  1. Technically, since Wolvie IS an X-Man, #6 *could* be seen as the first Jim Lee X-Men book....
  2. Wait I thought first appearances had to occur within a story? It is a story. The first appearance of the Tick occurs within a story.
  3. I have 36 copies of each of #6 and #7 that are all pushing 9.8's (they come from the same collection in which I submitted 36 copies of X-Men #266 unpressed and got 34 9.8's, 1 9.6 and one 9.9). If I knew anybody would give me a dollar for them, I would have hand delivered them to you last weekend when I saw you in Baltimore. I would have taken your $72 and ran like a bandit. Jim #6. Not #7. I like #7, but there's not much in it. Great cover, but not like #6. But I'll still buy the #6s.
  4. Valiant was crazy. Nothing like it had been seen since the early days of Marvel. It was, and still is, Jim Shooter's greatest contribution to the comics industry. Unfortunately, they got greedy, kicked Jim out, and treated the property like an atm. It would have been like kicking Stan, Jack, and Steve out of Marvel in 1962. Massarsky is the villain. Bob Layton isn't much better.
  5. Hey, I tried. No one wants to make a "Modern Comics" and "New Comics" forum distinction, so everything from whenever anyone decides is "modern", whether it's 1990, 1992, 1995, or whatever, gets buried in "what's the latest hot Spider Gwen variant coming out????" You can forget trying to discuss comics that came out in, oh, say, 1997.
  6. OUTRAGE! (I'm not sure if that will ever get old...)
  7. Hey, look. If anyone has NM-ish multiples of #6, I'll happily buy them all for $1/ea. The more, the merrier.
  8. $7? Don't scoff, that's 600% more than I got when I sold this book at a con in June That's really a shame. This book was absolutely smoking hot in 1990-91. Punisher and Wolverine? Together?? Jim Lee??? (Well, ok, not at that point, but still...) Classic cover, the whole 9. Such a shame. I've always liked the cover to the next issue more Someone spent in excess of $12 to own that (when shipping is factored in). Was that ever even close to a $12 book in the 90s? Absolutely. It was a $25 book at one point (#6.)

  11. What if the $200 variant is now worth $400? Or $500? Or $1000? What if he bought TMNT 1 when it came out because everyone else wanted it? He would have had to have waited a longggg time to see that one pan out. At the height of the B&W craze, TMNT #1 was a $150-$300 book. That was 1986. By 1999, the book was $50-$100...if you could find a buyer. It's only been in the last 10 or so years that you would have seen much of a return on that "top price paid" in 1986. And, something a lot of people don't count on is death. People die. People die waiting to buy that one item that they really wanted, and they never get a chance to. Life is short, and unpredictable. Not everyone has the luxury of sitting on something for 10, 15, 20, 30 years to see some sort of profit if they bought at the height of a particular market.
  12. I have not put any of those out at shows yet, but I have been moving #509s fast at $10 apiece. I will be stickering #256s at $20 or $25 for the local October and November shows. What is that, like 48 cents US...? Lame. Not even worth the effort.

  14. Frankly, I don't know. I asked him to send them back, multiple times, and I would refund him. I have no idea what his issue really is. I suspect he wants 9.8 copies, at 9.2 prices, and doesn't have any idea how to grade. So, he gets books with a couple of CB spine tics, and it's the end of the world. If I had to guess, it sounds like he's quoting the written descriptions for grade designations from Overstreet or some other guide and applying them with electron-microscope precision. I haven't bothered to look, but I suspect it's from comicspriceguide.com or somesuch. It's clearly cut n' pasted. As Doktor said, he doesn't seem to have much of an understanding of pre-90's books. There's more, but that's the essential gist of what he's said. He said "negative review" in another response, so that should be enough. At first, I suspected that he might be setting up a scam, because his descriptions are so very bizarre..."dislocated spine", "reprinted cover"...but it appears now that he just doesn't know how to grade these types of books, and doesn't have a shred of humility.
  15. Here's the original complaint: "I was looking at these comics I recently purchased, the pages are bulging from the top, the pages are discolored, on top of that, it looks like someone reprinted the cover and then stapled it back together. This isn't "very high grade" at all, it's not even better than F/VF. Is there an explanation for this?!" (emphasis added) (This was sent last Wednesday, as I was on my way to B'More.) Here's the next one: "I messaged you a couple of days ago, regarding my purchase and you still haven't responded. I'm trying to contact you again. The comics I purchased were supposed to be "high grade", but the spine is dislocated, there's holes at the corner of the pages, the pages are extremely discolored and some of them seem to have black lines. On top of that the pages seem to be coming undone." (emphasis added. Of course, the pages aren't "extremely discolored", but the typical OW/W to White of 1988 comics.) Never...in nearly 20 years...have I ever heard anything so bizarre.
  16. What's really interesting is that he/she included pictures of the "damage": Oddly enough, four of them are of Batman #428, the other of #429. What about #426 and #427....? Other than typical overhang, anybody see anything special here?

  18. Big big problem buyer, here: fishyxliar I guess I should have paid attention to the user name. "Fishy Ex Liar".... Bought a Death in the Family set, advertised as "very high grade" (in truth, about 9.2-9.6.) Books were, of course, quite nice, the #426 and #429 being dead 9.6, while the #427 was a borderline 9.4/9.6, and the #428 probably about a 9.2. Buyer gets them and while I was away at Baltimore, filed a dispute (which automatically gives me a defect) and then wants to argue about the condition of the books, even "offering" to send them to CGC to "prove" they are really F/VFs. Because having no control over THAT situation would be totally smart.... In any event, told the buyer multiple times to send the books back, and he keeps wanting to argue. Name is Ares Jones, and he/she lives in Cutler Bay, FL. Latest message, which details the insanity: "Exactly, you know very WELL that these comic books aren't high grade, that you were lying about the comic books grade, and in fact, still lying. Superb condition, not true at all, I'll send it to you the same way I got them, nicely packaged, because they haven't even left the table after I opened them. I can't believe you're literally trying to tell me these are above 9.0, NEAR MINT : 9.4 NEAR MINT- : 9.2 This book is an excellent copy with great eye appeal. It is vibrant and clean with supple pages. The spine may have a couple of very small stress lines at the most 1/4 inch the surface color around the line must not be noticeably broken. The spine is almost completely flat. The cover is relatively flat with almost no surface wear and the cover inks are generally bright with medium to high reflectivity. The staples may show some discoloration, but it's not too noticeable on first glance. The inside pages and covers usually will be off-white to white, but can be creamy or slightly yellowish. Here's another one, does that say PAGES ARE OFF-CENTERED TO YOU? No. Didn't think so. AND LOOK AT THAT. FINE / VERY FINE : 7.0 Slightly better condition than FINE +: 6.5, but in lesser condition than the grade above. FINE+ : 6.5 FINE : 6.0 FINE- : 5.5 This comic is definitely a well-read copy, but can still be a very desirable copy. This could have one major defect like a larger piece out of the cover (1/4 inch to 1/8 inch) or a one-inch plus tear. It has stress lines around the staples and creases from the opening and closing of the cover. The whiteness of the pages has been changed to off-white to yellowish color. This could have a reading or subscription crease or a rolled spine, but is not damaged enough to reduce eye appeal dramatically. Some discoloration, fading in colors and even minor soiling is allowed. The cover and/or inside pages could have minor tears and/or folds Cover can be loose from one staple, but cover cannot be completely detached from interior. Pages and inside covers could be brown but not brittle. Depending on the grade of the copy certain amounts are available in this grade. i.e a book that looks 8.0 with a piece of tape on the interior cover is acceptable in this grade. DID THAT JUST SAY A LOW GRADE HAS A ROLL? WHICH IS OFF CENTERED? HUH. S H O C K I N G. On top of that, I shouldn't have to pay return on damaged products, that I was lied to about. Glowing review, can't wait!" Which, of course, is threatening negative feedback, which you can't do (or, at least, you USED to not be able to do), so I will have it removed. Tough when you get a lunatic.
  19. And Bronies weirdos. Don't forget New Teen Titans #16! Captain Carrot to the rescue!
  20. Now it's been over two months. Recap: Quadman78 received Kraven on 6/5/15. LINK On 7/16/15 he posted this. LINK So Quadman has had Kraven since 6/5, has run three sales threads since then... One Two Three ...but doesn't have time to send him to the next person? And THIS is the Boardie of the Year? What's the deal? Do we need a charity thread or a Hall of Shame nomination to get this moving again? Hey, does anyone know who nominates people for "Boardie of the Year"..........? Maybe that person ought to take a long, hard look at how these decisions are made...............? How many ellipses can I post at the end of this sentence..............?
  21. Someone told me this was the place to be....
