Three options:
1. Read through the PCH threads on the Boards. where people have randomly posted their copies.
2. Systematically look through all the PCH issues on GCD (there are about 1500 of them). I have a copy of a list.
3. Create a thread on the Boards asking people to post their PCH rat covers. I don't think there are many beyond the ones listed.
There will be some great interior stories involving rats like in this issue.
I spent the whole day yesterday doing that , found about 6 issues of PCH . Also found 3 issues of Airboy with rats on cover .

Took a chance on a raw VG+ copy earlier today , paid $72 . We’ll see when it gets here . Seller accepts returns but i hope i don’t have to do that . From the pictures the grade seemed accurate.

2.0-$37, 4.0-$74, 6.0-$111, 8.0-$222, 9.0-$361, 9.2-$500
MyComicShop.com has a 4.5 for $320, so I guess this is an overguide book...
Thanks , i saw the one on mycomicshop , weird price , also saw one on ebay VG for $200 . Finally took a better look at ebay sold listings and a VG+ sold for $133. Guess the book is on the rise .

Anyone with the latest Guide nearby can let me know what the prices are for a Chamber of Chills #16 ? I'm at work right now and can't find any info online , go collect an ebay sold are dead ends .

This thread is all kinds of awesome

My interest in the photo journal is because as you said im just getting into the golden age . Besides DC superheroes and EC horror i have no idea what is out there . Already because of this thread i started looking at a lot more titles. It’s like a whole new world has opened up from obscure superheroes to great sci fi covers .

I am kind of thinking the same thing. The market seems to have caught up to "conservation" not being a deal-killer, so perhaps minor color touch is next.
I'm also starting to look at restored books. I've seen some pretty good deals on books with minor color touch , as long as the restauration is minimal I don't mind . I buy them for me not for profit .

And if you are a fan of the Flash, Green lantern, or Wonder Woman, you can go after the no-demand Comic Cavalcade run.
Never could figure out why collectors never took a fancy to these titles, especially the early ones which were the huge 100-pager ones with the beautiful cardboard covers.
Thanks i'll take a look at them as well , are the stories as goofy as the covers ?
On another note , in April I will receive a tax return of about $1500 , I was thinking about buying a bigger and nicer book . Right now i'm thinking of a Showcase 22 in2.0 - 2.5. I haven't looked at any GA books as I'm not so familiar with them . What cool GA books could I get ? Perhaps some mid grade EC ? or Planet Comics ? Low grade Batman 2-9 ?

As i said im not hunting for keys , all i want are cool covers and stories . I guess i should invest in a copy of The Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books , some great covers posted here i had no idea existed .
Also thank you all for all the advice , the Golden Age comunity here rocks .

Speaking as primarily a collector of DC golden age, which you said you're interested in, non-Batman/ Detective books have been lagging the overall comic market and are definitely still relatively affordable.
i'll try branching out to those as well

if you could only go one con , which one would you go to ?

It just depends on the con you go to. There are some very comic-centric conventions these days, that are way more fun (to me) than going to the giant celebrity cons.
i'll have to do some research on which ones are worth attending then . Thanks

Teach yourself to grade and detect restoration. Buying raw is much more affordable and entertaining than certified.
But in fairness, if you have a limited budget going after the most popular character isn't going to be your best strategy.
Don't get me wrong , i'm not expecting to pay peanuts for comics that are worth it . I was simply ranting about how from my perspective as non US buyer that can only buy online . My point is it seems sellers seem to think that because it's golden age it's automatically valuable .
I've been looking at Baffling Mysteries , most books on ebay seem to go 4-5 x guide prices .
-
From what I read on these boards even the large conventions have less and less comic vendors .Europe shows have mainly Bronze Age and up with some Silver , rarely some Golden Age mainly key issues and EC's
-
I have only recently started getting into Golden Age books , don't have a really big disposable income to spend on them and after reading several threads on the Golden age board it seems I am a bit late to the party .
Couple years you could get a nice mid grade copy for a couple of hundred $ , now I can only get 1.0 - 2.0 . PCH horror has shot way up , DC superheroes as well (this is what I am mainly interested right now ).
Mind you my observations are based on online sales as I am not a US resident , Golden Age in Europe is almost non existent .
So am I late ? I enjoy the stories and covers , being from an ex communist country gives me a glimpse to a different world and time , but sometimes it's really hard to justify prices of $200-$300 on a 0.5 Batman 36 for example .

Hey guys , anyone know how many pages Bafflling Mysteries 10 should have ?
-
Which ones would fit best Golden Age slabs ?
thanks
-
I recently bought 2 graded Golden Age comics . Each slab came in a bag , now the bags were dirty so i hoped on to Ebay where i searched for graded cgc bags . I bought a 10 pack and after they arrived tried to put my slabs in the bags , unfortunatelly they do not fit . I tried them on regular GCG slabs as well as slabs from another company , the only slabs that fit them are the old ones from GCG .
So what bags should i buy ?
thanks

Hey guys , i was wondering are there any modern comics being put out ? Kinda like the EC horrors .I'm only familiar with the bigger publishers .

A few others i found besides what was already posted . The first 2 seem to be more scarce than the EC .
