  1. Actually you are absolutely right. SC4 had slipped behind Marvel keys around a decade ago, still the highest DC, but it had slipped until a strong rumour of the Flash movie became more than a rumour when a director and -script writer got attached to the project. That however was LONG ago, and the book started to jump with many Marvel centred fans getting on board. A review of the now old SC4 thread here shows it. The book climbed massively over several years, even though directors changed but when Famuyiwa left due to "creative differences" in 2016 the book had peaked and then slowly slid back. A 4.5 went from @$26K to $17K. It sat like that for a around a year or two then bounced when the Covid super Key surge hit us and has now levelled back at around @$25K. For the movie I started to get very worried when I heard that Famuyiwa (think second director) was screen testing for not only Captain Cold but "Harrison Wells". At that point I was "Oh great he has never read a book and is turning series 1# of the TV show, into a movie". Luckily he was fired. The synopsis of his -script is online somewhere. Would have been modest budget, and would have had a box office probably less than "Birds of Prey". But unlike so many of their DC properties, someone there did not want to do Flash half/a@#ed, and when DC asked Muschietti if he wanted to do a super hero movie which one did he want, he said Flash. Christina Hodson who wrote Bumblebee, and the less successful "Birds of Prey" (was not her fault to do the casting and character design (Brunette Black Canary, Harley in Pink and Yellow - )) Apart from Flash 123 the other books that have strengthened are the other three Showcases, 8,13,14 which have been solid under $2K and now in High grade. The 13 + 14 could have a 6.0 around $1k or below a little while ago and the 8 could, have a 3. for maybe less than $1k a few years ago. 105 however also boomed back on the early movie buzz and is actually quite common, and has not done too much. Will be interesting if after the movie hits a few more high grade books change hands. Damm I spend way too much time on this stuff ..
  2. Recently back from the Andy Warhol museum. I am a huge fan of Lou Reed and had for many years been trying to reconcile him with his time with Warhol. Warhol was a superb self promoter. Musk and many others have taken lessons from him. The Lichtenstein pop " art " I have only just looked into. Quite stunning that " his" sold for many thousands of dollars while the originals back then would have traded for less than a $50. Again all about, being the " must have / in thing" and self promotion. Does Lichtenstein stuff sell today for many multiples of what it sold for back then. If it had moved with inflation it would be hitting around $1.5 to $2.0M. And in my opinion it has to be copyright breach.
  3. Yep back from lunch and loaded in less than 2 seconds .. wait .. everything has been sold .. Hell I was going to go for that Kirby piece. I can now tell the story of "but I couldn't bid for it as I was locked out" better than a fish story ..the one that got away
  4. and trying one more time, ... and waiting, ... and waiting, ... and waiting .. I know that a lot of "BIG" pieces are going today, and it may just be the "other side of the world " thing, but I can't be the only one .. and still waiting, and still waiting, maybe go to lunch and see if it loads by then
  5. Finally got in .. but that was the first time "a really long wait .. became eternal".
  6. I have always found it slow to open ( from various locations and various devices and internet providers) ..and to do searches but this morning a few hours ago it would not open a search and been waiting a few minutes now. Hard to bid when it will not open. Just changed to search and still having the problem. Well hope it is better later this morning (I am in Australia), or someone else may be getting a deal.
  7. I know none of us Flash collectors closely follow the comic market (otherwise we would be Marvel collectors instead -) but I know that the hottest Flash book during that boom was SC4, which in mid grade has come off maybe 25% of its absolute dizzy peak. Other major Flash keys did not go up much and the ones that did have partially come back down. 110 being the most noticeable. I wondered if the Flash movie would give anything a boost. I thought it would be the more affordable 105, but it appears that the book bouncing from the movie is 123. Been a steady climber over the years but an 8.5 has just hit under $10K ($9,899). Anything over 7.0 in this book is rare, so 8.5 comes along very infrequently. Other copies apparently are still slowly but surely chugging up the hill and I am guessing a nice 4.0 will hit over $1K soon, maybe by the movie release time. To all Flash fans who have a copy, maybe give it a little hug.
  8. Yes, known in Australia, thanks to Annabel Kirby, but not sure by how many, and if anyone has been. Most art collectors here I know of are commission and or / Modern Marvel based. Was on my list of things to do, until the latest big stock market drop, dropped that dream as well.
  9. I considered Metamorpho as he was one of the few DC titles that came to Australia in the 1960s. As a kid born in 1954 I thought he was okay and when Sparling came on board with the female Metamorpho I was looking forward to it but it got canned then. Dial H for Hero, was always interesting as a curiosity thing. I'm still voting for Ant Man (not Giant Man who I loved,) but a guy who just shrank to a few inches high, no smaller no larger and rode ants ?? Did not sell well, and that is why he was soon joined by Wasp, and even that did not work so he was literally bumped up to Giant Man. TTA 59 was one of my favourite Marvel books as a kid, always thought it should rate higher on collectors radar.
  10. There are so many where do I start. Thinking Ant Man and Aquaman, who though lame in Gardners JLA had Mera and some pretty neat villains in his own book. Poor old Ant Man had .. was it Egghead, so Ant Man heads him off, but if open to team leaders I will say Rip Hunter is my top pick.
  11. Hmmm but as he predates Black Panther by at least three years, wouldn't by that logic make Black panther a copy - and let's not start with Professor X..
  12. I will post the 140 when next in office, (and all the other 140s) and the 112 was very expensive back when in my late 20s with a mortgage, or so thought. Will see if I can find the dealers grade as well.
  13. Just picked up a book that was on my want list for over 30 yrs. Flash 140, it is a 7.5 but fits my needs. I tried with dealers for a long time in late 80s + 90s and got all the other Rogues books upgraded well, but this one eluded me, and after the internet, well I kept putting it off. At this time I had acquired by various means 4 copes all graded 4.0 -5.0 and for a total cost of $17. As I laid in bed that night I thought, all done now and went over all "my key" books, all in grades I am happy with .. and then thought about my 112 bought nearly 40 years ago, a 3.5, and thought nahh, mid grade copies are not worth it, be happy with what you have got ...and then thought how I loved Sue Dibny as a kid .. Oh well.
  14. That is one of my three favourite Flash comics. The Barry / Iris thing became a big part of the attraction for me (Born 1954) and the reactions of Iris in this issue are a very strong part of what is canon for her. Also how when things are really going pair shape Barry is calm with her and very understanding. Great role model for a kid growing up
  15. Almost 20 years alter Boomer was still building giant space seeking boomerangs. A hard villain not to love.
  16. That is so hard to get in that grade. Can I ask how much, as these seldom make it to GPA (we don't normally talk money - but the AF15 thread is nothing but price comparison)
  17. Yep some books are down some down a lot but this keeps on being strong. The movie is now more of a bad memory now. That movie killed it for a while.
  18. but Wall St is like comics. We are up over 18% in last two weeks, not down and we should go further. Banks, down, means fewer rate increases mean our stocks have kicked off again. In 20-21 SA Marvel super keys went nuts. In 2021 most comic art except key Ditko and Kirby had modest gains. Money was in marvel super keys. Last 18 months though that reversed. Comic art everywhere has gone nuts. SA Marvel super keys down. Limited money out there always moving.
  19. A 1.5 was over $39K . So they are also dropping. It is basically a Marvel super Key thing. AF15, X-Men 1 maybe Hulk 1# although I have not checked. FF 1# also down but nowhere near as much, but then again never jumped that much either. So yeah the talk of X-Men 1# being SA number 2 book and AF15 closing on Tec 27 may have been premature.
  20. Anything over 230 is pretty slow except first Golden Glider (is that 250) and 275-276 death reverse flash. The Infantino issues 296-350 are still selling, especially 323-324. Any Reverse Flash cover from 200 -250 also sells, and the Neal Adams GL issues are good sellers, but generally 240 -296 are very slow. As a note I was collecting a group of readers for 296-350, I had most but was maybe 8 shy (all of 345-349 plus a few I needed to upgrade) and when I went to Emerald City Con in 2018 had no problems completing my list at around $5 per issue. The next year 20196 I was looking them over and they had basically disappeared. One good dealer commented that a lot of common stuff was drying up.
  21. Very nice and thanks for sharing. Yeah any SA Flash at 9.2 is very rare.
  22. I agree with others. Looks at least a 7.0 in the 7.0 -7.5 range to me. Nice book and honest LCS owner.
  23. Think this is 80's. It was simple really. What they did was start with a stat (a copy) of the original from that 80 page giant. Used it to anchor that piece and then took stats from many other villains although I think some on the fringe and sneaking in the back are draw. (I will try and ask around and find out where) . As no other group of villains ever did a "team portrait", it made sense to start with that and work around it. Must burn the Batman fanboys. And of course old Eobard (and Carmine) front and centre where he belongs.
