  1. It’s a good mix of both. One was graded around December 2022.  Three of the others are all file copies in the earlier slabs from around 2010 era. I will call today and see if they can assist. I had never had that happen and just checking to see if anyone else was experiencing it.  Thank you both for you feedback.

@Miamiknight3434 Super cool of you, I can't tell you how much I would appreciate it. Are you sure? I know these books don't come up often :)

@gunsmokin assuming @Miamiknight3434is 100% sure he is cool with letting me take the book, I will take it! :takeit:
I'm super excited to complete this run! It fits in condition wise with most of the other books as well.

PS: This is the 2nd message I typed, not sure what is going on with the boards but the 1st message never appeared lol

G.I. Battle 5 , the injured nurse cover, is one of my favorites and a tough book to find in good condition. Beautiful set my friend !

Love it! I have been kinda sorta looking for one of these for a while now. A local shop had one, but the box was a repro, so i didn't pull the trigger. This one looks so nice! That is a real collection centerpiece right there, beautiful toy.

Thank you my friend for the kind words. There’s just something soulful about buying something that made us happy when we were young. I was over the moon when I landed this one. The box edges have some rubs but overall it’s a solid box. Now it’s time to hunt down a nice Mazinga in the box !

How clear is the photo of the book?

It’s not very clear at all. You can see the book and some alignments but it’s not good enough to where you can pick up on small details. You can tell the signature on the cert is live ink but I only wonder if that’s enough for actual pedigree proof. I imagine that if it’s real they would have seen multiple copies of the same certifications in the past and they can use that to determine if it’s real. I plan on sending it in next week and I will absolutely update everyone on the outcome.

You can try but my thinking is no. It's a ped with no markings. An LOA stating got it from Marnin prob wont do it.  If you had an invoice from Marnin that ties to an ad Marnin ran listing the Mass book then that could be different.

But definitely write the submit up as the ped and include the paper, might as well try, and they will send it back.

Your thinking like me. I would think you would need more supporting evidence. The actual book is photographed on the cert but i don’t know if that will stand good either ? Photo proof is usually the most definitive but it might not be enough. We’re talking about a company that won’t certify a signature unless it’s actually witnessed, which is a good thing. I will definitely follow this up with an update so we will all know in the future.

I don’t think they’ll return the cert, but that’s the documentation you should send in with the book.

Signed by a boardie to boot!

I was really hoping that they would return the cert but if the cert will stand good and they will actually give me a pedigree label on it , I won’t complain about that at all.

  7. A different case but possible similar scenario. I have a 1986 fleer Jordan Rookie that I pulled out of the pack myself. I sent that card to Beckett and they sent it back ungraded. They claimed the card had been “trimmed”. I knew that was completely wrong. I pulled that card out of the pack myself in 1986. I then opened a PSA account sent the card into PSA and it came back graded a PSA7. If I wouldn’t have pulled that card out of a pack myself or if I would have bought that from an individual, I would have accepted Beckett’s evaluation and lost tons of money but I knew for a FACT that card was not trimmed. I would suggest doing that on this comic. Send it in to another grading company. If two different companies find color touch then you can at least sleep at night with those results.

One thing I can tell you is that since the note on the label is written in lowercase letters, the book wasn't meant to be Qualified (unless someone made an egregious error).

So to me, the blue label 4.0 should indicate that the book would have graded substantially higher if the staples were intact and they decided that a blue label 4.0 was better than a higher grade green label. The funny thing is, most of the time books with staple problems do end up Qualified...  hm

I agree with this 100 percent. This book looks like it would have graded somewhere in the 6.0 to 6.5 range if the staples were in tact. The thing that gets me is the notation indicates that the staples were removed , not just missing. To me this should indicate the book is not complete and probably should have received a qualified label no matter what the grade. CGC has historically put a deep emphasis on staples and their importance. This book getting a universal grade with the staples “removed” is a head scratcher for me.

The first collection I bought (when I was 12) was a late 50’s/early to late 60’s group of about 250 books that had been in a cedar chest with lots of mothballs for 20 years. Smell was/is fantastic. As to your question, a few have been graded by CGC with no deduction for smell. Here’s one of them.

I love the Munsters ! I bought that entire statue line that Tweeterhead came out with a few years ago.
