have taken advantage of that when pricing the art I gave him in exchange but it is what it is.

It’s not like Los Bros are the only shady dealers. And people seem to forget an admitted shiller is part owner of CAF.
In the end, Bill is running a business and it’s not his job to police the comic art market, nor do I think he should be in that role.

Heritage shill bidder? I didn't know he owned part of CAF interesting.
