  1. That's crazy...must be nice to blow your wad so freely... Jim Guy must have really needed this book for his WH run, hence the high price. I must admit i am a little shocked at the price it went for too, but i guess i shouldn't talk after the price i paid for the Rosa House of Secrets 103, but man i love that black cover. However, i picked up the Rosa Adventure 431 in 9.6 at what i consider to be a steal. The last one i saw on ComicLink about a year or so ago sold for alot more. I love the Aparo Spectre run and this cover is a definitive Spectre illustation in my opinion. Thanks for letting me share. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...B%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...B%3AIT&rd=1
  2. Can't buy from you if i don't know you are selling. Send me a list of what you have for sale. I bought this one, even with the tanning, due to its appearance which i thought was pretty nice. Send me an email of what you have and maybe we can deal.
  3. I know that people have made note of some of the prices i have paid for raw books recently, but i didn't expect to outbid greggy on anything, even for a lower price book. Yay me!!!!!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6544100913&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEAFB%3AIT&rd=1
  4. I'm sure you will be able to finish the run as you already have the gems of the series. I have been meaning to ask you if you have always lived in North Carolina. I was born and raised there and moved to Texas in 2001 as my wife is originally from here and wanted to come back home. I miss NC alot. My mom still lives there but she is coming to see her grandbaby next month. I grew up in North Wilkesboro and had lived in Greensboro since 1988-2001. Have you ever been to Austin, or Texas for that matter?
  5. Sterling, I have to tell you that I am really impressed with your HOM registry. As I have stated before, my collection is all over the place, but feel that I have some really nice books. You, however, have taken it to a level with your almost complete run of awesome looking books. Seeing your books makes me wish sometimes that I didn't collect comics as if I had ADD.
  6. The Boris #34 was always one of the favorite covers of my dad's books when i was a kid. I remember thinking that it was Evel Knievel fighting the dragon, as i am sure i was not the only one to think so. It's funny how little things like that stick with you, such is the power of the comic medium.
  7. Wow Weird, those are very, very nice. The HOS 110 has always been one of my favorites. My dad had that issue when i was a little boy (he bought it new) and it always gave me the creeps while still being drawn to it. I have the copy now, worn though it is, but i can't imagine having the original art. I am very impressed. How long has it been in your possesssion?
  8. Welcome to the boards! I have bought books from Marty in the past which I was very pleased with and can concur that he has some sweet books. Some aren't as sweet as others, but he provides huge scans when they're asked for, and based on the scans he sent me from this round I agree that some of those books were definitely 9.4's and 9.6's! Nikkat's books on the other hand... I have to admit I understand what you mean. I have bought a few nice books from nikkat before, but even the nice ones were overgraded. I have a "NM- 9.2" actual 7.5 that I don't mind getting rid of now.
  9. No, I don't collect artwork, but I greatly appreciate it. The only piece of art that I own is an 8 x 10 sketch that Al Williamson did for me back in 1990. It is nice piece showing Flash Gordon jumping off of a cliff to do battle with a gigantic, sword wielding alien. Meanwhile a scantily clad damsel peers around the side of the cliff watching Flash come to her aid. There is also a classic Williamson style spaceship in the background. It was a quick sketch but I am really proud of it, because it was done for me and signed by Al. I had the chance to meet him a few times and he is a great guy.
  10. Thanks for the welcome guys. I guess it took this auction to break the ice for me. Do you guys remember the ebay House of Mystery 221 CGC 9.4 (Wrightson) recently and the DC Special #4 CGC 9.4 that was up a few months ago? Guilty on those too. But, for every book like that there is also a Funky Phantom #3 in CGC 9.4 too. See what I mean? My books are all over the place.
  11. Thanks everyone for the welcome. I am just like everyone else and don't like to pay more for an item than I have to, but sometimes it happens. redf1shing overtook most of my bids yesterday with some incredibly high ones, but I was not letting the WH#3 go. It was the book I wanted the most out of the auction, hence my high bid. My collecting interests are very eclectic and do not simply run the bronze age horror spectrum. I have some nice high grade pre-code horror that I am fond of. One goal I have is to upgrade my Avenger's run of books from the 130's to the 190's. I plan on keeping the originals of my youth, but I want nicer copies as I read my old ones a thousand times. You could go through my 5000 books and see that I am not a completist by any means. I just collect what "moves me". Here are some recent high grade bronze horror acquisitions for me. Thanks for letting me share. http://www.vaultauctions.com/?lotDetail&LOTID=8079 http://www.vaultauctions.com/?lotDetail&LOTID=8090
  12. Hi, let me start by saying that I have been looking at alot of the posts on these message boards for quite awhile now, but have not posted until now. I am glad that everyone thinks that the price I paid for the Witching Hour #3 from strongside on ebay was insane. Last time I checked it was none of your business. I have been collecting for the better part of 30 years and have been building a high grade collection for some time now, and this book is one I have wanted. As you can check, the census shows that there are only 5 9.4's and 3 9.6's. I have dealt with Marty for quite awhile now and I will say that some of his books are some of the nicest in my collection. I asked for supersize scans on all the books I bought from him, and communicated for the entire week about the books. We have spoken on the phone before about certain books. I have no doubt that the book will grade at the least a 9.4 and possibly a 9.6. I realize that the price I paid was high, but when it grades, and it will, it will not look that bad. I have compared some of the books I have bought from Marty with graded books from Jason Ewert's auctions on ebay, and I'm sorry, but my copies are nicer. I have no hesitation in stating that the House of Secrets 106, Phantom Stranger 19, House of Secrets 94, Witching Hour 18 and 19 that I have bought from Marty are 9.6's. The day I choose to have them graded, which might be never, you will see them on the census. Before anyone says to show us the books, let me say that I no longer own a scanner. My other one went on the blink, and have not seen about replacing it. I am not some yahoo, but sometimes you pay more for something of quality. The nm and nm/m books I bought from Marty yesterday were just that, quality.
