Lot 50: FRITZ LEIBER SPECIAL How many of you have read Leiber’s Fafhrd and Gray Mouser books? He started writing their sword and sorcery adventures in 1939 and continued for nearly 50 years. While they weren’t quite antiheroes, they were more morally neutral than most protagonists in their day, hiring their swords out (almost) indiscriminately, stealing when they needed to (or felt like it) and drinking, gambling and whoring it up according to their appetites. Needless to say, they were toned down a bit for DC. Presented here is their first comic book appearance (in Wonder Woman!?!) and the full five issue run of their own book. Wonder Woman 202 (F+) Sword of Sorcery 1 (VF), 2 (VF), 3 (VF), 4 (VF), 5 (F) Read all of em for $30

Lot 48: WHO KNOWS WHAT EVIL LURKS IN THE HEARTS OF MEN SOLD Who could dust off one of the greatest pulp heroes of yesteryear and not make it suck? Enter Denny O’Neil and Michael Kaluta. Overlooked and underrated series (undermined by an appearance in a lame story in Batman 253 around the same time). I love this book, hope you do too. Here’s a nice run of the full series. Take em all for $60. Shadow 1 (F+), 2 (F), 3 (VG), 4 (VF), 5 (VF), 6 (NM 9.4), 7 (FVF), 8 (F+), 9 (VF), 10 (VF), 11 (F+; someone tried to erase a grease pencil mark on the cover), 12 (VG+)

Lot 47: HUMAN FLY Another of Marvel’s series based on an outside property. The circumstances surrounding this one are far weirder than any toy or movie tie-in series they ever did. Seriously. If you want a glimpse into the weirdos, entrepreneurs and con men who came up with this whole scheme, read the great Esquire article about it here: https://www.esquire.com/uk/culture/news/a5684/the-human-fly/ It all started when Evel Knievel went to prison, leaving an opportunity for anyone willing to fulfill audiences’ desire to see grown men in weird costumes risk their lives jumping over stuff. The “owners” of the Fly property leveraged every deal they could get their fingers into, including convincing Marvel that a comic based on their guy was a great idea. Eventually, the Fly began blending elements dreamed up by the comic book writers into his accounts of his real life. Great stuff. Human Fly 1 (F+), 2 (FVF Ghost Rider), 3 (VG), 4 (F), 5 (F+), 6 (F), 7 (F), 8 (F), 9 (GVG Daredevil), 10 (F), 11 (F+), 12 (F), 13 (VF), 14 (F+), 15 (FVF), 16 (NM-), 17 (F), 18 (F), 19 (F+) Enjoy the entire 19 issue run for $40

Lot 46: 2nd APPEARANCES First appearance prices got you down? Second appearances are the new black! This lot features the second appearance of popular Bronze characters. Marvel Premiere 2 (F) Ok, so technically FF 67 is the 2nd appearance of Him, though others hold that Thor 166 lays a better claim. But no one can argue that this is the 2nd appearance of Adam Warlock, Roy Thomas’ ode to Jesus Christ Superstar. Marvel Spotlight 3 (VF) Werewolf By Night, soon to star in his own book. Marvel Premiere 16 (F; MVS intact; MARK JEWELERS VARIANT) Danny Rand on his way up. Amazing Spider-Man 102 (VGF) Morbius! ‘Nuff said. Some weird ink splotching which appears to have occurred on press, Flat, square, beautiful interior. Take the whole lot for $75. Also, purchaser of this lot ineligible for the next Kramer because:
