The Official Groo Appreciation Thread!
wolvergeek replied to mrwoogieman's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
Here is a pic. There are only maybe 5 to 10 in existence. 5 that we know of where they are. Most were destroyed in the '88 earthquake. -

He was excited because the mic sells for $300 if original. One of the hardest to find GI Joe accessories and there are a lot of knockoffs out there. -

That microphone is a repro so not sure why you are so excited about it. Nice stuff still! -
All true. I tend to think along the lines of....If I made $5 million dollars a year and collected comics, it wouldn't be that hard to drop $350k on these 3 quality books. You aren't investing in them but want the top of the line whether it be a car, boat or slabbed Mcfarlane Spidey's. Of course you would also be going after original McFarlane covers.

unpressed. Slabs today look so fake with pancaked books.

It's a good plan. If someone rich enough wants the best, they can grab it in one purchase albeit at a premium.

Great pages Buzzetta! Love that Zartan transformation page. I just picked up the convention morphing set figures this week! I put a watch bid of $1800 on the page but wasn't really a player on it as I already have a couple pages from issue #22. I was shocked to see that final price! Vosburg's art is my least favorite from the early run as I think some of the heads are drawn weird like Roadblock's. I had heard that he hated the art himself for his run on GI Joe. Also the cover final price! I'm not a fan of the issues in the 100's but do like Trimpe. Still $19k is Zeck cover territory, or it used to be. Glad I got my cover to #25 last year!

You were all close but it is actually a CGC 9.6 with white pages. That spine fleck will keep it from a 9.8 even with a press. It really has no flaws except the 2 I pointed out. Press can help the back edge but not the color breaking fleck on the spine. imo.
-
It's a lot nicer than that.
-
These are the 2 issues with the book. Front color breaking spine fleck and some back cover top edge wear.

This is an old label Hulk 181 I bought back in 2003. Wanted to see if you guys could guess the grade and whether you think it could be pressed one grade higher. These are scanned images so I tried to make them show any issues.

That was me that won the #25 cover. It’s the first appearance of Zartan! It has Cobra Commander, The Dragonfly and The Water Moccasin. It’s also Zeck’s 2nd GI Joe cover. It checked all the boxes for me. I have been trying to find a nice Zeck Marvel Joe cover for years! There may be nicer covers made but they are never for sale. Especially Zeck covers. Hell I like #24 better but the owner will never part with it. Chuck Costas also has many Zeck covers but won’t sell any of the real good ones.

I have scanned in 12 published pages and 2 sketches from the collection to CAF. I am going to scan in a bunch more tonight and this weekend. https://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryRoom.asp?GSub=196403&Order=Title If it says NFS then I am not selling it unless it is a really, really good offer. I will eventually be pricing out the others but will consider any offers until then. Just send me a PM. If you really want a page this is the way to go to get it before I start posting prices. Thanks Paul (Wolvergeek)

The GI Joe art collection has arrived! I'm going to need this weekend to go through what I want to keep and what I will sell. Here is a sample pic:

I have 15 G.I. Joe Marvel pages posted on CAF. I just purchased 105 pages from a private collection with pages from issues #1 to #155 as well as GI Joe & Transformers and GI Joe Special Missions. I will be selling any pages I don't keep in my personal collection. Let me know if you are interested. I am hoping to have them all scanned into CAF by the end of the month. Here is my CAF link. https://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=26236
