  1. thanx- been busy with "real" life lately but will be back with a look at #4 soon
  2. on to # 3, featuring the second Corben cover of the series (he did a total of three): Corben also did the lead story (my favourite in this issue) which features a very nice twist ending.. second story - art by Doug Wildey: third story has nice art by Bill Wray, a frequent contributor: last story in this issue - a classic love triangle story with art by Bret Blevins.. once again, Bruce Jones makes it clear where he's coming from
  3. Ahh.. Pacific Comics They really had some wonderful books didn't they.. Skateman notwithstanding
  4. Twisted Tales was mentioned here recently- please check out my recent postings in the infinite copper horror thread for a more thorough look at the series. short version: this series ruled
  5. well if you're gonna do a horror comic, you can't go wrong with a Wrightson cover ..of course, having a lead story by Mike Ploog doesn't hurt either! the second story has nice, funky artwork by Ken Steacy.. third story has beautiful artwork by Val Mayerik.. Nice story about witchcraft and monsters set in the deep south. here's the monster btw fourth story is perhaps my favourite of the lot - always loved Rand Holmes' artwork, not to mention his, um, women..
  6. well we've been through this series before, but i thought i'd do a twist (ahem) and provide some interior art, along with some personal comments.. i pretty much grew up with this series the way kids of the 50s grew up with EC.. hope the scans are ok, i'm still figuring out how to work my new scanner. what a classic cover. imagine seeing this cover on the stands in '82 (i was 6 at the time).. EC-ness is back! the first story, featuring beautiful art by Richard Corben.. i won't give away the ending for those who haven't read it, but the punchline is just incredible second story; perhaps the most EC-esque of them all.. Alcala is a perfect fit for the subject matter - something long dead yet hideously alive third story opens with the most classic of horror story set-ups.. bickering couple has car trouble, seeks help in nearby old house - horror ensues! fourth story, and IMO the best of the lot. absolutely creepy, with moody, atmospheric art by Tim Conrad. more later..
  7. pretty hard to get this in grade - i guess it's because the story is so good, people read it to death
  8. hi folks- great thread, thanks for all the info & scans! i'm an avid duck collector from norway, and my interests lies mainly in 70's and 80's norwegian books - so i have nothing that can come even remotely close to the fantastic books that have been posted here.. but just for fun, here are some nice, high-grade barks reprints from the late 70s/early 80s:
  9. All of the above courtesy of mr. Goldust.. Thanks! Also just for fun - here's how BA DC horror looked on the norwegian stands some 23 years ago.. Check the crazy logo font
  10. Hi folks - My first post in this thread.. Though i have actually read the whole thread (had to take a year off from work to do that.) Thanks for all the wonderful info & scans guys! Anyway I'm deeply into BA horror, both DC and Marvel's reprints.. Also I'm toying with a new scanner, so I thought I'd show you some highlights from my collection. Nothing uber-hi-grade, but nice (FN+ to VF-ish) copies nonetheless.. besides it's been a couple hundred pages since we last saw these hasn't it?
  11. Incidentally - In the LOC-page of John Carter #14 (july 1978), Catherine Yronwode (later to become editor-in-chief of Eclipse Comics) writes: "Rudy Nebres deserves all my praise for having the courage, daring and know-how to blot out Gil Kane's crazy nostrils completely with nice, clean, black ink (well, not Gil's nostrils, we wouldn't have anymore of Kane's vibrant action panels and that would be a shame.)"
  12. (P.S. Here's the list of DTM covers still missing from the database - If anyone wants to help out, you can upload images here - or just post the covers in this thread (If they haven't been posted already; I'll go through the thread again and check), and I'll take care of it. Some of the other Dennis series are also woefully incomplete, like Dennis and his friends, with only one cover online.. seems the GCD team are mostly Marvel/DC zombies ) 88 89 91 94 95 97 101 103-113 116 117 120 121 123-125 127-133 135 138-140 142-144 146 147 149-153 155 157-166
  13. Thanx Joe! one thing is to find another DTM fan.. another is to MAKE one! Here's the search results at comics.org for Dennis. Take a look and see if any series (other than Dennis & Ruff and Dennis & the bible kids) are missing. Dennis search @ comics.org Here's the cover gallery for Standard's DTM 1-14 (they've split the series by publisher): DTM 1-14 cover gallery @ comics.org
  14. i'm not a member of the GCD team (i just submit the odd scan), but i'll shoot them an e-mail. (i see dennis & ruff is also missing)
  15. btw- stating the obvious here - but those are some sweet books you have there!!
